CHAPTER FOUR: VIVIENNE

1229 Words
The walls of her bedroom were a soft blush pink, velvet curtains spilling like melted rose over tall windows that framed the dusk skyline. From her balcony, Vivienne could see the sprawling estate gardens, trimmed to perfection—like everything in her life was supposed to be. Perfect. She sat at her vanity, fingers curled tightly around a pink hair brush as she stared at her reflection. She was beautiful no doubt. Her golden hair was flawless. Her lips painted with a red lip gloss, and her makeup splendid. No man would see her and turn her down. “Did you see her face?” Carrie asked. Carrie was her friend. She had shown up that morning in her room again as she has always done. “In front of the entire Nyx Haven, she was rejected. Pathetic” Carrie said her voice laced with satisfaction. But Vivienne was in no mood for a conversation,a billion thoughts were running through her mind. “Imagine being in your mansion your whole life and the day people finally recognize you,you are the mate of a powerful werewolf. It's unfair. I'm sure she has no idea how to even be a Luna. What could she have learned being locked up every time” Carrie continued. “I love how she was rejected publicly,Luna my ass. She thinks she's better than everyone not coming out of her mansion or because her father is Alpha Kade” Carrie continued. Vivienne didn't give her any reply. She needed to get her head together. “You should be Luna of the Blackwood pack,” Carrie said, finally gaining Vivienne's attention. “Yes. You're fit to be Luna, not some stuck up girl who doesn't leave her mansion. Look at you, you're beautiful, intelligent, stylish and you know everything about being a Luna. Your Father being an Ally to the Blackwood pack makes it a plus. Don't you think so?” Carrie was finally speaking her mind. She should be Luna. She should've been the one Damien scented. Why her? Why Serena Vale of all people? All her life she had always wanted to be Luna. To be in a position of power,to give orders,to be bowed to. To be above others. She was the daughter of the Alpha of the Hawthorne pack but that wasn't enough because Hawthorne was part of the smallest packs in Nyx Haven. She wanted something bigger and better. To have the most powerful and biggest pack. She wanted to be Luna of the Blackwood pack. She wanted Damien. Vivienne's lips twitched, she set the hairbrush down rising slowly to pace the room. “You're right. I should be Luna. I should be standing by his side, not that Vale girl. I've been preparing to be Luna all my life” Vivienne finally said. “I see it. Everyone sees it. You should be Luna. Vivi. You and Damien? You make sense. That girl…she's just a daughter of an enemy. That's all she is and that's all she will ever be” “You're right Carrie. Now is the time I can make Damien mine. He just became the Alpha. He need a Luna by his side and I fit the role perfectly” Vivienne rushed to her closet searching through rows of designer gowns and sleek business wears, but today she wanted something simpler. More delicate. She reached for a pale yellow sundress,a rare softness in her wardrobe. The fabric was light and innocent. She wore it and smiled satisfactorily at how she looked in the mirror. She carried a white bag to match and wore her heels. “Where are you going?” Carrie asked. “To pay Damien a visit” The scent of pine and power hit her the moment she crossed into Blackwood territory. Vivienne stepped out of the sleek black car, her heels clicking against the stone-paved drive leading to the main packhouse. Her father was already inside, no doubt whispering strategies into Damien’s ear, pushing the Hawthorne name into every crevice of Blackwood power. Her yellow sundress flared around her thigh as she walked, eyes sharp, back straight. Every warrior at the door dipped their heads. She didn't miss how some of them stole glances at her. She was used to it. Attracting attention. Being the most beautiful woman in the room. Inside the mansion, warmth wrapped around her like an unwanted second skin. The mansion was beautiful. She headed straight to the Alpha’s war room where she suspected her father would be. It was where the Alphas of the Blackwood pack that held meetings with their councils and Allies. She found her father–Lancelot Hawthorne there surrounded by beta-level advisors. Some faces she recognized and some she didn't. Her father raised her brow when he saw her. “Vivienne,” he said. “What are you doing here?” "I wanted to be involved," she replied smoothly, pressing a kiss to his cheek. "We can’t let the pack forget who’s always been loyal." “Still you can't be here. There are no females in this room. The only female allowed in here is Luna” Lancelot said. “Well,I will soon be that won't I?” She said softly so only her father would hear her. “What are you talking about?” Lancelot said but before she got a chance to reply,Damien walked into the room, making everyone stand to acknowledge him. He motioned for them to sit and Vivienne rushed to his side. “Damien,” she said, her voice smooth like silk. “ You look great” His jaw tightened. “Vivienne,I didn't expect to see you here” “I wanted to offer my support to the pack. And to you” she said. “Well, you can do that from the Hawthorne estate, only Lunas are allowed in this room, you should know that,” Damien said, his expression blank. “I'm so sorry,I should have known better,” She said, feigning innocence. “It's fine” “You know,I was here yesterday. And I think what you did was right. You need someone better as your mate, someone who can handle the Luna position well. Not someone who stays in her mansion all day. I'm sure she doesn't know a thing about being a Luna, you need someone more powerful” Vivienne said and she received a glare from Damien. “I'm just saying, your Luna should elevate you,not weaken you” She added. “You don't get to talk about her,now or ever” Damien said, his voice flat, his tone sharp. Her smile disappeared, she hadn't expected the reaction. Didn't he reject Serena? Why was he talking to her like that? “You're too ambitious Vivienne and I think it might get you in trouble” Damien concluded, walking to his seat. Her stomach twisted. So he liked Serena. Vivienne knew now. He didn't reject her because he didn't like her or because she was the daughter of an enemy. It was because of something else. Something she needed to find out. And now Damien has only made her more desperate for him. She felt her father's grip on her wrist and took her out of the room. “What do you think you're doing? And what was that about you being Luna” Lancelo t said. “I'm going to make him mine, Dad,” Vivienne said, eyes blazing. “Watch me”
