THE BILLIONAIRE Episode 7: The Sixth Man The rain had finally stopped. But inside the abandoned Blackwood Hotel, the silence felt more dangerous than the storm. Daniel Blackwood stood beside the old wooden table, staring at the golden key his father had hidden for more than twenty years. Beside it lay the metal box. Inside the box was the letter from his father, Jonathan Blackwood, the video recording, and the evidence of a fortune that Daniel had never known existed. But there was something else. A name. Edward Kane. Daniel slowly looked at David Carter, who was sitting against the wall, one hand pressed against his wounded shoulder. “You said my father trusted six men,” Daniel said. David nodded. “Six men who knew about the fortune.” “And five of them are dead?” Daniel asked. David's expression became darker. “Five are dead.” Daniel looked at the video screen. His father's final message was still frozen on the television. Jonathan Blackwood had warned him about the Black Crown, the secret organization that had hunted him for years. But Daniel couldn't stop thinking about one thing. The sixth man. Edward Kane. A loud noise suddenly came from upstairs. David immediately reached for his gun. Daniel froze. “What was that?” David raised one finger to his lips. They listened. Footsteps. Slow. Heavy. Someone was walking across the second floor. Daniel's heart began pounding. “There's someone here,” David whispered. The footsteps stopped. Then came three knocks from above. Knock. Knock. Knock. Daniel stared at the ceiling. “Could it be Edward?” David shook his head. “I don't know.” Suddenly, the lights went out. The hotel disappeared into darkness. Daniel heard David moving. “Stay behind me.” A gunshot exploded from upstairs. Bang! The sound echoed through the building. Daniel ducked behind the table. David fired toward the staircase. “Who's there?” No answer. Then something came crashing down the stairs. It was a man. Daniel's breath stopped. The man landed face down on the floor. David approached carefully. He turned the body over. Daniel recognized him immediately. “That's one of the men who attacked us at the warehouse.” David checked his pulse. “Dead.” Daniel stared at the dead man's face. “If he was working for Edward, why would Edward kill him?” David looked toward the darkness. “Maybe he wasn't working for Edward.” A small red light suddenly appeared at the end of the hallway. Daniel noticed it. “What is that?” David turned. Before he could answer, a voice came from the darkness. “You should have left the past alone, Daniel.” Daniel recognized the voice. His blood ran cold. “Edward.” A man stepped slowly into the faint light. Edward Kane. He was wearing a black coat, completely dry despite the rain outside. His face was calm. Almost too calm. David raised his gun. “Don't move.” Edward smiled. “You're still alive, David. I'm impressed.” “You shot me.” Edward shrugged. “I told them not to kill you.” David's eyes narrowed. “Why?” “Because Jonathan respected you.” Daniel stepped forward. “You knew my father.” Edward looked at him for several seconds. “I knew Jonathan better than anyone.” “Then tell me the truth.” Edward's smile disappeared. “Your father was not the innocent businessman you believe he was.” Daniel clenched his fists. “Don't lie to me.” “I'm not.” Edward walked closer. “Your father built an empire using money that didn't belong to him.” Daniel shook his head. “He told me the fortune was stolen from the Black Crown.” Edward laughed quietly. “And you believed him?” David interrupted. “Don't listen to him, Daniel.” Edward looked at David. “You've always been loyal.” David raised his gun higher. “Give me one reason not to pull the trigger.” Edward looked directly at Daniel. “Because if you kill me, you will never learn what happened to your mother.” Daniel froze. His mother's name had not been mentioned in years. “What did you say?” Edward's expression remained serious. “Your mother is alive.” Daniel couldn't breathe. “No.” “Yes.” “My father told me she died.” “Your father lied.” Daniel stepped toward Edward. “Where is she?” Edward reached inside his coat. David immediately aimed his gun. “Slowly.” Edward pulled out a photograph. He threw it onto the table. Daniel picked it