I probably just made the biggest mistake of my life. Now that the man knows I'm the heiress, he has decided to keep me here. How does he want to go about this and how much more time do I have until I'm up for ransom? My mind was all over the place.
“What are you going to do to me?" I made eye contact with the man.
“Just sit over there, while I go get some more logs for the fireplace. Tonight is going to be extra cold." He started to leave through the back door.
I'm in complete hopelessness. And even if I do manage to escape, I still wouldn't be able to go back to the castle. It's already too late, and I just ran out of hope.
I scanned the room to see if there was anything he had brought in before I went unconscious. Something was missing, but I couldn't put my finger on it.
My eyes started to pick a motion coming from the right side of the room. Like someone was walking near the cabin, but they weren't heavy footed like the man. They kept walking back and forth as if they were looking for something.
“HELP!"
“HELP!"
“HELP!"
I screamed and started moving my chains around for the person to notice me.
The person began to walk around and saw that the door was open in the back.
It was Caleb.
“CALEB! Just the person that I wanted to see!" I was so relieved and filled with joy, I started to cry.
“Just stay calm and we'll get out of here."
“You won't believe what happened to me and what I had to go through-"
“Ok- Okay. We'll have plenty of time to talk about it, but I need to get you out of these chains right now." He interrupted and began to untie the chains.
I couldn't understand what made him come back for me, and if he wanted to or if he felt that I was going to rat him out. Either way, I'm just grateful to get the hell out of here.
After he untied me from the chains, I got up and immediately hugged him. I was in tears and had no other way of hiding them, besides wiping them off his shirt.
“Are you okay? Did he hurt you?" He asked in concern.
“I'm fine, I just have the bruise from his taser," I replied.
“I was so worried about you Paige, I had to come back!" He exclaimed.
“But why? You didn't have to. I wouldn't have ratted you out."
“I just couldn't. You jumped out of my car into moving traffic. Plus, you haven't been outside of castle grounds in what? Ten years?" He went on.
“I know, I know. But how did you manage to find me in the middle of nowhere?" I questioned.
“Your flower trail, and your shoe imprints weren't hard to point out." He smirked.
It felt great to be back in his presence. I felt safe and warm inside. I then remembered the note I found in one of the cabinets.
“You know what else is crazy? I found one of these notes here with your name on it." I pulled open the cabinet to show him the note.
He grabbed the note and looked at it for a while. His eyes were practically glued onto the note.
“Do you know what that means or what?" I asked.
He didn't respond and kept staring at it.
“Caleb."
“Don't tell me the name written on the note is you…"
He looked up and sat down on one of the chairs.
“I have no idea what this means," He murmured.
“Then why were you staring at it like it was a magazine?"
He shoved the note in his pocket and started shuffling through the other notes. Completely disregarding my question.
I let it go and grabbed my stuff off the floor. I put my watch back into my bag and closed it shut.
“HEY! Who's in there!" The man came in yelling.
“Paige, RUN!" Caleb yelled and gestured for me to leave.
I hesitated at first, but then took my bag and ran out of the cabin. Caleb and the man immediately started to go at it with each other.
I was outside looking for something large and heavy to throw at the man. I ran into the logs and started dragging them closer to the door. The man was much stronger and older than Caleb, I knew this wasn't going to be a fair match.
I got a clear angle of the man, as I carried the log with a firm grasp over my shoulder. I gave myself a countdown and threw the log at the man.
I missed.
“You're gonna need better aim next time if you think you can get out of this." The man yelled, and continued to tear up Caleb.
I was in a rage. This man didn't care, AT ALL.
I grabbed the second log out of anger and threw it with all my strength at the man. It hit directly at his neck, causing him to collapse and puncturing his skull.
“Is he d- dead?" I stuttered.
Caleb looked over his body and checked for a pulse. From the looks of it, he wasn't going to make it.
“We don't have much time. We need to go and fast." Caleb insinuated.
Caleb dropped everything and dragged me out the door with him.
