Chapter 2

1300 Words
I wake to Chrissy calling my name. She looks so concerned. Fully coming round I remember what happened. I ask Chrissy to pass me my bag, she grabs this from our cubbies and passes me in a hurry. She knows what I am after. I quickly dig through pulling out a little container, taking out the pills I chug them back with the water that Chrissy is passing me. ‘Thanks’ I get out with a sigh. ‘What the hell happened? You never have to take those pills. Are you ok?’ Chrissy says to me sounding worried. ‘I am ok, it’s only ever happened once before when the voice comes in powerful like that. This was different it was practically screaming’ I say to her shaking my head. ‘Tell me what happened’ She asks ‘I was just standing there mixing the cocktails someone ordered and this overwhelming smell took me. It is hard to explain. Then the voice just kept screaming in my head. I can’t even remember what it was saying. I looked up and a man was looking at me and the voice got louder so I knew I had to get out of there to my pills. But it was a little too much and everything just went black’ I let out a long breath after explaining. ‘You are going home, I will tell Owen’ Chrissy states. ‘No, no. I am not leaving. I will be ok. I am going to finish this water out the back and get some air and then I will come back in. I feel ok now’ I respond. Chrissy doesn’t look sure but she knows I won’t give in. I never give in to my issues. I take my bottle of water and head out back to the alley. Not the nest place in the world but there was air. I lean against the wall. I regain my marbles and take some deep breaths. Just as I am thinking of heading back in someone speaks to me. ‘What is a stunning she-wolf like yourself standing all alone in a place like this’ An odd man say’s waving his hands around the alley. What did he just call me I think. Before I could respond he walks quickly over to me and grabs me. ‘Unmated as well. Must be my lucky night’ He goes to tilt my head to the side and I instantly grab his arms, lifting my knee and kicking him in the gut. I grab his wrist as he flinches and flip him over me smashing him to the ground. I didn’t take defence classes for nothing. The man starts laughing and says ‘Fiesty little she-wolf we have here’ as he goes to get up. Before I can respond another man appears grabbing the man and growling like an animal he says’ to him. ‘Lay your hands on her again and I will make sure your death is not only slow but the worst pain you could ever imagine’ ‘Y-yes’ The man stutters ‘Yes what’ the second man growls at him/ ‘Yes your Highness’ He say’s with fear in his voice. The man lets him go and I watch him run off. I really don’t know what to do or say. The man turns around to me and I see the most intense hazel eyes I have ever seen and that’s when the scent hits me again. I can feel Lilac is trying to speak but she is muffled the extra tablets seem to be working. ‘Mate’ The strange but god like man says’ ‘Sorry what did you say’ is all I can muster. He looks at me with confusion and just stares. ‘You and that other guy clearly knew each other and both speak in weird code like words. I am sorry I don’t seem to understand. Thank you for helping me but I must get back to work now’ Somehow I get all of that out whilst being consumed with his presence and scent. I go to open the door and the man comes up behind me, sniffing me. ‘Mate’ He say’s again but this time with more passion? That’s the only way I can describe it. I turn to him a little frightened, his eyes seem to be black. I shiver and he notices. He closes his eyes and opens them turning back to the hazel I noticed before. He puts his hands to my face and before I can react his lips meet mine. I want to push him away but the sparks that seem to be bouncing off me wont’ let me. I deepen the kiss without even realising. My hands go to his hair and grab hard, he lets out a growl that I can not even explain that the sound does something to me. Lilac breaks through – what is that. Is she bloody purring like a cat. ‘We are not a cat’ she spits at me. This breaks me from my trance with this stranger. I pull away much to Lilacs disappointment as she whimpers. My goddess. What is wrong with me I think to myself. ‘My name is Dan’ He say’s to me catching his breath. I smile at him not quite sure what to do with myself. ‘Alexandra but everyone calls me Lex’ – I say ‘Alexandra. Such a beautiful name’ He practically purrs at me. I need a minute why is everyone acting like such an animal this evening. ‘Sorry I got caught in the moment. I really need to get back to work. Er thanks for the help again Dan’ I say and quickly go inside. ‘You’re welcome Alexandra and happy birthday’ he calls out to me as the door closes. Wait how did he know.. Oh yeah the sash. I take it off and sling it on the staff room table. I slump into a chair not really knowing what to do with myself. I must sit there a while because I am bought back to earth when Chrissy waves her hand in front of my face. ‘Right you’re going home. I will walk you. You are clearly not well’ She demands. ‘No. I am ok. It’s just well I was in the alley and..’ I start not really knowing how to explain it all. Chrissy goes ‘ Come on girl tell me before I call a paramedic to check you out after that fainting spell you had’ I take a deep breath and tell Chrissy everything that happened, all details including the weird things they were saying. Chrissy’s face doesn’t say much. At first I wasn’t sure if she believed me but she say’s ‘Well that was one hell of a way to end your 21st Birthday’ I can’t help my let out a real giggle. Owen walks in and see’s us and smiles. ‘Glad you’re feeling better Lex. Please go home if you need to’ ‘No. No I am ok. We close in 2 hours I can manage’ ‘Oh well I am glad because someone is asking for your moon goddess cocktail and I really don’t want to mess it up again’ He says with a chuckle I laugh and head back to the bar. ‘You will have to tell me one day where all these cocktail names come from you know’ Chrissy chimes in. I smile at her as we reach the bar and I begin mixing. I can’t tell her. She already knows too much about my issues. ‘I am not an issues Lex. I am part of you. You will realise it soon enough’ Lilac says proudly and goes quiet.