up. The photograph showed a woman standing beside a large window. She looked older. But there was no mistaking her. Daniel's hands began shaking. “Mother…” David stared at the photograph. “How?” Edward said nothing. Daniel looked up. “Where is she?” “Safe.” “Where?” “Somewhere your father couldn't find her.” Daniel's eyes filled with anger. “You expect me to believe you?” “No.” Edward reached into his pocket again. This time, he pulled out a small black envelope. “That's why I brought proof.” He placed it on the table. Daniel opened it. Inside was a handwritten letter. He recognized the handwriting immediately. His mother's handwriting. Daniel read the first sentence. Daniel, if you are reading this, Edward has finally found you. Daniel looked at Edward. “What does this mean?” Edward's eyes moved toward the golden key. “It means your father wasn't the only one hiding secrets.” David suddenly noticed something. “Daniel.” Daniel turned. The metal box was open. The letter from Jonathan was still there. But the golden key was gone. Daniel's face changed. “Where is the key?” Edward smiled. “I don't have it.” David immediately searched Edward. Nothing. Daniel looked around the room. Then he noticed something. The dead man's hand. His fingers were tightly closed. David crouched beside him. He slowly opened the dead man's hand. Inside was the golden key. Daniel stared at it. “He took it.” Edward shook his head. “No.” “What do you mean?” Edward looked toward the dead man. “He didn't take it.” A strange sound came from the hallway. A phone ringing. Everyone turned. Ring. Ring. Ring. David slowly walked toward the sound. He found an old telephone sitting on a small table. It shouldn't have been working. But it was ringing. David looked at Daniel. “Don't answer it.” The phone continued ringing. Daniel walked forward. “Maybe it's my father.” “Your father is dead,” David said. Daniel picked up the receiver. “Hello?” Silence. Then a man's voice whispered: “Daniel.” Daniel's blood froze. “Who is this?” The voice answered. “You have the key.” Daniel looked at Edward. Edward's face had suddenly become pale. “You know who I am,” the voice continued. Daniel tightened his grip on the phone. “Tell me your name.” A low laugh came through the receiver. “I am the man your father was afraid of.” The line went dead. Daniel slowly lowered the phone. Edward looked genuinely frightened. David noticed. “You know that voice.” Edward didn't answer. “Edward!” Finally, Edward whispered: “The Black Crown.” Daniel stared at him. “I thought the Black Crown was an organization.” “It is.” “Then who was that?” Edward looked toward the windows. “The man who controls it.” Suddenly, headlights appeared outside the hotel. One vehicle. Then another. Then another. David looked through the broken window. “We're surrounded.” Daniel held the key tightly. Edward walked toward the back door. “We need to leave.” David aimed his gun at him. “Why should we trust you?” Edward stopped. “You shouldn't.” He turned around. “But if you stay here, Daniel will never see his mother.” Daniel looked at Edward. “Take me to her.” Edward nodded. “Then we have a deal.” A loud explosion shook the building. The windows shattered. Daniel fell to the floor. David pulled him behind the table. Men in black clothing rushed through the entrance. Gunfire erupted. David fired back. Edward disappeared into the smoke. “Edward!” Daniel shouted. No answer. David grabbed Daniel's arm. “Move!” They ran toward the basement. Behind them, footsteps followed. Daniel looked back. A man stood in the doorway. He wasn't wearing a mask. He looked directly at Daniel. Then he smiled. Daniel stopped. He knew that face. It was the face from his father's old video. The mysterious sixth man. Edward had lied. Edward wasn't the sixth man. The sixth man had been standing in front of Daniel all along. The man slowly raised a gun. “Your father should have killed you when he had the chance.” David pushed Daniel forward. “RUN!” A gunshot exploded. Daniel and David disappeared into the darkness of the basement. And above them, the man smiled. Because he already knew where they were going. The hidden fortune wasn't the real prize. The real prize was Daniel Blackwood. And now the hunt had begun.
