Chapter 5: Unexpected Encounter

1008 Words
The sun started its descent, bathing the city streets in a soothing, golden light as I walked by. It had been a day full of internal battles and difficult decisions that weighed heavily on my mind, still trying to process all that had occurred. As I took a walk, my focus was suddenly taken by an art gallery that radiated with elegance. I stepped inside and noticed the stunning artwork that lined the walls. Every inch of the room seemed to be alive with vibrancy and feeling as if each piece were narrating its own tale. The oil paintings beckoned me forward to explore further, revealing secrets in their brush strokes like unspoken words on paper. Everywhere my eyes landed I could sense a story being told. Lost in the breathtaking beauty that surrounded me, I failed to notice the tall figure that stood nearby until his throat was cleared, bringing my focus back to the here and now. Startled, I turned around and there he was - Lucas Reynolds, the mysterious art collector with an enigmatic air about him. His lips were curved up ever so slightly in a small smile as he watched me take in my surroundings. He silently observed me for what felt like ages before finally breaking out into a chuckle. "Charlotte Lawson, isn't it?" Lucas spoke, his voice carrying a hint of warmth and familiarity. "What a pleasant surprise to see you here." I nodded, a mix of curiosity and surprise coursing through me. "Lucas Reynolds. It's a pleasure to meet you." It was quite a surprise to run into him here in an art gallery. I had just been out here trying to pass the time, but never did I expect to come across him in such an unexpected place. “So, what do you think of my interpretation of your sketch? Do you find it accurate, or does it seem off-base in any way?” I suddenly remember the sketch of my face he gave me from the gala that night. To be honest, it was shocking coming from someone like him who can do art so perfectly. Being able to draw and capture feelings through a simple piece of paper was something I marveled at. “It was pretty, to be honest.” I said, smiling. “Yeah, sure it was.” he said, staring int my eyes intently. I bit my bottom lip, desperately looking away in an attempt to quell the warmth flooding my cheeks as they turned red. My gaze settled on the art on display in front of us, pretending to be captivated by it all while Lucas spoke again. His voice sounded sincere, and yet I couldn’t help but feel a little embarrassed at how deeply his words resonated within me. “So, how’s your life recently? Any particular plan?” I licked my lower lip, “Nothing in particular on my mind. I'm just going to finish up the painting I'm working on with a brush and canvas, and see if I can sell it online or offer it to the millionaires that I met at that gala recently. After all, those who have money can appreciate art better than those who don't.” Lucas laugh and its warmth penetrates your heart and fills it with joy. There's something special about the sound of his laughter that can make you forget all your worries, as if they never existed. His whole body radiates a deep happiness that brightens everyone around him. “I can purchase you for myself, to make sure that you are mine.” My eyes widened in shock as my gaze met his. Did I heard him right? “E-excuse me?” “What? I said I can buy the art you are making to make it mine.” For a moment there, I was positive he had said something inappropriate but it's highly unlikely that he would ever say such words. I shook my head skeptically and decided that perhaps I had just been mistaken earlier. Maybe my ears had been playing tricks on me, or maybe I simply hadn't heard him properly in the first place. The more I thought about it, the more unlikely it seemed that he had actually uttered those exact words. “Anyway, are you seeing anyone right now?” “What if I told you I am?” I gave him a side eye stare. Lucas’s smile stretched even further across his face, seemingly spurred by the sentiment behind my words. His eyes sparkled with glee and his lips curved upwards in anticipation. “What if I told you that I can steal you away from him?” he said, his eyes turning serious all of a sudden. Those words made me almost drop down on my knees. For some reason, I feel like I am dreaming. First, Alexander sent me a text requesting a meeting to present me with something I have not yet chosen. Now Lucas has also done the same, showing me his own intention as well. Both of them have caught my attention and piqued my curiosity - what exactly do they want from me? I was just a normal artist with ambition to make a name for myself in my industry. Yet, instead of finding only the usual challenges and obstacles on my journey, I surprisingly encounter two mysterious yet alluring men. “Just kidding. I don’t want to ruin someone else’s relationship.” I was just about to say something, to let him know I was only teasing, when something caught my attention out of the corner of my eye. It was Alexander. Initially, I was unsure if it really was him as it had only been a few hours since we first met. But when I focused my gaze and took a closer look, there was no mistaking it - that tall figure and slightly lopsided smirk could only belong to him. But what really made me take notice was that he was with another woman.
