"Hello Maria", he greeted my mom, his smile revealing two sharp fangs. For such a horrifying creature, its voice was quite soft.

"What is that?", I asked my mom, unconsciously taking a step back.

My mom exhaled heavily. "A Vampyre"

"A WHAT?!", I shrieked. "Vampyres don't exist mom, they're myths. Made up stories to scare kids"

" No dear, that is a Vampyre. They're not myths, they really exist, they've been around for thousand of years".

"What is a Vampyre doing here in our house, in my room and how does it know your name?" I was shaking now.

"I don't know", she whispered. "They shouldn't have found us so soon"

"But we did", the Vampyre chuckled. " At least I did, the rest don't know I've found you....yet".

Maisie, a sixteen years old girl who lived a normal life and believed myths were just that-myths until her mom is sucked dry by a Vampyre in front of her.

She is rescued by weird-looking bulky men and taken to a Vampyre Hunting Academy where she is trained to hunt down and kill vampyres.

She swears to avenge her mom no matter what it takes but things start to go down the drain when she finds out she is not who she thought she was and there was a lot more to the Academy than she thought. Things become more complicated when a new student, Astor Albrecht who happens to be a Dhampyre pure-blood, joins the them.

BOOK ONE
CHAPTER ONE My Mom rushed out, dragging me by my arm. "Thanks for bringing her home", she called out to Jason, a friend of mine, who I went out on a date with and shut the gate in his face. "Is something wrong mom?, What's the rush?" "They're coming, we need to hurry before they get here, before they get to you, hurry up" she said while pushing me towards my room. "Who's coming mom? And what do they want with me?" "We don't have time for that, I'll tell you on the way". She brought out my suitcase from my wardrobe and dumped it on my bed. She brought out my clothes and started dumping them into the box. I stood staring at her in shock wondering what the hell was going on. I've never seen my mom look so shaken before. Her usually flushed face looked so pale, it was like staring into a mirror. "We need to find them, they'll be able to protect us, as long as we're with them nothing will go wrong, they should be here soon", my mom uttered under her breath. "Mom?", I held her arms to calm her down. " Tell me what's going on, at least give me a summary, I'm confused and worried. Look at how you're shaking mom. Who are those coming and who's them that's going to protect us and what exactly do we need protection from?!, Talk to me mom!!" She sighed softly and sat down on my bed, her hands folded between her thighs. "Maisie there's so much going on and so little time to explain. I wish I had told you all this earlier but you have to understand I was trying to protect you, to protect you from.....the reality of things" "Protect me from what?", I asked, my voice barely above a whisper. "The......". Before she could continue, there was a sound of a crash from the window. My mom stood up hurriedly and we both turned to stare at what made the sound. What I saw horrified me. I couldn't tell if it was human. Its skin was so sickly, it looked like it might crumble at any time. Its skin so pale, I looked tan beside it. Its eyes were so black, it was like staring into an abyss. "Hello Maria", he greeted my mom, his smile revealing two sharp fangs. For such a horrifying creature, its voice was quite soft. "What is that?", I asked my mom, unconsciously taking a step back. My mom exhaled heavily. "A Vampyre" "A WHAT?!", I shrieked. "Vampyres don't exist mom, they're myths. Made up stories to scare kids" " No dear, that is a Vampyre. They're not myths, they really exist, they've been around for thousand of years". "What is a Vampyre doing here in our house, in my room and how does it know your name?" I was shaking now. "I don't know", she whispered. "They shouldn't have found us so soon" "But we did", the Vampyre chuckled. " At least I did, the rest don't know I've found you....yet". He smiled broadly but it looked more like a grimace than a smile. "Maisie", my mom turned to me. "You need to get out of here before the rest come, find them, they'll protect you, they'll take you to a safe place where the rest of the vampyres can't get you". " What about you?" She smiled softly. " My lovely Maisie, your life is more important than mine. I'm disposable, you're not. If they get their hands on you.... I...I don't even want to imagine what they'll do to you. As your mother my duty is to protect you even if it means sacrificing myself in the process. I won't let any harm come to you. You are my life Maisie. If anything happens to you I'll never forgive myself so you need to survive okay?, For me". She placed her hand on my cheek and used her thumb to wipe away the tears from my cheek. I hadn't even realized I was crying. "No mom, I can't leave you....I won't leave you". My voice broke. " You have to, you...". The Vampyre was suddenly standing so close to us. One minute he was standing by the window, the next he was directly in front of us. His speed shocked me so much I unconsciously took another step back. He stretched out