"He should be waking up soon."
"How long does it usually take?"
"With his type of injury, and considering he is a human, it may take up to six months to fully heal , and maybe a year before he has full range of motion. Unless you can convince the Alpha to turn him. As for him waking up, it is all up to him."
Whats an Alpha? What injury and what did they want to turn him into? Andrew thought as he was trying to open his eyes but they were just too heavy. He soon fell back asleep.
*A few hours later*
Andrew felt it easier to open his eyes, and when he did manage to open them, he was blinded by the bright lights. Slowly opening them again to adjust to the light, he came to realize that he was in a hospital room. The memories came rushing back- the day by his work with the wolf in the trap and getting shot with an arrow. When he tried to move he groaned lightly in pain as he looked to his shoulder that was bandaged and in a sling.
As he looked around more, he saw that there was a female figure wrapped in a blanket on the couch. As if sensing his stare, the women turned around and sat up. What he saw astonished him, electric blue eyes surrounded by medium length blondish brown hair around a soft featured face.
"You're awake," she said enthusiastically with a large smile on her face.
"Um.... Hi.." Andrew croaked out as she went to get him some water. He thanked her for the water and drank the refreshing liquid. "Who are you and where am I?" he questioned
"You have been in a private hospital since yesterday after the incident. As for who i am, my name is Freya Lockwood." she replied with a light smile.
"I'm Andrew Hawthorne, I don't mean to be rude, but why am I in a private hospital and the community one in town?"
"It is the least we could do since you save my life," she responded.
"What do you mean?" he asked with a confused look as she showed him the identical half moon scars on either side of her calf.
"You helped me to get out of the bear trap, and then you still jumped in front of the hunter, saving me yet again from an arrow," she explained.
He thought for a moment and remembered that no one was there besides him, the wolves, and the hunter. He was about to ask her how she knew all of that, when a person walked in, introducing himself as Dr. Lucas White.
"How are you feeling Andrew?" The doctor inquired.
"I'm sore and hungry and tired. How did you know my name?" Andrew replied.
"You didn't tell him yet?" the doctor directed the question towards Freya.
"I was getting to that when you came in," she remarked lightly.
"Okay.. So Andrew, all you need to do is rest and recover. If you ever need something just push the button on the side of the bed and either I or one of the nurses will assist you. You will be sore for a while, but we have a morphine drip to help with the pain. Now, I am going to leave you be for now and have someone send in some food," the doctor left after that.
Andrew looked back at Freya with questioning eyes. "I'd like to know how you know all of this."
"Because I was there, I was the wolf trapped in the bear trap, I was the wolf that you saved from being killed by the hunter. I am a... werewolf."
Andrew had so many emotions running through his mind that ended up displaying on his face. Confusion, surprise and fear made an appearance on his face as his breathing started to become labored and his heart started to race. "Yo-you're a we-wer-werewolf??" he stuttered.
"Yes I am a werewolf. But we wont harm you in any way. We just want you to get better... I want you to get better," Freya replied
"Why do you want me to get better?"
"Because you are my mate."
"What do you mean by mate?"
"In our culture, we are assigned a mate, or soulmate, by the Moon Goddess. We know who our mates are by smell and by touch. We each have a unique smell, and when we touch, small sparks erupt where our skin meets," she said as she touched his hand as if to show him a point. As she did just that, sparks flew across his hand as she lightly held it.
"What do you mean by smell?" he questioned.
"Every werewolf has heightened senses, hearing, smell, and eyesight. To me you smell like a pine tree mixed with a fresh spring rain." As she explained this to him, a nurse came in with a cart full of food.
"Will you need help to eat?" the nurse questioned.
"No, I think i got it." he smiled lightly. He tried to sit up more to eat but couldn't get it right, so Freya and the nurse helped him sit up, putting a couple of pillows behind him as support.
"Thank you Becky, I can take it from here," Freya told the nurse. As the nurse left, Freya went around the bed to the cart of food and asked what type of soup he wanted.
"Is there tomato soup?"he asked.
"Yes there is," she said with a smile "It happens to be my favorite."
"It is my favorite as well," he replied with a smile. After they were done eating he asked her if he could make a phone call to his parents.
"Of course you can, but please refrain from telling them about what I am," she said while handing him her cell phone.
His mother picked up on the fourth ring, "..hello?"
"Hey mom.. It's Andrew."
"WHERE ARE YOU?? We have been looking for you when your roommate Kevin said you had not come home last night," his mom screamed at him, making Freya smile seemingly like she could hear every word his mom said.
"Don't worry mom, I'm okay now. I had an accident but i am being taken care of."
"Where are you? We are coming to get you," she demanded.
"Mom, I'm fine. It's a bit more complicated than that," he explains, "I will call you tomorrow, okay?"
"Fine. Make sure you eat and stay healthy. I love you."
"I love you too mom," he said as he ended the call. "Now, can you tell me more," he said to Freya.
