A Sad Disclosure

329 Words
During a local holiday, Felisa visited the wet market to purchase fresh seafood and meat. While shopping, she encountered Diana's mother, who was formerly her co-worker during their teenage years. Both of them had previously worked for a prominent family of real estate owners in their hometown, and their acquaintance and conversation lasted for an extended period. Felisa reflected on their experiences working for the hacienda and expressed that they wouldn't have stayed in that line of work if they weren't in a situation of poverty. It was during this conversation that Felisa learned that Diana was her colleague's daughter, as Allen had never mentioned anything about Diana's family background. Felisa only knew that Allen and Diana were classmates in high school. During their discussion, Diana's mother confided in Felisa about her daughter's difficulties while living in Paraiso. Diana often reached out to her mother, feeling that her colleagues couldn't relate to her problems. Diana revealed to her mother about her work stress, overbearing spouse, and mental health issues. Felisa showed empathy towards Diana's situation and assured Diana's mother that she would be there for them through thick and thin. After lunch, Felisa informed Allen about what she learned about Diana from her mother. However, Allen didn't have much to say and simply responded, "Mom, I have nothing to say. I'm moving on. It's Diana's decision. It's her life." Though Felisa understood Allen's reaction, she sensed a hint of regret in her son's response. Later that night, Allen found it difficult to sleep as he was disturbed by the news regarding Diana. He was in denial but deep down, he still yearned for the woman he truly loved. He questioned himself about intervening in Diana's life since she was already married and focused on her work. Despite his internal turmoil, Allen convinced himself that he wasn't responsible for Diana's life and decided to leave things as they were. Eventually, he went to bed and slept peacefully throughout the night.
