Chapter 2: Her

1603 Words
*Jason Pov     The boys in the packhouse have been throwing parties at the packhouse every weekend. Now that they are old enough to find their mate, they think inviting every girl in town will make it easier for them. I have been 18 for a few months now but still haven't found her. Ha, I say what they are doing is stupid and pointless, but I have been going to every party hoping she is there; when I don't find her, I end up getting frustrated and hooking up with the first girl that comes and flaunts herself at me. I'm not going to lie; I am getting irritated that I haven't found her yet; I know it can take time, but I also know some wolves that never found their mates. Sometimes your mate can die before you see each other, but that is pretty rare. I want to find her and officially take over as Alpha.      My father has all but put me in charge of the pack. He wants to make it official when I have found her and completed the mating bond, and it's a tradition in our pack. My father says I won't know true strength until I have my other half by my side. That said, I have been so busy with pack stuff I haven't been at school the last few weeks. I told my father I wanted to take a step back from some duties until I find my mate and finish off this semester. He understood, and as of this week, I am back to school full time.      I finally caught up to my beta and his mate on their walk to school, we all have cars, but they said walking lets you have time to connect with the universe. Hayden talks for he wants to screw around on the way to school; most of the time,, they don't rock up until lunch.      "Oh hey, Alpha! Isn't today a great day for a walk?" I just rolled my eyes and pushed him forward. "Yea,, yea, you know you sound like a hippie when you talk like that."     "What's wrong with that? Hippies are one with the earth and have good karma!" I turn my head to see Claire laughing so hard she's crying, and they compliment each other. She's the only one that finds his stupid jokes funny. Although I think she might be exaggerating on this one.     "Sorry! I just pictured him having long hair down to his ass sitting in the grass meditating for world peace or something! Hahaha, I don't know why I find that so funny!!"  I couldn't help but laugh beside her, and Claire has this uncanny ability to change your mood. She's just a good people person, not like super wolf powers or anything (I think).     "Have you heard that the boys are having another party tonight? I think this is number 8 in the span of the last three weeks. Do we need to have a chat with them?" He's got the point. As much as I support them trying to use this to help them find their mates, I think it's time to tell them to cool it for a little while. We don't the packhouse being destroyed. My father would most likely kill them. "Yea, tell them I said they can have their party tonight since I'm sure they have already sent out their invites etc, but after this one, they are to cool it for a few months. They need to get back on top of training." Hayden and Claire nod in my direction as we arrive at the steps to the school entrance. As soon as we enter the school building, my feet stop. Something made me freeze, I begin to sniff the air trying to find out where this scent is coming from. It's intoxicating. Does it smell like strawberries and wood? Like when you run through the Forrest after a nice rain, making everything smell sweet and pure.      I whip my head back and forth, my wolf going wild and growling inside. I know what this smell is. It's her, my mate.     "Jason? What's the matter?"     "I smell something. I don't know where it is coming from." Hayden looked confused next to me, trying to figure out what I am smelling. I start walking forward, each step getting closer and closer to the source of the scent. "Jason, I don't smell anything. What is it? An enemy?" "My Mate." He just stood there stunned while I kept marching towards it. Finally, I turn the corner, and there she is.  She is the very definition of perfection. She was standing at her locker with headphones in her ears. Her hair is a strawberry orange colour that falls perfectly down her back, landing just above her ass. Her eyes look like a beautiful crystal blue from a distance. My wolf is going wild, and it's getting hard to contain him.  'Now is not the time to let you have control. Not with all these people around.' Trying to soothe him when he doesn't get his way is never easy. But he seems to understand the urgency in my voice.          Just as I take a step forward to approach her, the bell rings, and she walks into the classroom right next to her locker. I run after her hoping to catch her before she stepped inside. I grab the door just as it closes shut. I reach for the handle when I feel a hand on my shoulder. It's Mrs Clark, it must be her class.      "Can I help you with something, Alpha?" "I just need to speak with one of the students in your class."     She arks her eyebrow while tilting her head off to the side, giving me a small smile.  "I'm sorry, Jason, but you and your father told me to treat you like any other student while you are here. And if you don't have my class, then you will have to catch whichever lucky young lady you have your eyes on after class." She's right. I can't pull my Alpha card here. It wouldn't look good. For my father or me. I give her a nod and slowly start walking to my first class.  * It's been half the day, and I haven't been able to find her since this morning. I smell her everywhere, but every time I think I have caught up to her, she was gone. The bell for lunch rang a few minutes ago, but I can't see Hayden or Clarie anywhere.      SLAP. "Hey, Alpha!" Hayden is the only one dumb enough and fearless enough to slap me whenever he thinks he can sneak up on me. But it usually follows up with Clarie hitting him. But I can't see her anywhere.      "Where's Claire?"      "She went to see if she could find any information on your mystery, Mate. No offence, but you're driving us crazy with your mind linking all day. 'Why can't I find her? Where is she?' So she sees if she can help."     And speaking of the devil is walking over to us as we speak.     "Hey, babe. Any luck?" She shook her head, looking disappointed. "No. All anyone knows is that she is new here and in Minnesota. Nobody even knows her name. And the office wouldn't give me anything because it's all confidential blah blah blah." I was just about to thank her for trying, but before I could get any words out, I see her. I start walking as fast as I could so I don't lose her again. I feel like I'm practically running, but I don't care. I want her! No, I need her. Finally, I'm only a few inches away from her now, but she doesn't seem to see me. A couple of seconds later, she walks straight into my chest, falling onto the floor. I tried to catch her, but I feel that may have made things worse as her stuff is scattered on the floor. I look down at her as she starts rubbing her face and ass at the same time.     She looks up at me with the most beautiful half-smile and says, "Um, sorry. I didn't see you there." She sounds like an angel. Her voice is soft-spoken and sweet. "What's your name?" "My name is Lila." She starts to blush, and her voice comes out almost like a whisper. I slightly bend down and extend my hand out to her to help her to her feet. As soon as we touch, my whole body feels like it's on fire from her touch. Sending tingles throughout my body. Before I could say anything else, she rips her hand out of mine and hurriedly starts to pick her stuff off the floor. "Um, thanks. I've got to get going. Sorry again."          As soon as she has all her stuff, she rushes for the entrance of the school. I don't even think my body moves on its own, trying to catch her before she disappears again. I finally catch up to her outside the building and manage to grab hold of her arm and wrap mine around hers. I bend my head down to inhale the  scent from her hair,  I could feel her struggle to get out of my arms. It just makes me want to hold on to her tighter and never let go. I could feel myself slipping and my wolf taking control. Before I could reign him back in, he manages to take over just enough to say "Mine."
