Chapter 1
First day of junior year. How exciting. Only my sixth time taking it throughout my life. As I pull up to the school's parking lot I can already see cliques. The jocks, cheerleaders, math nerds, band geeks, skater dudes, goth chicks, druggies, you know the usual. There really isn't much variety here, but then again any school I've been to hasn't had much. As I continue to drive through they all stare at me, which kind of makes me anxious, but I'm use to staring whenever I start at a new school. I finally find an open parking spot, so I pulled in, grabbed my bag, and started getting out when all of a sudden a preppy, blonde cheerleader approached me.
"Hi I'm Ashley!" she smiled so big I think I saw the molars in the back of her mouth.
"Hi I'm Eliza," I grinned.
"You must be new here because I've never seen you before! I thought I should introduce myself because then at least you know one familiar face!"
"Thank you and if you don't mind could you show me where room F6 is?"
"OMG, you have chemistry too!? Looks like we'll be having first hour together! Sounds like more time I can catch you up on things at East Wood High."
It was nice making a new friend early on and having someone show me around, but she was too happy for me. I mean how could someone be so happy on their first day of junior year? Well, maybe that's what I liked about her because I lacked some happiness. Sure she came on a little strong, but I think we're gonna be good friends.. well for however long I stay here.
"And final stop of the tour, Room F6, you can sit by me and we can be lab partners. How exciting!"
I looked around the room before I finally decide to sit down by Ashley. Not that I would sit by anyone else, but is everyone like her? From what I noticed no. Everyone else looked brain dead or looked like they were gonna pass out, which I get its first hour, but come on. As I got my notebook out the second bell rang, which indicated that the class has begun and all of a sudden the intercom turned on;
"Welcome back Timberwolves! Welcome to the first day of the 2015-2016 school year! To start the school year we will be having a pep assembly Thursday night before the football game approximately at 5:30, so come and show your school spirit by wearing purple and silver! Remember to make the most out of this year and to have fun, but also be the responsible students you are! GO TIMBERWOLVES!"
Wow. They really have school spirit here.
"Eliza, please tell me you're gonna come to cheerleading tryouts tomorrow. I promise it's so much fun and you'll like it! Plus who wouldn't want to cheer for the football players? I mean not to be that girl, but East Wood High School got pretty lucky in the gene pool," Ashley said practically begging me and giving me the eyes a toddler gives its parents when it wants something.
"I'll think about it," I say giggling from what she just said, "okay I'll do-"
Cutting off my sentence the Chemistry teacher started introducing himself, "Welcome back students! I will be your Chemistry 1A teacher. My name is Mr. Anderson, but you can call me Mr. A, A-Dawg, really whatever you want that is appropriate and won't hurt my feelings," he finished laughing.
He looked really young for being a teacher, but also kind of hot. I would never hit on my teacher, but he definitely has my attention.
After trying to listen to Mr. Anderson finish up his welcome back speech, the most beautiful man I've ever seen came rushing into the room. Beautiful isn't the typical word you would use to describe a man, but it's true. He had these perfect dark brown curls, a very defined jawline, the deepest of blue eyes I have ever seen, and the perfect lips. I know, I know how can lips be perfect? but trust me if you saw them, they were perfect. They were the perfect shade of color, the perfect position on his face, and the perfect fill. He was tall and just by looking at him I could just tell he was built.
"Sorry Mr. Anderson for being late, but something came up." this mysterious man said while strolling to an open seat.
"I'll accept it because it's the first day, but don't make it a habit Mr. Konner. Oh, and I almost forgot! We actually have a new student joining us this year...sorry if I butcher your name...is it A-liza Lee?" He asked staring me directly in my eyes.
"Actually it's E-liza, but close enough".
"My apologies. So, Eliza would you mind sharing with the class a little about yourself?"
Oh f**k. I knew this was coming. Every single time. I can't share too much, but I don't want to be too vague. Okay, Eliza think, think what is something you can share that won't totally expose you? Well, I guess I'll just twist the truth a little bit.
"Hi, I'm Eliza, I'm sixteen, and I've been to eight different schools".
"EIGHT? Holy moly! if you don't mind me asking.. why have you been to eight different schools?" Mr. Anderson says with his jaw practically on the floor.
s**t. What was I thinking? How am I gonna explain this? Think Eliza. THINK!
"Oh..um...well..you see...I'm actually an...army brat. Yeah, I'm an army brat, so my family has to travel a lot!"
"Very interesting! Class welcome Eliza and let's get started with today's lesson and if we hurry you guys won't have homework," Mr.Anderson says while taking a seat at his desk.
Okay Eliza you need to think before you speak. What the hell was that? An army brat really? Whatever hopefully they all forget I ever said that. Okay but the real problem here is what does that mysterious, beautiful man think of me? Well not that I really care nor should but I was always told that first impressions are everything. You know what maybe it wasn't as bad as I think it was. Maybe it's just my anxiety, which always likes it acts up. Maybe Ashley knows something about this mysterious man...
"Hey, Ashley...uh...who was that guy that came rushing in?"
"Him?" she says pointing, which causes him to chuckle.
"Ashley stop! but yes.." I felt my cheeks get hot fast.
"That's Mason Konner. He's definitely one of the hottest for our class, but he's also so mysterious. No one knows much about him because he doesn't do any extracurriculars and has like no friends. It's a shame because I feel like he has a lot of potential. It's almost as if he's "too cool" for anyone," as she finishes her sentence he gives a sly smile as if he could hear us.
Too cool for anyone huh? Well, that's about to change whether he likes it or not.
As we finish our class discussion the bell rings so I scurry to pick up all my stuff and try to get a better look at Mason. I needed to know him. I don't know why I just needed to. But Before I know it Mason has disappeared and I'm still stuck in Room F6 trying to help Ashley pick her s**t up.
After two more class periods, it was finally lunch time. Being a vampire isn't exactly ideal when it comes to high school cafeterias with so many humans trapped in one room. The only things that help me are self-control and the strong BO coming off of the freshman. I actually have standards if I'm trying to get a quick bite. I guess a salad will do it for now.
I decide to seat with Ashley and her friends; Kayla and Marissa, which were also preppy cheerleaders. They seemed like genuine people, but I couldn't focus on their conversations. All I could think about was this Mason character. Who was he? What was he like? What does he like? Ughhh...I shouldn't think about this. Who even really cares. It's not like I could get close to him. Getting close leads to friendship and then next thing you know 20 years of being friends goes by and everyone starts to age, but me. I just need to clear my head. I'll just finish my lunch by going on a walk. I said bye to Ashley and her friends and got up to wander the halls. I don't know the school that well anyway, so I guess I could explore it. As I throw away my apple and walk out of the cafeteria doors some d**k runs into me with his lunch tray spilling his soup all over me.
"Here let me help you!" says the douche and he rushes to get his napkins that were left on his tray that didn't fall with the rest of his lunch.
"You know what I think I'll be fine. Watch where you're going next time." I say fixing my soup filled shirt.
"Aliza is it?"
"It's E-LIZA," I say so angry with what has happened within the last two minutes
After trying to get all the soup off of my shirt I finally look up and see it's Mason.
