Kade King One thing most people in the Wolf Empire fail to understand is that Omegas are the most blessed among all tribes. Despite their limitations, I have been to their Fortress. I have seen how they live as one big family, standing for one another, sharing meals and laughter under the moonlight. Royalties, on the other hand, are the most bitter. We possess immense wealth, yet we sleep with one eye open. No trust. No love. No peace. There’s one thing to be poor, and another to be smart. My Omega is both. And beyond that. she’s intelligent. Before I offered her the position of secretary, I had Riven conduct a discreet background check. When the results came in, I wasn’t just impressed, I was relieved. Happy, even. She attended Omega High School, went on to a college built in the Public Fortress, majored in academics, and even took a karate class. She graduated with flying colors. But that’s where her formal success ended. Since then, she’s worked menial jobs. Slave, housemaid, florist, cobbler. The report even says she can fix a broken car. That surprised me. And last night I kissed her. I touched her. I felt her soft, sacred body against mine. Those gentle curves… She felt like a holy altar, something I should approach with reverence, not lust. I wanted to explore her with patience and care. After I got home, I couldn’t sit still. Saying I knew what came over me would be a lie. I have nearly gotten in my car and drove to the Omega Fortress because she hadn’t texted back. Dark thoughts clouded my mind. What if she was with another man? That same one I’d seen in her house that night? What if she was in bed with him? But hearing her voice on the phone… it calmed me. And for the first time in days, I slept with a bit of peace. I glance at the wall clock as the single chime tolls. It is time for the short break. I shift my gaze to Marce’s office and see him packing up, no doubt heading off to report everything to my mother. “Your Majesty, I will step out for a bit,” He says. I nod once, watching him walk away. Once he’s gone, I turn my eyes toward my Omega. She’s leaning back in her chair, relaxed and content. Her very presence in my line of sight brings me peace. A smile touches my lips. That’s when my personal cellphone rings. I look at the screen. Riven. I answer. "Yes?” “Your Majesty,” Riven begins, “I have an update.” I swallow hard. I already knew my mother wouldn’t back down easily. That’s why I instructed Riven to stay alert. I placed a trusted man from the House of Vargas to watch over Bright, her younger brother, and another to monitor the hospital where her father is. I wanted to be informed the moment anything suspicious happened. “Come to my office,” I said, then hung up. Less than a minute later, Riven enters. Without looking around, he approaches my desk and bows. “Your Majesty. Her Grace reached out to the doctor in charge of your Omega’s father, Dr. Sarou.” I stiffen. “What!? Why?” “She offered him thousands of golden moon coins to work for her. Negotiations are ongoing, but so far, he’s not budging.” For a long moment, I say nothing. Then I nod. “Keep your eyes open. The moment he makes a decision, I want to know.” “Yes, Your Majesty.” As he exits, I shift my gaze toward Pearl Gem's office only to find it empty. My heart skips. Instantly, I rise and follow her scent. It leads me to the company cafeteria, a place I rarely visit. The large room is full, buzzing with chatter and the clatter of utensils. Hundreds of staff are enjoying their meals. Then I see her. Pearl is seated alone in the far corner. People glance at her, throw sneers, and whisper mockeries. But she ignores them all. I know she hears their scorn, yet she doesn’t flinch. She simply eats, content and unbothered. My chest warms at the sight. I walk toward her, and silence falls like a blanket. The mockery halts, replaced by stunned stares and quiet gasps. She doesn’t notice me at first, not until I sit down across from her. Startled, her beautiful green eyes go wide. I caught their color this time. Green, like wet grass. She begins to rise, but I shake my head. “Go on. Pretend I’m not here,” I say softly. She smiles and resumes eating, though a gentle cough escapes her. I pour her a glass of water without thinking. “Gentle,” I murmur as she drinks. After a few seconds, she’s fine again. She looks up and smiles. “The food here is great. It reminds me of home.” “The Omegas do the cooking, to be honest. Nobles won’t step foot near a kitchen or a fireplace.” She chuckles. The sound is like music to my ears. “You… you came here to eat too?” She asks, innocently. I almost laugh. I glance at her plate, then shake my head. “I don’t eat here. I rarely even come down. My dining hall is upstairs.” “Really?” “Yes.” Her eyes sparkle. “Your Majesty, do they serve meat in your cafeteria?” “Meat? Of course.” “Wow. Bright loves meat. I was thinking of getting some for him one of these days, but I’m a little short on money. With my dad’s surgery and all…” She trails off, suddenly realizing she’s said too much. Her eyes meet mine, and she swallows hard. She’s slipped and now she knows there’s no taking it back. What she doesn’t know is… I already decided. Whether she wants my help or not I’m going to give it.
