After spending hours trying to prep everything that would be needed for the dinner, picking out the menu and the decor that would fit took the most time but I was done with it and had booked the catering services and decor. I wanted something subtle and not too loud, the whole family would be coming even grandfather so that night has to be extra perfect. The doorbell rang snapping me out of my thoughts “It is Madison,” the housekeeper told me “Let her in, what are you waiting for” I told her and she hurried to go get the door “Hello, hello” Maddie walked in chanting “You came at the right time” I jumped on her “I know you are happy to see me but keep it down a notch” she joked and we both laughed Maddison has been my best friend ever since we met each other during orientation on the first day in college, since then we have become inseparable she is like the sister I never had “Come sit” I dragged down to the couch “Something is going on,” she said looking into my eyes like she was reading me “How?” I asked “Why are you all jumpy?” she asked and I just shrugged with a little smile “Spill it now” she demanded poking my sides, Maddie knew me inside out she could read me like an open book even when I tried to hide something from her she just knows it already “Ouch” I said with a forced laugh moving away from her “There is nothing to spill” I added “You are lying, your face says it all,” she said, I looked at her face contemplating if I should spill it or not. I have been itching to let someone in but I wasn't ready for Maddie “I deserve better” lecture it wouldn't do me good right now. “I'm just happy our anniversary is in a few hours,” I told her instead of deciding to keep it in “Really? That is it?” she asked her face scrunched up like she was disgusted “Yes, that is it,” I said wearing a convincing smile hoping she would drop it because I was sure I would fold with any more push “Alright then,” she said finally after looking at me suspiciously “You would be coming right?” I asked her “For?” she asked pretending to be clueless, she isn't exactly the biggest fan of Alex or our marriage she wouldn't miss the opportunity to tell me how I deserved better “Come on, didn't you see the invitation I sent” I nudged her “Probably got lost in the mail,” she said playing with her nails “You have to be there,” I told her “Ugh” she groaned “Why” she added whining “Because you are my bestie and I need you there” I whined holding her hand “Alright I will be there,” she said making me jump for joy “But why is it so important to you” she said turning serious “Why are you serious all of a sudden” I said with a forced laugh trying to play it off because I knew what was coming “Seriously Myla, he isn't worth all this,” she started to say, exactly what I didn't want to hear but hear we were “Three years is long enough time to see through a man's heart, how long would you wait around and live your life for a man who doesn't love you” she added looking me plainly in my eyes, the way she looked at me waiting for me to answer made my heart ache “You are smart enough to understand that, what gives you that hope to keep believing that he would love you back aren't you tired of hurting and being disappointed every damn time?” she asked “Divorce him and live for yourself you don't deserve to be treated like crap” she continued “I can't” I breathed out “I can't,” I said again looking at her and she went quiet not saying a word we sat in silence not saying anything anymore, this wasn't the first time she was trying to talk sense into me but my heart so much in love with him that I can't think of leaving him “So what did you need my help for?” she asked changing the topic which I am grateful for “I need you to go shopping with me, I need a new dress,” I told her “For the dinner?” she asked me with raised eyebrows “What else if not the dinner?” I said “Just keep your sentiments and come with me please” I begged holding her hand “Wait is that a new ring?” She asked her eyes on my fingers “Oh, this? Alex changed my ring” I smiled flaunting my fingers in her face, Alex just decided about out of the blue to change my wedding ring to a twenty-four karat diamond ring claiming the other one was worn out “Oh,” Maddie said with her eyes laced on the ring like she was lost in her thoughts “I have to go,” she said grabbing her bag “What? Why?” I asked confused but she didn't say anything she rushed out like she was in a hurry “What about my dress?” I asked but she didn't respond all that greeted me was the slamming of the front door. I was confused at what just happened, I kept staring between the ring and the door trying to place a finger on why she rushed out like that but nothing was coming forth. I just pushed it aside and decided not to read meaning of it, my heart was more disturbed with the little speech she gave me. Maddie never miss the opportunity to remind me on how I deserve better but this one hit home more because what type of situation do one find their self in where they are not happy to be pregnant as a married woman?
