We made small talk while waiting for our food, and when it arrived, the conversation stopped so we could eat. The food is so delicious I can’t even describe it. As we finish up, he stares at me with a sparkle in his eye.
“Are you ready for the next part of the surprise?” He asks, and I can tell his watching me curiously.
“There’s more? This place was amazing. I figured this was the surprise!” I tell him while keeping my guard up.
“Yes, there is more. There is a lot more, but one I want to do with you tonight before I take you back home. Are you up for it?” I can tell he has big plans for us. He’s got this giant grin, and his eyes are sparkling. I stare at him for a moment and realize the lapis part of his eyes is growing.
“Before I answer, I have a question for you. Your eyes, they’re the only ones I have ever seen besides mine that have a weird spot of lapis blue in them. Yours, however, don’t stay one size. The spot seems to grow randomly. Why?” I caught him off guard because he rubbed his eyes and flagged down the waitress. She brings the check over, and he pays the bill.
“That is a question I have never gotten before. You are the only person I have met with the same color in their eyes. I don’t know why or how they do that either.” He seems to be hiding something, but I let it go. After all, it is only the second time we have hung out and the first time we are both coherent. Everyone has their secrets, and it’s probably too soon, but I hope we can trust each other enough to open up about them.
We get back into the car, and he starts driving again. I stare out the window and space out for I don’t know how long.
“We’re here, beautiful.” His voice pulled me out of wherever I was. He called me beautiful. My face is red; I can feel it, but hopefully, it’s dark enough that he can’t see it. “Someone’s a little red in the face, was someone daydreaming about me?”
“No, I was just spacing out. I do that sometimes. I just think, and then boom, I’m in my own little world.” I tell the truth only because, well, it’s the truth. Plus, I don’t want him to get a big ego. He walks around to my side of the car and opens the door. We walk down a dirt path, and when we get to the trail's end, there is the most beautiful sight. A waterfall drops down into a river and flows softly towards who knows where. He pulls me towards a giant rock that looks incredibly fake or like it was put there. Sitting down, I start looking around and get completely mesmerized by the whole place. “This place is beautiful, do bring all the girls here?”
“I only really come here alone. You’re the only one I’ve ever brought here. You stood out as special to me. I decided you would be the first person I would bring here. Something about you just stands out to me, and I don’t know what it is.” He’s staring at the stars in the sky, so I can’t tell what he means by that. Sitting on the rock with him is oddly very comforting. We sit there and just talk for a couple hours just star gazing and talking about life.
