Regrets happen when it's too late
“***!!”
Elladienne Victoria Feuillet got up from her bed, covered in cold sweat and full of tears, startled when she screamed an unfamiliar name only to be forgotten the next second.“ What was his name again? This rotten brain of mine really works well at forgetting”, Ella sighed in frustration and went back to bed, only to find herself wandering her eyes around this fancy, humongous room.
The walls were olive green with a golden finish on the edges and corners. It also had golden flowers and leaves that looked like they were hand painted, everything looked so elegant that it made it hard for Ella to step outside the room. The sunshine slowly seeped through the windows that went along with the morning breeze. Somehow Ella couldn't hide her excitement as she knew that she had transmigrated into a novel. “In situations like these, I should have figured out where I am” Ella suddenly questioned her whole existence and realized she had no clue where fate had put her. “ It would’ve been easier if I wasn't reading so many novels in the first place! Honestly, I don’t even remember my name, let alone the main character’s” even though Ella still couldn’t figure out what kind of world she was living in the circumstances she was given, gave her a hint that she could possibly be the female lead. She quickly sprinted out of her bed and sat on her vanity. Appreciating the beauty of Elladienne Victoria Feuillet.
“I never knew white hair could look this pretty before. In my world, I was called an old lady for having white strands of hair. Even though it was a phase, IT WAS HIGHLIGHTS IGNORANT PEOPLE! It wasn’t even white, those blind people!” She quickly calmed her emotions and continued to brush Elladienne’s gorgeous hair.
Elladienne’s long wavy hair was as white as snow, her rose pink lips, her innocent features and blue doe eyes made her look weak and fragile. She remembered waking up with some memories of Elladienne in an unfamiliar room full of unfamiliar people, but somehow it felt like she had already grown up in this world and lived with those people. Turns out Elladienne suddenly got ill and passed out. It had been a week since her body woke up only to be possessed by another soul. The soul oddly accepted her new life and identified herself as the real Elladienne, but there was something that never seemed quite right. The soul seemed to forget their name and some features of their body. In guilt, the soul only took Elladienne’s nickname “Ella” and never really took Elladienne’s family as her own. Ella looked at the clock and realized it was already time for a bath. She immediately opened the doors and found the maids — who were about to knock — surprised by the sudden welcome.
“I look like a ghost, right? Haha!” Ella playfully chuckled at the maids as they sighed and also went along
“You’re the most beautiful ghost I’ve ever seen, my Lady,” Elladienne’s personal maid, Agnes, responded.
“You never fail to make me flustered Agnes”, The maid shrugged and looked proud of Ella’s response.
“Your Highness, let’s get you ready for the day”
After a relaxing morning bath, Ella quickly went to the breakfast room and sat down waiting for her father and brothers.
“AGHH!” Ella froze as her younger brother sneaked up on her
“George! Where are your manners?” Aiden angrily scolded George. Aiden Feuillet, the oldest of the Feuillet siblings, was one of the top scholars in alchemy and has been the topic of young girls.
“Sorry brother, I was just having fun”, George said in regret. George Feuillet is the youngest in the family and has been a menace when playing, but he’s skilled at swordsmanship at his young age.
“Scaring your older sister like that isn’t funn– “
“BUT IT IS!” a loud voice came from behind Aiden.
“!!!” Aiden silently screamed as their father also sneaked behind Aiden. Their father, Duke Alexander Zainne Feuillet, was the most brutal defender of justice and land: he was one of the renowned lawyers in the eyes of nobles and was also one of the most dangerous people in battle, who also helped the male leader excel in his swordsmanship.
“I guess it runs in the blood, older brother” All of them laughed, except Aiden who kept a serious face.
“By now you should have finished your breakfast, your Majesty” an eerie voice came from behind all of them. Their father awkwardly laughed at his assistant, Nicholas, who looked like he could pass out at any moment. A mischievous grin on Ella appeared.
“Father! How could you make Nicholas lose sleep like that? Don’t be too rough on him” Ella said to tease them, but she could sense something was amiss, when both Elladienne’s father and his assistant looked a bit odd.
“Elladienne Sweetheart, whose side are you on right now? If you put it that way, you make me look like a bad gu-”
“Your Grace, I’m afraid your papers are stacking up as you converse more with Lady Elladienne”
Normally, it is a grave sin to cut off a noble if you're of low rank, but Nicholas could do it without such effort, and it gave all of them a shock, but he just feigned ignorance, since Elladienne’s father was more of a troublemaker than any of his children.
Ehem* “You're right, let’s go. Have a wonderful breakfast my adorable children”. Elladienne’s father waved as he followed his assistant but got serious when Nicholas looked back at him. Ella chuckled a bit and went back to eating with her brothers.
“Oh. Sister, did you go to the boutique for the event this coming fall?”
“Is George telling the truth, Brother?”
“It is in fact the truth. That’s odd, haven’t you heard this already from your social circle, Elladienne?”
“OH! Haha, I must’ve forgotten about it with all the stuff that happened last week”
“That’s understandable.”
