Suddenly, the peaceful atmosphere was shattered when her stepmother banged loudly on her bedroom door. "Esther! Who is going to clean the house and prepare breakfast? Have you forgotten your responsibilities in this home?" Mrs. David shouted arrogantly. "I was just reading. I'll do it when I'm done. Besides, we have maids who can handle those chores. Why should I be the one to do everything?" Esther replied softly. "Oh, so you think I have time to listen to your nonsense?" Mrs. David snapped before landing a hard slap across Esther's face. Holding back her tears, Esther quietly left her room with her head lowered. As she walked downstairs, her stepsister blocked her path with a smug smile. "My nerdy sister, I hope my daddy has already told you that you're nothing but an illegitimate daughter. I will inherit Dominion Company, while you have absolutely nothing to your name," she said proudly. Esther forced a faint smile. "Well, my proud sister, thank you for informing me." Without waiting for another insult, she walked away and hurried to finish her household chores.
