Myla’s POV The preparation was going smoothly, I was a little anxious but I pushed it away occupying my mind with setting up. I personally took charge of the cake that was how special I wanted everything to be, I knew nothing about baking a cake but decided to put in the effort although I almost burnt down the kitchen and disposed of quite a number of burnt cakes I succeeded at last all I wanted was for everything to be perfect with no flaw I got dressed and there was still no sign of Alex. I had sent a text to remind him but I got no response from him, I tried calling him but no response either. I pushed down my nerves and the bad thoughts that kept crawling into my head “He is just busy he would be here,” I said to myself to stop myself from overthinking, I stood in front of the mirror admiring how gorgeous I looked when a knock came in “Yes come in” I answered “The guests have started arriving,” the housekeeper told me making my heart rate increase “I will be down in a minute,” I told her, she bowed her head a little before shutting the room door close, As the door slammed shut I took another glance at myself taking a deep breath “You’ve got this,” I said to myself before I headed out Maddie was the only guest from my side although she wasn’t here yet unlike Alex who is from a big family with several guests in our house, it looked like a big event was going on everyone was dressed glamorously and elegant “Is that a new ring?” Natalie, one of Alex's cousins gasped, I groaned internally as I heard her voice. I was trying to be put together but hearing her voice made me agitated. She was a sly fox that always tried to poke at me any chance she got but I wasn't going to let her this time it was my day. I turned to her with my shoulder held high and a smile on my face “Oh, this? It is just a little gift from my husband” I said stretching my fingers out to her so she could clearly see the size of the rock “Must be nice to just lay around and get fed” she said with a little laugh swirling the glass of champagne in her hand, I bit the inside of my cheek to control myself “I would pick that over being a provider to a man,” I said to her and the fake smile she had on her face fell immediately to bitter scorn, I was referring to her deadbeat child she calls her husband, she provides for both of her step children from her husband past marriage and her reckless husband that does nothing but gamble, and follow young girls around with her money spending it as he likes with no care in the world “I don't seem to see that husband of yours anywhere, are you sure he would be attending?” she said busting out laughing like she made a clever joke “That's true, where is Alex?” Mitch, another of Alex’s cousins asked, he and Alex were always fighting tooth and nail against each other before Alex became CEO. Mitch was supposed to be next in line until Alex came out of nowhere with the shares I gave him and took his spot. I swallowed the thick lump that formed at the back of my throat, I also was confused as to why he wasn't yet here “You guys shouldn't act obnoxious, he is the CEO of one of the biggest companies he is busy,” I told them covering it up “Not like any of you would get that but he would be here soon” I added wearing a sly smile, the look on their faces was golden it looked like they were too stunned to speak. it was a happy day for me I wasn't going to let anyone get to me, and I couldn't help but wonder how they would react if they found out that I was with child. “If you would excuse me I have other guests to attend to,” I said excusing myself, I gave them more reason to hate me but I couldn't care less. I took my phone and began to dial Alex's number repeatedly but they all went to voicemail “Alex, where the hell are you? call me when you get this” I sent a voicemail to him I was getting extremely worried “Myla, when are we getting started?” Grandfather asked making me get more anxious “Soon Sir,” I told him “Where is Alex, doesn't he regard me how dare he keep me waiting” Grandfather said “His working late, he is on his way” I lied, I had no idea where he was and I couldn’t act to get through him either to know where the f**k he is, my heart was racing, my palm was sweating and there was no one around to even make me feel better, Maddie didn't show up “Who works late on their wedding anniversary, get him on the phone, let me speak to him,” Grandfather said and my heart stopped working until a loud shattering of glasses filled the air turning everyone’s attention to the sound. I walked towards to shattering to see what had happened, my eyes widened in utter shock when saw that I saw Alex on the floor struggling to get up he collided with the tears of Caesar's glasses “Oh my Alex what is going on?” I asked in confusion as I bent down to try to get him up, everyone in our living room had already gathered whispering to one another “Don't touch me” he snapped at me pushing me away from him, the whiff of alcohol hit me from his breath he was drunk, how could he choose a night like this to get drunk? He stood on his feet and was staggering, struggling to stand, as he was about to fall I held onto him “I said don't f*****g touch me!” he shouted pushing me with so much force almost making me trip but I held myself, it was surprising seeing his act like this to me worst of it in front of people we didn't get along but he was never harsh to me and in front of people we acted like happy couples “I want a divorce” he spat out making everyone let out a dramatic gasp “What do you mean a divorce?” I asked with a nervous laugh, I couldn't believe my ears I wanted him to just turn around and tell me it was a prank “Alex, what is the meaning of all this?!” Grandfather asked at the top of the voice “Nothing much other than I am done with this marriage,” he said clearly looking straight into my eyes, everything around me was spinning “Alex you don't mean it right?” I asked holding his hand and sounding more like I was begging him, he yanked his hand roughly from mine making me fall on my butt “Sign it I have signed mine already,” he said throwing papers at my face, right there my whole world crumbled I couldn't hear anything only the thudding of my heart it felt like it would jump out of my mouth
