In The Meantime

I didn’t realize I had fallen asleep until I woke up. It’s midnight, and I know I will not be able to fall back asleep anytime soon. I look at my phone and realize I never texted Michael back. Michael, I would like to see you again as I don’t remember much from the bar. Would lunch be okay? I don’t work today. Sent. I don’t understand why I feel so nervous about his response, which doesn’t take long. That sounds great. Where do you want to meet? Ugh, why does he have to be so courteous? So far, he seems like a perfect gentleman. Um, you pick. I am very indecisive. I regretted that text as soon as I sent it. I wonder what he’s going to pick. He doesn’t respond right away, but deep down, I’m okay with it. I hope he doesn’t respond till tomorrow, so I can try to go back to sleep. Ding! What if I pick you up and just surprise you? Text me your address and be ready at 2 pm. What have I just gotten myself into? I text him my address and turn the ringer off on my phone. Beep! Beep! Beep! That stupid alarm. While I’m thinking about it, I am just going to change the sound of it. Looking at my phone, I see that it is 10 am. I have four hours till Michael is here. Oh, shoot! I need to tell Brina! I throw a sweatshirt on and race out of my room. Luckily for me, she is on the couch watching some show I’ve never heard of or seen before. She doesn’t see me when I enter the living room, so I tiptoe behind the couch and attempt to scare her. I laugh as she starts screaming. “Skyler! What the f**k dude? That’s not cool!” She screams at me. “Well, I figured you’d want to know that I took your advice, and Michael is picking me up at two today. He said he was going to surprise me for lunch.” I nervously tell her. She starts smiling and hops up to hug me. “Do you know what you’re going to wear?” She questions with a smirk hanging on her lips. Crap, I have no idea! I didn’t think that far ahead. Judging by the grin on her face, she can tell I have nothing to wear. “Good thing you have an amazing friend who is your roommate! I think I have something in my closet that might be just the thing.” She pulls me to her room, and I explain that I don’t know where we’re going, so it’s hard to find something to wear. Ignoring me, she pulls me to her bed, and I sit down. Once she comes out of her closet, I know I’m in for a long ride because her arms are full of clothes. She walks over to me and asks if I know what outfit I want to wear. “I’m not wearing a dress or skirts if that's what you’re asking,” I tell her as she sets things down on the bed next to me. She then removes the dresses and skirts, leaving the abundance of pants, shorts, tops, and a couple of accessories on the bed. Sifting through the clothes, there’s a top that grabs my attention. A one-shoulder, black top with electic blue wolves running across it. I pick it out and set it to the side and continue searching for some pants to go with it. It’s October, so the weather is starting to get chilly, so I opted out of wearing shorts. Sabrina throws a pair of ripped black skinny jeans at me and tells me they will go well with the shirt she saw me pick out. “What about shoes? Do you have any that will go well with that outfit? I have some boots that I think would look good with it,” She asks as she walks back into her closet with the rest of the clothes. She returns with a pair of boots with a three-inch heel on them that look amazing. “I think these will look amazing on you,” she says as she hands the boots to me. “Go try everything on, I want to see what it looks like on you!” She squeals and pushes me all the way to my room. I close the door to my room so I can change and start peeling my clothes off to change, when a text lights up my phone screen. Are you ready for today? I’ll be on my way soon. After reading the message I check the time, one pm. Jesus christ where did the time go? I didn’t realize it took us that long to find me an outfit. With that realization, I start putting on the clothes I picked out and stand in front of my wall length mirror admiring everything about the outfit. I fidget with my hair and decide on putting it into a side braid. Walking over to my vanity I try to think of what color eyeshadow I want to wear. One thing about me is that I have some pretty pale skin and dark hair. My eyes are emerald green with this weird hint of lapis blue. I decide on a smokey eye kind of look because its on of the simplest things I can do with such little time, a nude lipstick and a little bit of blush. I look at my phone, not realizing I had a text message. I am five minutes away. See you soon.
