Chapter 8: To Run or To Hide

833 Words
8:09 AM I woke up and realized I slept through my alarm. Four hours past my original alarm. This wasn't normal for my watch to not go off. I looked down and noticed it was turned off. But how? I must've slept on it too hard or pushed the wrong button, but that still wouldn't cause it to turn off completely. I shrugged it off and walked towards the kitchen. I grabbed some bread and layered it with the butter. I was hungrier than ever and went through one whole loaf of bread. I sat on a wooden chair and looked around the cabin. The sunlight was shining through the window seals. The cabin had carvings plastered all over the ceiling and the doors. The carvings included flowers, animals, and stars. Whoever made the carvings took their time and made sure each design was detailed. I swiftly went through the cabinets and found old junk from previous visitors. The junk included cards, stamps, and blank envelopes. I picked up one of the cards and saw a note. The note read: 'Cash Exchange for Caleb Roch' Hmmm. It was quite odd and a coincidence the name on the note was Caleb. There wasn't any other information on the card explaining it. Must be another Caleb they're looking for. But what would they be needing a cash exchange for? I finished up my breakfast, then cleaned up the mess and threw away any leftover scraps. As I got myself together and headed towards the living area, I heard a noise coming from outside. I heard footsteps coming towards the cabin. Large footsteps. I peeked out the window and noticed it was a very muscular man. He was tall and very buff. Whatever he's looking for, must be inside here. He started approaching closer to the cabin. I grabbed all of my stuff in a hurry and snuck quietly to hide. When it was just the right time, I made my escape through the back door. The man saw me and immediately came chasing after me. I hadn't felt fear until now. My heart skipped an entire beat and I was running for my life. “IF YOU KNOW WHAT'S BEST FOR YOU I WOULD STOP RIGHT NOW YOUNG LADY!" The man yelled. I started running in a zigzag around the trees. He kept yelling and telling me to stop. But I couldn't, and he wasn't going to stop me from getting away. I am currently living through my second biggest fear. My first would be having to speak with my parents about this entire mess. This man was keeping up with his speed and didn't seem phased. I used everything in me to not lose my breath and stamina. After a few minutes I noticed he had stopped running and was nowhere in sight. But I didn't see him actually walk towards the opposite direction. I went to the nearest tree and hid my entire body behind it. I took some deep breaths and slid down the tree. I was completely exhausted and close to being worn out. This gave me time to scan the area and check for any landmarks. If I could find a gas station nearby, I could just phone in for a driving service. Should I go back to the castle or start a new life in the city? It was only up to me to survive this and getting out safely, without anyone recognizing me. I sat for ten minutes, just observing and recovering. My next move meant life or death. I slowly got up and away from the tree. I did a double take and made sure no one was around me. I then began to walk away from the tree. I thought about my steps and the birds chirping amongst me. I had to play it safe and take cover in and out. The zigzag motion wasn't ideal, because it would just create more tension. The flowers still bloomed and the air was crisp. The clouds were barely noticeable, because of the beaming sun. I was upset that I had to spend such a beautiful day like this, being chased by who knows what? I held it together and tried to stay optimistic about the situation. When I got to the next tree stump along the way, I hear a footstep. A footstep that sounded familiar, but this time I could sense it near me. I could feel it was directly behind me. “I would not move if I were you." The man's voice came up loud. “I just need to get back and I won't ever cross these boundaries again." I turned around and started begging. “Once you cross this territory and touch any property, you are under my custody." The man continued. With no thought, I began to run. *Buzz* *Shock* My body fell to the floor. I had just been tasered and lost feeling in my body. This was it. I surrendered.
