Tomorrow. Tomorrow,he will take his rightful place as the Alpha of the Blackwood pack. Tomorrow he will become one of the most powerful leaders in Nyx Haven city. But tonight,he was just a man,one who was suffocating under the weight of responsibilities,legacy and expectations of the entire kingdom. His father, the late Alpha Lyon Blackwood, had ruled with an iron fist. To him strength was everything,Mercy was weakness and Love was a dangerous liability. He hoped to be like his father. Damien had been raised with strict principles seared into his soul. A mate bond was a distraction. Love made Alpha weak. He didn't want to have a mate to fall in love with,he would just have a mate to fulfill his responsibilities as an Alpha with and to also give the Blackwood pack an heir. He exhaled deeply,shoving those thoughts aside. Tonight,he needed an escape. “You're too stiff,Damien,you should have some fun,let loose,” His brother,Callum's voice,rang in his head again. Callum was the carefree one and he was uptight. But Callum was right,he needed to let loose before his Alpha ascension ceremony the next day. Tonight he was going to take a stroll in the human world. __________ The human world was vastly different from Nyx Haven. It was louder,filled with people who were unaware of the supernatural creatures just living beyond their borders. Damien walked into a dimly lit bar,blending effortlessly into the crowd. His silver eyes which would have made him stand out he had hidden it completely with a contact lens and here no one bowed to him in submission,no one called him Alpha. To everyone,he was just another man looking to buy a drink or more. Then he saw her,she sat alone at the bar nursing a drink. Her delicate fingers tracing the rim of her glass. Her dark brown hair cascaded down her back in waves. When she turned ,her emerald green eyes met his. She was marvelous. He found himself moving before he could stop and then he was at her side. “Mind if I join you?” he asked, his voice smooth. She glanced at him and then motioned for him to sit. Good. He ordered a glass of margarita after taking his seat beside her. She gulped down her glass of piña colada and asked for a refill from the bartender without talking. Why wasn't she talking? He wanted to start a conversation with her to get to know her. He tried looking at her again and her expression was blank. How could a mere human make me feel this way? He thought to himself. But he wasn't giving up,tonight,he was going to have all the fun he missed out on prepping on being an Alpha. “I'm Derek” He lied. He didn't know why but once when they were young and he and Callum snuck into the human world,he had lied about his name thinking people would recognize him as the heir of the Blackwood pack. But Callum has assured him no one knew him here. And now he has lied again, without thinking. “Serena” She finally said,her voice the most beautiful he had heard. Thank Lycaon, she talks. “Let me guess why you're here,” he continued. “Boyfriend issues?” He got a nod. “No? Sister getting on your nerves?” He got another nod then a smile. “No. Dad,” she answered. There was a short silence. “You don't mind me asking what's wrong?” “I do,actually. Do you have a habit of approaching strangers in bars and asking them what issues they have?” Serena asked. “No,only when they catch my attention” “And what exactly about me caught your attention?” She asked. He could have said a dozen things. Her hair. Her eyes. Her voice. Her smile. But instead he said “Everything” Serena held his gaze for a long moment, something unreadable flickering behind her emerald green eyes. He was so sure she was doubting whether to talk to him or not. “Okay. Since we aren't going to meet any longer I think I should tell you. My father is an ass” She was right. They weren't going to meet again. She was human and he was a werewolf. After today he would be too occupied being an Alpha to visit the human world again. “Is he?” He asked. “He's too overprotective. He won't let me go out and see the world. He has always shielded me from the world” If I had a daughter as beautiful as this,I would want to protect her too. He thought to himself. “The world can be a dangerous place,love. People get greedy and wicked, I'm sure he's protecting you from people not the world” He said. “Well I don't want to be protected. I want to see the world,I want to explore” She continued gulping down her drink. “Okay,I agree. You father is an ass” He said and they both laughed. “He should let you see the world” They both sat down in silence wondering what next. Damien couldn't resist it,he wanted her. He wanted to have this woman for tonight and he knew she wanted him too. “Serena,” He called. “Yeah” She answered softly. “Do you want to get out of here? I will take you exploring,” he concluded. And she smiled knowing what he meant. “Sure” He tossed some cash on the bar and he and Serena moved out of the bar hand in hand. They both checked into the royal suite of the Nile Hotel. The room was beautiful with designs in it. The bed was large and well laid. After they had both freshened up and eaten,they sat on the bed talking the night away. Damien really enjoyed her company and he wished it would last forever but he knew it would not. By Tomorrow he would be back in Nyx Haven,for his Alpha Ascension ceremony and he would have so many responsibilities and forget all about her soon. He leaned closer to her waiting for her approval. She smiled and he kissed her. This was what he had wanted all night. His finger traced a slow path down her arm,his touch deliberate as if memorizing every inch of her body. He felt her shudder under his touch and then pulled away. “This is a bad idea,” she said. “Probably” Damien said,his lips brushing the corner of her mouth. “Tell me to stop if it's getting too much” He waited a moment and when she didn't say anything he went in for another kiss. And that night,they both let themselves get lost. Damien stirred as the first ray of sunlight filtered into the hotel room. The room smelled of vanilla and sunflowers. He quickly reached across the bed searching for the woman he had spent the past hours with but it was empty. He sat up scanning the room for her,her clothes were gone,her bag and there was no trace of her in the room except for her perfume. He tried to get it off his mind. This was for the best. She was better off gone and they probably wouldn't meet again fo r the rest of their lives. For now he had to get ready for his Ascension ceremony and return to Nyx Haven.