his hand and wrapped his fingers around my mom's neck, lifting her off her feet. "Marie, he misses you know. He thinks about you everyday, its become a daily torment for him". The Vampyre smirked and moved his face towards my mom's throat. "No!!" I yelled and moved forward, pounding my fists on the vampyre's chest. His body was so hard it was like hitting a rock. "Let her go, you monster, let her go!", I screamed. He didn't even flinch, didn't even act like he was being hit. He stretched out his other hand and without looking at me, smacked me across the room. I hit my head on the wall, my vision getting blurred. "NO!", My mom croaked out. "Run Maisie, f...fi... find them, they'll protect you. G...get out of here". I shook my head slowly trying to shake away the dizziness. I looked up and saw the Vampyre slowly sink his fangs into my mom's throat and draw out blood. "No, please stop", I begged. I tried getting up but I was so dizzy I fell back down. My mom stared at me with a smile on her face, her flushed skin starting to look pale. "Go" , she mouthed. "I'll always love you Maisie". Those were her last words as she was sucked dry of her blood before being dumped on the floor. I watched in horror as my mother's body slowly crumpled to the floor. I couldn't believe how weak I was. My mom was being murdered and all I did was stare in horror, my mouth gaping open. I hated myself, I hated how I couldn't save my mom, hated how afraid I was. I got up, swaying a little in the process. My mom told me to run, told me to find them- whoever they are- and survive and that's exactly what I was going to do. I was going to get out of here alive but not without killing the smiling Vampyre; it's the least I could do for my mom. I was so caught up in my thoughts, I hadn't noticed the change in the Vampyre. His skin looked less pale and his eyes were no longer completely black; there was a tint of gold in it. I realized that it was the blood, my mother's blood that brought that change. I growled in anger. "There, there now child, I didn't mean to do things that way, I planned to be a little subtle but I was awfully thirsty, haven't fed in a while you see". He said smiling, revealing his blood stained teeth. I turned to the door, calculating the distance between were I stood to the door. The Vampyre was fast, outrunning him would be difficult but I had to try, for my mom. I forced myself not to glance at her body, focusing on the Vampyre and the door. "Escaping is futile child so don't even try". " How do.. did you know my mom, she never mentioned anything about vampyres, until today at least". The Vampyre sighed and slowly shook his head. "There's a lot you don't know child, it's a pity your mom left you in the dark.... But it's not my place to say" he paused and sniffed the air, taking a step towards me. "What the hell are you?!!", He growled angrily. I was too focused on trying to escape to think his question through. He sighed heavily. "Seems like I won't get the pleasure of feeding on you". He stared at me intently, "the Lord will probably figure out what you are and why you have such a scent. Seems like your mom kept some details to herself. "Now we're either going to do this the easy way or the hard way, your pick". I ran to the door and hurriedly threw it open. He sighed softly, "guess it's the hard way then". Before I could run down the stairs, something hard bumped into me from the back and I flew down the stairs, hitting my head on the bottom of the staircase and knocking the breath out of me. I felt awfully dizzy but I knew if I passed out, I would wake up to find myself in another place entirely and I couldn't let that happen. I forced my eyes to open and stood up, the ground shifting under me- at least that's how it felt like-. I raised my head and suddenly the Vampyre was standing right in front of me, his face mere inches from mine. He stretched out his hand and wrapped his fingers around my neck, flinging me across the room. I toppled over the couch and landed on my side, cracking my ribs in the process. I yelped in pain, willing the dizziness to go away. I knew this was it, I wasn't going to survive. It was either I got sucked dry by the Vampyre or died from the excruciating pain. But I needed to fight, I needed to survive. I couldn't be weak. I needed to avenge my mom's death, I couldn't let her death be in vain. I've never been one to read about myths but I tried to remember whatever I could about vampyres, how they could be killed. I remembered fire but that'll be too risky, I tried going over the little I knew but I came up blank. I stood up and glared at him. He shook his head and sighed, you wouldn't give up that easily huh?, Guess I'll just have to render you unconscious, you're just like your mother by the way, she never seemed to know when to call it quits". My gaze swept over the kitchen door and I suddenly remembered another thing that could kill a Vampyre, silver. My kitchen was so full of silverware, I would have no problem getting one but the only problem was outrunning him, he was too fast for me but I was going to try and I was going to end this. I ran towards the kitchen, the Vampyre moving after me.
