Chapter Thirty One Caroline woke late. A watery sun was pushing its fingertips around the edges of the curtains. She stretched and smiled, realising that for the first time in ages, she and Joe were properly alone. Lizzy and Harry had moved out. Other than the gentle snuffle of Joe’s breathing, muffled by the pillow he had wedged over his head, the house was silent. Caroline rolled slowly out of bed, doing her best not to wake him.
