McNamara left Bryony’s house only when Kerr and Grant came to escort her to the bookshop. He looked after their car until it turned onto the main street and only then he followed.
On his way to the police station, the chief inspector prepared an operational plan in his mind. He intended to start by interrogating Fergusson again, hoping that the man would weaken when faced with Dunbar’s confession.
McNamara had spoken to Jo and Mike before he had his breakfast with Bryony.
