Ivy's POV
“Hurry to room 1… she's having a miscarriage!” A voice echoed in my head as white lights burned my confused eyes.
My body felt as if it was being tagged and pulled from all sides. The pain was unbearable, but my strength was too weak to scream. I could feel tears rolling down my eyes.
My body shook all of a sudden, making me feel panicky. “…uum, doctor, we are losing her,” another voice said as my eyes rolled back.
“She has lost too much blood. Her blood is rare, and we do not have it here!” A voice I assumed to be the doctor's said before I felt myself go under.
Everything faded as I entered the quiet world again. Just me and my mind as I smiled at my ill luck, everything in my life seemed to go wrong at the same time.
This was it, the end of Ivy Williams, the orphan girl who knew nothing of her past life or origin.
I scoffed in my mind, wishing I could curse out loud at the world.
'Omelette? How could I smell omelette?' Was I dead? I felt tired, as if I hadn't moved in forever. My nostrils yet again caught another smell of vinegar. That confirmed it. There was no way I was dead.
I slowly opened my eyes, wishing I could run towards the direction of the smell. My stomach growled loudly…stomach? My baby? My mind quickly registered what had happened.
I could feel my heavy heart finally decide to register its presence as I felt a clenching pain as I remembered.
“Where am I?” I muttered, my voice barely coming out, as I felt as if someone had made me swallow a bucket of dry sand. My eyes travelled through the room with pale pink walls.
A large walk-in closet stood at one corner, a door to what looked like the bathroom on another. I tried to sit up, but I felt my muscles ache everywhere. Before I could struggle again, the door clicked open.
“Oh, thank the stars, you are okay. You had me worried," a man around 5'9" tall with blue eyes and a medium body entered the room. He rushed towards me, quickly hugging me, excitement filling his eyes.
I froze as he embraced me tightly. After a few seconds, he might have noticed how still I was as he pulled away.
“Um… sorry, I got overexcited there for a minute,” he explained, scratching the back of his head. For some reason, I found him adorable as he did that.
“Where am I? And who are you?” I asked, looking at him in curiosity.
For some unknown reason, I didn't feel threatened that I woke up in a place that I didn't know. I felt safe around him the moment I laid my eyes on him.
“Um…I'm Jacob Mc claire, and you are in my place,” he answered the questions exactly as asked. I raised my brows at him, waiting for him to explain more.
“Ivy…I took you to the hospital from the …um…party,” he said, cutting his words from time to time as if protecting my feelings. A sharp pain crossed my stomach, making me squeal as I rolled into a ball.
“What's the matter, Ivy?” I heard him ask, but I couldn't answer as my body gave in to the pain as I passed out. An antiseptic smell hit my nostrils.
Was I dreaming earlier? I opened my eyes as I heard the beeping of machines around me. 'Hospital, that is where I was , of course. How could I be around a cute, funny guy?' I thought slightly, feeling disappointed.
I pressed the call button by my bedside, and not long after, a man in a lab coat made his way into the room.
“Hello Miss Ivy, it seems you are determined to stay a little longer here,” the man said, making me furrow my eyebrows.
'Was that dark humor?' Am I dreaming again? I fixed my eyes on him with no expression on my face.
“Huh… sorry for that, Miss Ivy, I am Doctor Boniface. How are you feeling?” He asked as he prepared his stethoscope to examine me.
“Okay,” I muttered as I looked at him in confusion.
“Okay, everything appears to be okay, but you have to have more rest,” the doctor explained.
“What happened to my baby?” I asked, my voice broken as I still felt thirsty.
“Didn't your husband explain things to you?” He asked, making me feel even more confused. I felt bile rising at the mention of husband.
'Was Caleb here? How dare he?' I felt my anger rising as my mind filled with questions.
“Husband? What are you talking about?” I asked, looking at him in shock. The doctor looked at me, his face lighting up as if he had realized something.
“Well, Miss Ivy, I believe you are experiencing trauma amnesia,” he announced, making me feel more confused.
What amnesia was he talking about? I hadn't forgotten what happened at the party and the lights at the hospital. After that, nothing else was clear until this conversation.
“How much can you remember?” Doc. Boniface asked, looking at me in concern as he made notes on his file.
“Um… I remember the party, and what happened after that I don't know, and then I woke up here,” I explained. However, I couldn't mention my dream; maybe that was all it was.
“I am deeply sorry, Miss Ivy, we did all we could to save them both, but you had lost too much blood and…"
“Save them? I was pregnant with twins?” I asked, feeling my bile rising on realization.
“Yes, we only saved one of the babies, all thanks to the man who donated his blood to save your life,” the doctor explained, but my mind was lost in its world.
“We are going to keep you for a few more days for observation before we discharge you again,” the doctor continued, but all I could think of was the little pea who survived in my womb.
My little fighter, I didn't know whether to celebrate or cry out in anger. As the doctor left the room, I felt warm tears flow down my cheeks as I caressed my stomach.
The door burst open again, making me look up in shock.
“So it's true you really started it out with another man, you wh*re!” Caleb burst into the room. His pregnant lover was beside him as she grinned like a Cheshire cat.
“What? Caleb, what's wrong with you?” I asked, looking between both of them.
“Enough with the pretense. I'm glad the bastard came out. How dare you cheat on me,” he growled, making me feel my chest constrict.
'How dare he turn things around on me?' 'How could he celebrate my pain after all I did to help him?'
“Here, sign those divorce papers, and you are not getting a dime from me!” He said, throwing a stack of papers on my bed.
“You will regret this, Caleb Richards!” I said as I took the divorce papers, ready to sign them.
“The only thing he regrets is marrying a w***e like you!” Janey shrieked beside him as she snaked her hands around his waist.
“What the hell is going on here?” A voice came from the door, a voice that sounded relatively familiar to my ears.
And that's when I saw him, the man I thought I dreamt of. There he stood, in the flesh, walking to my bedside defensively.
“Who are…Mr. McClaire?” Caleb asked, not hiding his surprise as he looked at him.
“Mr. Richards? What is happening here?” Jacob asked, looking at Caleb in an intimidating way.
“Ivy do you know who this is? How dare you seduce my…"
“Ofcourse I know, he's my lover…" I quickly jumped in before he could say anything. I had to steal the chance to sting back for what they did. Not only that, but I didn't care if they knew each other from somewhere.
“Unbelievable, sign those papers and don't expect anything from me!” Caleb said, his voice enraged as he tried to make his way to me but was stopped.
“Touch her and you are dead!” The man, Jacob, if I remembered his name correctly, said. No one has ever defended me that way in my life.
The fear in Caleb's eyes was evident as he looked at the man in front of him. I signed the papers and handed them over to him. For a moment, I thought I saw regret in his eyes, which quickly faded.
I rejoiced as I watched them leave the room, defeated.
However as I came down from my high, I couldn't help but scold myself in my mind. ‘What the hell have you gotten yourself in, Ivy?’
