I was excited when I got the job at the local coffee shop ‘Beanz’ until I met my coworker Leo. He’s always angry and insulting me about everything. My boss Christopher, on the other hand, is a down to earth attractive guy who likes to flirt with me. I want to stay but I’m not sure I’ll be able to put up with Leo’s bad attitude much longer. Will it be worth it to stay?

The alarm blared at me from my nightstand and I smacked it several times before it finally turned off. Rolling over I looked at the ceiling, contemplating if I really needed this job. The bills piling up on my counter said that I did. As much as I hated to do it, I forced myself out of bed. Showered and dressed, I looked myself over in the mirror. I finally had an interview after weeks of applying to every job I ran across on the job board. I paired a white blouse with a black pair of dress pants and pulled my hair back. Scowling I looked at the wrinkles on the pants . I knew I should have ironed them or at least threw them in the dryer but there was no time for that now. If I didn’t leave soon I would be late for my interview and I knew that would quickly cost me the job I so desperately needed. Once in my car, I pulled my phone out and added the directions into my maps so I could use the gps to get there. I had never actually heard of this place or been there. All that I knew was that it was a coffee shop and they were looking for a barista. I had never worked at a coffee shop but I waitressed once so I assumed it would pretty much be the same thing. Fixing someone’s morning latte couldn’t be that hard. After ten minutes and a few wrong turns (stupid redirecting gps) I pulled in front of a small strip mall. Right smack in the center was the coffee shop. I circled around trying to find a parking space and finally found one beside a beat up old Chevy. Pulling into it was an absolute nightmare. Whoever parked here obviously thought they owned the parking lot because they were halfway across the line. “Asshole” I muttered to myself as I eased my Nissan in beside it. Hopefully they wouldn’t open their door into mine and ding it. My car was one of my most favorite belongings; especially since it was paid off. Flipping down my mirror, I checked my makeup one last time and finally exited the car. After five steps I tripped up over the curb and almost face planted. I knew I should’ve worn flats but heels always seemed to be what people wore in the movies when they landed the job so I thought maybe luck would be on my side. Of course that wouldn’t be true if I broke my neck before I even got inside the building. Looking around to make sure no one had seen my near death experience, I straightened myself back up and started once more for the coffee shop. Standing back from it I soaked it in. It was a quaint little setup with brown bricks and big glass windows. Right across the top was a huge red glowing neon sign that proudly proclaimed Beanz alongside a coffee cup. It didn’t flash like I expected but there was steam that would rise out of the coffee cup before disappearing and starting all over again. I nodded. This seemed like a cute little place to work. I hadn’t even stepped inside yet and already it felt like it would be casual and laid back. I mean, who would set up a cup like that and name their shop Beanz if they didn’t have a decent sense of humor? Finally I stepped inside so I could find out.
