Pearl Gem
I didn’t need anyone to tell me what to do at this point. His Majesty had already given his word last night. I would stick close to him.
As Drizzel walked off toward the left department, His Majesty made his way toward the central elevator, his guards flanking him like shadows. I noticed Beta Leif and the personal assistant drifting closer, whispering into earpieces and checking tablets. Riven, however, remained steady and alert, scanning every corner with practiced precision.
For a few seconds, I paused in my tracks, allowing the adrenaline to surge through my veins. This was a new phase of my life, and I couldn’t help but wonder what lay ahead.
That’s when the whispers started.
Soft chuckles behind me. Snide remarks laced with venom. They made no effort to conceal it.
“Yes, that’s the omega.”
“The one from five years ago?”
“So shameless. Is she back to get used again?”
“Maybe she’s here to lick His Majesty’s boots so he will release her convict brother.”
Convict. That’s what the world knew my innocent brother as now. I clenched my jaw and turned slowly, only to catch the gaze of a man standing on the second floor, right outside the department Drizzel had entered. Tall. Sharp suit. Piercing stare. I remembered him from the shareholders’ meeting. He stood out. Handsome, confident, and too observant.
“Pearl Gem?"
The sound of His Majesty’s voice sliced through the tension, drawing all attention back to him. I turned to find him walking toward me, a small frown on his face. His eyes followed my earlier gaze, and when he saw the man I had been looking at, his jaw set firmly.
“Come here,” He said softly, gesturing for me to walk with him.
I obeyed without a word, feeling the weight of his jealousy, unspoken yet palpable. We stepped onto the elevator, and the ascent was quiet. When we arrived on the executive floor, I paused, breath catching in my throat.
Ahead of me stretched a long, particular hallway led to a set of three distinguished rooms, separated by frosted glass and subtle gold trims. I knew, instinctively, that these belonged to the top of the hierarchy.
I walked toward the glass doors, which slid open automatically as I approached. The scent of fresh lavender hit me first, soft, calming, nostalgic.
The largest office was unmistakably the Alpha King’s.
The room was minimalist yet majestic. A grand walnut desk stood at the center, polished to perfection. Behind it, an ergonomic leather chair, and on the wall above, a regal portrait of the former Alpha King. Kade King’s father. I bowed respectfully before turning my gaze to the finer details. Custom-designed pen holders, a standing lamp in the corner, a jacket neatly hung on a wooden stand, and a chessboard frozen mid-game by the window. This wasn’t just an office. It was a domain.
To the left, separated by glass panels, was another well-furnished office. I recognized it instantly as the personal assistant’s space. A desk cluttered with coffee mugs and color-coded folders, a photo frame, and two computer monitors. A blend of work and controlled chaos.
And then, at the far right, was the smallest of the three. A cozy office space that felt like a private sanctuary. Thin blinds hung beside frosted glass. Inside sat a petite desk with two chairs facing each other. A sleek laptop. A drawer tucked discreetly beneath. A waste bin. And near the window stood a low cabinet with a single framed painting resting on the wall.
My heart fluttered as I recognized the art. The same one I’d seen in His Majesty’s private gallery last night. So this is what he meant when he said I’d get to see it almost every day.
I turned to him, eyes bright with emotion.
“It looks even more beautiful in the morning,” I whispered.
“You like it?” He asked.
“No,” I laughed softly. “I told you… I love it.”
He didn’t reply at once, just stared at me with that look again. The one he wore before every kiss. The one that silently said mine.
“You look beautiful,” He murmured, voice like velvet. “More beautiful each time I see you.”
I swallowed hard, my heart skipping.
“Same goes for you, Your Majesty. More grace. More handsome… each second I stare at you.”
Time slowed. We stood there as if the rest of the world didn’t exist, Hundreds of staff working just down the hall, the personal assistant nearby… none of it mattered.
Then, gently, His Majesty placed his palm on the small of my back and guided me into my new office.
He opened the glass door for me, and I stepped in, trailing my fingers across the surface of the desk. The leather chair welcomed me like a throne, and for a moment, I felt… home.
My eyes caught on the vase in the corner, where fresh lavender bloomed.
“You… You did this?” I asked in awe.
“I gave the order,” He replied, standing at the doorway.
“But… how did you know it’s my favorite?”
“You’d be surprised how much I know about your preferences, Pear Gem. You’d be stunned.”
He gave me one final look before turning away and walking toward his own office. I watched him shed his fur coat and hang it, then slip on his reading glasses and take a seat behind his desk.
The warm affection vanished from his face. It was time for business now.
Time to prove that an Omega could do more than sweep floors.
It was time to rewrite everything they thought they knew.
