5. Premonition

1273 Words
~Lydia~ Rex was already gone, but I still couldn't bring myself to calm down. I'm feeling anxious because Rex left in an angry mood. He's not willing to accept that I no longer need him in my life. I thought it would be easy to convince him to do the right thing before his twin brother found out about his relationship with Lauren. But it turns out he will make my life a living hell if I break up with him. Sigh. What would I do if he sent everyone our nudes? Lauren's family and Andre's family will hate me and shun me. My reputation will be ruined. I will be the cause of Andre's shame and endless sorrow. He is a good man, he doesn't deserve the backlash from his wife's shameful act. Then how about me? How am I going to protect myself from Rex's dubious blackmail? I fell into deep thoughts as I was pondering the consequences of Lauren's action. If Rex is obsessed with my cousin, the only way to cut his dark obsession is to confess to him that the one he loved is already dead. If he knows the truth that I'm Lydia the nanny reborn in Lauren's body, he might stop wrecking me. He will stop harassing me because his lover is already gone, and I am now a different person. If nothing else works, then telling the truth should work. The truth shall set me free! That's right. No other way but to reveal the truth. I'm feeling better after arriving at a sound decision regarding how to deal with Rex's obsession. I glanced at the door and Andre came in. He smiled at me lovingly. "Sweetheart, I got Archie's video. Let's watch it together," he said, sitting on the chair beside the bed and playing the video for me to see. Archie was lying in the hospital bed with bandages wrapped around his feet and hands. He was smiling at the camera, waving his hands. Tears sprang from my eyes. I'm happy to see that he was not injured badly by the earthquake. "I'm glad he's okay. You have no idea how scared I am for him. I did my best to save him. I wish I did better." I broke into tears. Andre squeezed my hands gently to comfort me. "The rescue team found you unconscious near the elevator. Lydia was found in the hotel suite on top of our son. She protected our son with her life. She died in order for our son to live. She willingly sacrificed her life for our son. I feel guilty about it," he said sadly. Tears fell from my eyes. "Lydia loves Archie so much, she would do anything for him, even if she had to die for it." I murmured, remembering those final moments I knew I would die. What is important for me is for my precious Archie to survive. And I succeed with my honorable intention, but I also end up dead. Good thing I was reborn into my cousin's body so I can still continue taking care of Archie and my family. Now that I can no longer go back to my old life. I can only continue living my life in the body of my cousin. Being reborn into her body has its disadvantages and advantages. As of now, I already knew the disadvantage and that is Rex. He will be the death of me. "Sweetheart, why are you silent all of a sudden? What's wrong?" he asked. "Is there something bothering you? Are you okay?" I looked at him and smiled. "I'm fine. I just remember the earthquake tragedy. Um, so, how is it? What did Lydia's family tell you? Did they agree to my request?" I asked curiously. "Yes. They will do it for you. Lydia's funeral wake will be extended as long as we shoulder all the expenses. Initially, they settled for cremation because it was cheaper and faster, but after hearing my proposal, they finally agreed to our request," he explained. "Good. I'm happy to hear that," I said in relief and met his gaze, not sure if he would agree to what I'm going to tell him next. "Um...I plan to give $1 million to Lydia's family as a token of my appreciation for her heroic bravery in saving our son. Is that okay with you?" "No problem." He nodded his head in agreement. "I will match your donation to Lydia's family. I will also give her family $1 million." "OK." I smiled brightly. A big donation could surely go a long way in helping my cash-strapped family. This is the advantage I'm talking about. With Lauren's money, I can help my family the best I can. The more I think about it, the more I like to keep my secret because Lauren's money is tempting me to keep living the lie. But I'm not closing my door yet on coming out clean for the twin brothers. If something comes up, I will rethink my life priorities. But as of now, my family will greatly benefit from my being reborn in my cousin's body. "How about my doctor's decision? When are they going to send me home?" I asked, excited to be back in the mansion again. This time I'm now the wife and no longer the nanny. What an impressive upgrade to my ordinary life. "The doctor approved of you going home in two days," he replied. "OK. That's good to hear. It's boring here. I miss home," I said thoughtfully. "You will be home soon." He smiled at me and put the cover around me and stood up. "Sweetheart, I need to go back to Archie's room. I can't leave him alone for too long. He will go ballistic on the nurses. See you later." He kissed my head affectionately. I nodded my head. "OK. Give Archie my love." "I will." Andre left the room. After he was out of the room, I released a deep sigh. I never expected that my old life had to end, so my new life could begin. Despite being sad about my death, I welcome the change. I can correct my cousin's mistake and be closer to Andre and stay by Archie's side as long as I can. A double win for me. Now I'm getting greedier and opportunistic. Should I feel guilty? But what can I do? It's not that I ask for this. I never did! Yeah, although in the past, I wish Sir Andre could love me and I could be his wife. I'm not serious about it. It's just silly thinking on my part. I never knew it was even possible to be reborn in another people's body. These are all surreal to me. But wait a minute, are my forbidden fantasies the reason why my cousin Lauren met her sudden demise? Did I bring bad luck upon us? OMG! I hope I'm not the reason why those people in the resort also died because of my wishes. I hope I won't pay a huge price for all of this. Suddenly, I felt a chill all over my body, a feeling that somehow things will not be smooth sailing for me in the long run. And the thing I'm truly scared about is whether I will continue to live my cousin's life... What if Lauren was reborn in another person's body, and she came back to expose the truth about me and take back everything from me? The scary thoughts sent a shudder down my spine. What do I do if that happens?
