Rodolfo Herrera slowed and entered the Central Mount Stuart vehicle rest-stop viewing area adjacent to the Stuart Highway. A couple of dozen curious tourists, having briefly interrupted their journey to observe and photograph the mount several hundred metres to the west, gathered in small groups around the western edge of the parking area. Some gathered in front of a large information board displaying historical facts relating to the mount while others snapped photos of the hill in the distance. A well-worn walking track from the viewing area to the base of the large hill led those who wanted a closer look, or perhaps the opportunity to climb the landmark, a chance to get up close and personal with the popular attraction.
