Chapter 2

400 Words
Back at the dorm, Camille Ellison took a hot shower right away. Still, her nose remained stuffy, a clear sign she was coming down with a cold. She had wanted to tell Cross, but the moment she picked up her phone, she put it right back down. She could not help remembering the last time she messaged him. Camilla: I've caught a cold. My nose is so blocked. I don't know if I'll be able to go to class tomorrow. Back then, Cross had been playing an online game with Juliette, the girl in the bunk directly opposite hers. He never replied until the whole match had ended. And even then, all he sent back was: Cross: Wow, that's really something, huh? Camille stared blankly, her mind going numb. She felt a twinge of hurt, yet deep down, she had almost expected him to answer just like that. What she never expected was that Juliette had been on voice chat with him the whole time. The instant Juliette let out a tiny sniffle, Cross reacted immediately, "What's wrong? Are you getting sick?" Juliette lay on the upper bunk. She casually lifted her eyes and met Camille's across the room. "It's just a bit cold in here. I never thought this city wouldn't have heating this time of year." Right after those words, Cross abandoned the game and rushed straight out. His whole team yelled curses at him over the headset, but he paid no attention. Twenty minutes later, someone knocked hard on the ground‑floor window. Cross stood outside, the tip of his nose bright red from the chill, holding up cold medicine. He called through the glass, "You're ahead of her, Camilla. Look out for her, and go fetch some hot water for her." He spoke as if he did not even see the pile of used tissues stacked high on Camille's desk right nearby. Instead, he smiled warmly straight at Juliette. "Take this on time. Don't later make excuses that your face looks too puffy to put on makeup and skip class. If the professor gets angry this time, I won't cover for you." Juliette wrinkled her nose playfully. "Fine, fine. I got it. Hurry back, you have already been suspended from matches once before." She closed the window, then glanced over at Camille. "Don't worry, I won't actually order you around just because he said that."
