Chapter Thirty The day before Harry and Lizzy moved out, Mary invited Caroline round for coffee. A brief period of windy and rainy weather kept them in the kitchen, rather than the garden as Mary had originally intended. Caroline provided cakes, which they saved for dessert. Mary had prepared a warm chicken and bacon salad and homemade lemonade, both of which they ditched in favour of bacon rolls and coffee. As they ate Mary toyed with the huge vase of flowers Caroline had brought. “Why exactly is your husband sending me flowers?” asked Mary. “Let’s just say he’s grateful for the inspiration you provided on our recent night away.” “Ooh that sounds intriguing.
