Finally, she gathered her courage deciding she couldn’t hide forever and very quietly started downstairs. When she got within hearing range of Michael she heard his cell phone start ringing and crouched down on the stairway not wanting to interrupt. She gasped when she heard him say they had found Micah and pressed her hand over her mouth to keep herself silent.
As soon as Michael closed his cell phone, she had expected him to call to her… to tell her the good news. Something inside her died when he’d simply turned and walked out the door.
