WHAT THE BOND REMEMBERS

1113 Words
ROSE POV It was early in the morning, I usually wake up early because of work. I always like eating breakfast, and sometimes even making lunch to sustain me at work, especially when I know I would be very busy at work, and might skip lunch break, or I start craving homemade meals. But today, I woke up feeling really weak and tired, I thought I would feel resolved, and relief after saying what I needed to say last night. I said what I have been holding in, then I left without looking back. Because I believe it’s better this way, let’s just be professional, and forget about this mating bond. I sluggishly stood up from the bed, went to brush my teeth, and do my stuff before preparing breakfast, when I suddenly felt a strange flicker within. I couldn’t explain what I was at first, maybe it was because I couldn’t fall asleep last night, keeping me awake till late at night, but I was finally able to sleep after chatting, and watching some videos. I ignored that strange feeling, then went to prepare breakfast before going to work. That sensation came back, this time I had suspected what it was. It was the mate bond. ‘but why was I suddenly feeling it now? I haven’t felt it since after the rejection, so why now?’ Now when I finally decided to move on, to leave everything behind, and focus on my career. On myself. What was I expected to do? Accept him with open arms. Forget the pain? the humiliation? Even though he looks remorseful, I refuse to jeopardize my sanity, and happiness for a bond. Maybe I should be happy he rejected me, if he hadn’t, I would still have been the nameless omega, whiling away my potentials. Looking back, Adien wasn’t that bad. He wasn’t the villain. I remember he used to be a bright and kindhearted boy when we were young, when his parents, the late alpha and luna of the pack was still alive. Then I didn’t even know who my parents was, I stayed in the pack’s orphanage. I remembered then I was always bullied for being wolfless and not having a secondary gender. I wasn’t grouped with either the alphas, or betas, or even the omegas. It was like I was an ordinary human living among the werewolves. I would be starved by the workers, bullied by the kids. I had no friends, no parents, no guardian to protect me. I was told that my parents abandoned me in the orphanage because I was wolfless. I spent nights hating myself, isolating myself, and even harming myself. But I met Adien, he saved me from the bullies on day. He held me, helped me stand up, dusted my clothes and feet, and he even threatened the kids to report to his dad who was the alpha if they ever bullied me again. After helping me, he simply left, but that was after telling me how important it is to stand up for myself, and not let anyone make me feel small or inferior. He said he was small in size compared to his pair, but he never let them make fun of him because of his physique. After that day, I started standing up for myself, I won’t cry when I get bullied, I no longer hated the world for abandoning me. It was like he motivated me, and gave me the will to fight and be a stronger version of myself. Then his parents died, and he changed. He became cold and distant. He became the alpha of the pack at such a young age, he was taught how to be strong at all time, how to swallow his pain, and not let anyone see or become his weakness. I knew because I also grew up without any parents, so in the orphanage, we were taught to be strong because no one is coming to save us. Even though I stayed away from him, I couldn't help but watch him. He was always alone, with so many responsibilities and expectations on his shoulder. So when he told me that day about being his mate, I didn’t know how to feel. I was happy yes, but I knew what he needed. He needed a powerful mate, someone who could stand beside him, someone who he could lean on, and at that point in time, I wasn’t that someone. As much as it hurt me, I kind of expected the rejection, I heard the whispers, the way people looked at me like I didn’t deserve that honor. Maybe that was why I wasn’t that hurt, and devastated. Because I knew that our union wont end well, even if he had gone against all odd, and accepted me. Would my wolf had come to life? Would I have become this better version of myself? I believe that somethings happen in our life for a reason. And some people come into our life for a purpose, and only that purpose. If you try to make them more than they’re supposed to be in your life, then everything will be in turmoil. After having breakfast, I was finally prepared for work, and I left. On getting to the entrance of the building, I met Adien who was with his P.A, and I walked passed with just a greeting, without waiting for his responses. I entered the elevator, about to press the floor number when Adien stopped the elevator from closing with his left foot, and entered the same elevator with me. When his P.A was also about to enter, he signaled him to wait and take the next one. ‘why would he do that though’ We stood in the elevator quite, before he broke the silence “Good morning Rose. You didn’t wait for my responses earlier” I didn’t know how to answer him, so I just stayed quite instead. “That’s fine. How was your night? Did you sleep well?” he continued. This time he asked while looking at me with an expectant eyes, like he was desperate to hear my answer, so I just answered with an “hmm” He smiled and continued “That’s good. I also had a good night” Then the elevator opened, and I bowed slightly before leaving. “On getting to my office, I greeted some staff who was already there. I opened my files. I tried to stay focused, that was one thing I was very good at. And yet--- somewhere underneath all of it, something that should have been cold, and dead kept being warm.”
