I couldn’t help but blurt out the question before I could even realize it.
Instantly regretting my impulsiveness, I cursed myself in thought. Taking a deep breath, I slowly shift my gaze to Lucas who gives me a knowing look. My cheeks flush red in embarrassment and shame at this sudden outburst of mine.
“Even though I am here standing right beside you, you’re still thinking of another? What a pity.” he said teasingly, his voice heavy with sarcasm and disappointment.
“I-it’s not like that, Lucas. I-i…” My hands start shaking and I can feel the words getting stuck in my throat. Why am I even stuttering? Taking a deep breath, I shake my head and look up at him, desperately wanting to get out of this situation as soon as possible.
