Cameron Barker sat in his unmarked police sedan and looked at the small accommodation unit, one of three identical units clustered together behind the Ti Tree roadhouse. There was a vehicle bearing Northern Territory number plates parked immediately in front of the unit, a rental car, Barker knew, used by the four-man team of Federal police officers assigned to keep Jackson Traynor from harm until his up-coming court appearance. There were no other vehicles in the vicinity, confirming what he had been told by the roadhouse manager; only the middle unit was occupied.
“Looks quiet,” the man sitting next to him said.
Barker turned and looked at Sergeant John Singh, a highly-qualified crime scene investigator, attached to the Forensics section in Alice Springs.
