Chapter Four

1501 Words
I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE SURROUNDED BY VAMPYRES. There were about twenty of them looking at me hungrily. I tried running away but my feet were stuck to the ground and I couldn't move, the vampyres were gaining on me slowly probably because they knew I was stuck and couldn't move. Then all of a sudden, one of them jumped at me; baring its fangs, its claws jutting out and sunk its teeth into my neck. I woke up with a start, sweat pooling on my forehead. I wiped it off and took a deep breath. I couldn't remember the last time I had a nightmare-probably when I was four- but I haven't had a nightmare since then up until now. It was past seven in the morning so I got up to go have my bath; I decided to use the bath tub this time around, I needed a good soak to clear my head. A lot of things went through my head while I was in the tub. Where my mom's body was, the kind of burial befitting of her status, whether I'll make friends or not since I'll probably never see the ones back home again; I missed Lena so much and I couldn't seem to forget the kiss I had with Jason; I didn't even get to say goodbye. I wiped the tears away. I promised to try my best to keep my mom's legacy, I swore to be the baddest, strongest girl here, I'm going to make my mom proud and hunt down every Vampyre till there's none left. They'll all pay for what that Vampyre did to my mom. I won't let another person lose someone to those filthy blood suckers. I tied my hair up into a ponytail- I should probably get it dyed since it draws too much attention to me, maybe I'll dye it black; that seems like a perfect color at least it won't reflect the sun- and dressed up in a knee-length jeans and a black top. I went to the living room and sat on one of the sofas awaiting the arrival of Royce. Royce came in dressed in a tank top and work out pants. "Am I under dressed?", I asked staring down at my clothes. "Why the question?", He asked while leading me out the door. "Well you're wearing a tank top with work out pants and I'm dressed in jeans and a black top, it doesn't look appropriate for training compared to yours". "Oh, you start your training tomorrow, today is for touring and making new friends and also getting yourself familiarized with this place". "Oh, that's cool I guess". "The burial of your mom has been prepared, she'll be buried at noon, that's, according to the old time, three o'clock in the afternoon if that's okay with you". "It's fine", I said, my voice turning hoarse. "I'm so sorry about your mom Maisie, I should have arrived earlier- I wish I had-, she was one of a kind if not the best, she....she was my everything", Royce said, his voice breaking. "None of this is your fault Royce and I doubt my mom would want you to beat yourself up for it, she might not have told me about you but she probably felt the same way. You're doing a great favor for her by taking care of me and I'm very grateful for that". I smiled and gave Royce a tight hug while he chuckled affectionately". "We should hurry so you can make it in time for the burial". Then we walked on in silence. Royce showed me the classrooms were normal classes were taken; the gym and training room. "Starting from tomorrow you'll be training here 8hours a day from Mondays to Saturdays", said Royce when we got to the training room. "8hours?!!", I exclaimed. He nodded "You're behind your class Maisie, you have to meet up before the end of the semester". I sighed and nodded. "You'll spend two hours per day in the gym and the remaining six hours would be used to teach you defense moves. When your body is well conditioned we'll start with sword fighting". "Sword fighting?" "Yes, tomorrow I'll tell you all you need to know but right now I'm needed somewhere urgently. Go make friends, have a little fun and I'll come pick you up for your mom's burial". I nodded in response and walked towards the class area while Royce left for wherever he was needed. "Is it true you killed a Vampyre?", A voice asked me. I glanced up since my head was bent down to look at who had spoken. It was a boy with dark brown hair. He was about five foot seven and towered over me since I was five foot three. He was lean and had dents on both cheeks to show he had dimples. And he was quite gorgeous; he had brown eyes and his skin was tanned with scars here and there. "Yes, how did you know?" "News travel around here fast, anyways, I'm Dave" he stretched out his hand for a handshake. I took his hand in mine and shook it, his palm was rough like sandpaper. "I'm Maisie" "A lovely name for a beautiful girl", Dave said with a smirk, revealing one side of his dimples. I turned scarlet at his compliment. "You're quite pale though" "And you're quite tan". My reply earned me a laugh from him and I swear I could hear him laugh all day and not get tired. He took my hand in his and led me towards the dorm. "Let me introduce you to the rest. He took me to a common room filled with kids my age. There were about seven in the room; three boys four girls. "Hello y'all, meet the Vampyre killer, Maisie", Dave called out to them and I blushed. "It was just one Vampyre, there's nothing special about that". A girl with auburn hair said, she reminded me of Lena without the b***h attitude. "And how many have you killed?", I asked with a smirk on my face. Yeah I kind be mean too. I was surrounded by mean girls in my previous school and I knew how to handle them. She scoffed and turned away. "Nice" , Dave said and chuckled. "I like her already", a boy with blonde hair and blue eyes said and I smiled at him. "That's Chris", Dave pointed to the guy that just spoke. "That's Sophie", he said pointing to the girl with Auburn hair. " That's Matt and Harry". He pointed towards a short guy with grey eyes and dark hair and a guy with green hair and brown eyes. "That's Kate, Luna and Edna". The first had a dark bob hair, the second had blonde hair that was tied in a ponytail like mine while the third had blue short wavy hair. "Hi", I said with a wave. "Welcome to the Vampyre hunting academy Maisie", Harry said with a tap on my shoulder. "Thanks", I said and sat on one of the sofas beside Dave. "So tell us how you killed the Vampyre", Luna said with a glint in her eyes. "Yeah tell us", Matt added "There's really nothing special about it", I said and wriggled my fingers. Sophie scoffed and said " told you so" "You know what I'm actually going to say it". I told them all that happened. How the Vampyre had fed on my mom and killed her in the process and how I used the sharp edge of a broken silverware to kill it. "Wow!, That's so cool", Kate said and looked at me in awe. "I can't believe you killed a Vampyre that had just fed, they're usually quite strong after feeding, at least that's what we were told", Harry said. "He was quite strong, he flung me around like a rag doll, it was not a fun experience" I said and they all laughed. "I'm so sorry to hear about your mom", Dave said and rubbed my shoulder. "Thanks" "We can come with you for your mom's burial if you don't mind", Matt said with sympathy in his voice. "I'm not going anywhere", Sophie yelled "No one asked you to", Edna said with a scoff. Sophie stood up and walked out angrily, slamming the door in the process. "Don't mind her, she's just jealous" Luna said and I shrugged. "I don't mind you guys coming, it'll be nice to have friends around... We're friends right?", I asked "Of course we are", Dave said with a smile and they all nodded. "Thanks" "You have lovely eyes", Harry said and blushed. "And lovely hair", Kate added. "And really pale skin like snow white", Edna said and we all laughed. My first day at Vampyre Hunting Academy went better than I thought. Made new friends and probably a new enemy too; life here was going to be great or so I thought.