Elladienne’s brothers went back to eating. Though Ella was relieved that all the people around her hadn't noticed that she had possessed Elladienne’s body, Ella could not help but feel a bit saddened about it. After eating, Ella quickly went back to her room and found the letter of invitation.
“There are three days left until the event, do I even have clothes to wear?” Ella checked the closet and was left amazed by how big it was. She found a mannequin with a dress so wonderful that she knew it had to be for the fall. The event was fall themed, so the dress had light colors of red, yellow and orange with gold prints of leaves. The event was to be held until midnight, so it had this coat for the cold breeze, the dress also had a few petticoats to not look so puffy and the silk looked like it would be amazing to twirl with when dancing.
“I think I’m missing something here” Ella pondered for a minute. “DANCING! I totally forgot about that.” Ella was agitated, thinking that this world is where dancing waltzes and such are a normal thing, she doesn’t even know what etiquette and manners this world has. “As the saying goes by someone I don’t know, let’s leave our worries for tomorrow”
Little did Ella know, she was now riding their carriage heading towards Gardenia Palace for the fall event. Ella sat down in silence as she continued to think about horrible things that might end up happening while her brothers were arguing about how late they were, since everyone was busy finding George just because he didn’t want to participate. Ella bit her nails in agony and thought about how she also wanted to run away from home, hide and be unsociable for a long period of time, but it looked like that is far from happening. For her peace of mind she constantly murmured “The main character’s always late,”
“Sister, are you wishing us bad luck?” Aiden said.
“Let’s not talk right now” Ella said in a very calm yet cold voice while spacing out and not moving an inch. It made her brothers stop fighting until they had finally reached Gardenia Palace. It was a very large palace and was full of warm colored decorations, and it felt like the morning fall was still inside the palace even though it was nighttime.
Embarrassed by the fact that Ella was late, she still held her chin high and grinned as she felt that everyone was mesmerized by the beauty of the Feuillet Siblings. Ella immediately knew that the two guys surrounded by a lot of people were one of the main characters. She thought of the classics that female leads do to let the main characters notice her by being different from other girls and that means not going over there to them.
“Let's meet their eyes first, then go to the corner where there’s food, then they'll follow me there. Heh what a brilliant plan. I’m very intelligent myself, indeed. MWHEHEHEHEHEHE” Ella chuckled and went silent as she suddenly realized that people were staring at her. She then went to the food acting nothing happened.
It was hard for her to eat heavy meals because of the corset, but it did not stop her, and she ate the very light yet delicious snacks. Not a minute later, a man with a royal crest on his shoulder came up to her. It was no doubt the heir of the emperor. He had golden hair and red eyes that make you feel threatened and entrapped to never look away, yet his smile was the opposite and made him look soft-hearted.
“It’s odd for you to ignore me, my Lady” The man suddenly took Ella's hand and kissed it gently. Ella guessed it right, he was one of the male leads, and thought about how to find out his name. Suddenly a slight headache came and, oddly, she knew his name was “ Prince Elio Bonneville”. The one and only heir of the Bonneville Empire. Ella knew he was the second male lead because the male lead always introduces himself after the second male lead. The headache made Ella want to puke out all the food she’d been eating.
“My Lady, are you all right? You look a bit pale” as Elio reached his hand to caress Ella’s face, when a hand suddenly grabbed Elio from preventing him from touching Ella.
“Don’t touch her”, another handsome man exclaimed and suddenly went up to Ella. “You should be careful and not let anyone touch you so freely.”
The man had blue eyes and black hair, everyone, especially Ella, could feel the cold aura when she met his eyes, and it made her shiver in fear. Another headache came and Ella knew that he was the male lead, Caius Bonaparte, the duke of the North, the most brutal warrior and feared by everyone that even the Emperor himself felt threatened.
“Caius” Ella suddenly mumbled his name and thought maybe he was the one in her dreams that made her wake up in cold sweat and tears. Everyone became silent, yet all Elladienne thought was that she had now officially become the female lead.
Not until, A beautiful woman took all the attention when she entered with the most gorgeous and fashionable dress. Not long enough, gossips were beginning to fill the palace.
“For someone who was very late, the audacity of this woman to still dare to come here” a noble whispered
“A change of clothes and make-up still doesn’t hide that hideous personality of hers,” another noble responded.
Ella was curious as to why all the nobles despise her, “Quinn Layla Bechtel”, Prince Elio murmured, and it made Ella look at the male leads only to be stunned by their expressions. Both of them looked like time stopped as they looked at the woman. Ella’s headache became worse, and she felt like she was about to puke. She went out and even though she had bumped them, it didn’t even phase them.
As she went out the palace and vomited all she had eaten, her eyesight became blurry and she passed out.
“***!!”
Strange that Ella woke up in her room again after passing out and still woke up with the same thing that had happened every morning, but she couldn’t focus on that because this time it was different. She remembered the book she was reading the day she died and realized how doomed she is.
”Elladienne, what have you done!”
