Chapter 4

A woman and man came up in front of me and smiled sadly. "Am sorry dear, Victor won't be able to make it" the woman said taking my hand in hers. " What do you mean?" I asked now looking straight at my father. " Is the wedding canceled? What about the company?" "No!No!No! The wedding continues, just the groom is missing, he has signed everything that is needed." The woman said again, like she is crazy. "How is that even possible?" I asked taking my hand from the woman. " I'm sorry dear, it's just he was so busy that he couldn't make it." " Is the world ending and he's the only one who can solve it? Or is he the president of a country and he has to go and sign something to stop a war? because I just can't understand what is so important that he has to miss his own wedding" I asked angrily he was pissing me off on top of the fact that I hadn't even met him. He said he does not want to meet me, I obliged and didn't even look for him. He said he does not want to help in the wedding preparation, I did not look for him to help me. And now he says he does not want to come to the wedding, what am I supposed to do when he is the groom? My father pulled me aside because I was getting rilled up and was about to blow up. "What?!" "Amanda, you have to calm down, remember why you are here in the first place?" "Yeah, but it does not mean they -and by they I mean my husband- have to humiliate us like this" "I know darling but we have to." "No dad, we will find another way, not this" "Well, how do you suggest we get one billion Kenyan shillings to pay off the debt and one hundred million to stabilize the company for the year?" "When did the debt reach one billion?" I asked in shock. "Your mom's treatment, the running of the company, your school fees and paying the three hundred employees for the past three years that the company was not making profits." He said looking down in shame. "Dad what the f***" "I know that's why this is the only way" That was preposterous, all that money, it made sense but still, it was too much. I stood there thinking of a way but I couldn't find one, one billion was not a little. "Okay, but don't you dare tell me that I have to sire a child to be able to pay the debt like all the other movies because it's starting to feel like one." "Yeah, there is no such clause in the contract so you can relax." he said rolling his eyes I felt like a rollercoaster, I had entered here nervous of my future, then I was mad at my future husband and now am determined to save my father and his legacy with mom, no matter what but... "I'll do it" I said as soon as we arrived in front of the pulpit again facing my future -in-laws. "You are the best" my mother -in- law said smiling, I just nodded my head and held up my head up high. I walked to the pulpit in front of the priest and told him to continue. When the priest asked if there was anyone who opposed the wedding, I was super tempted to talk but I remembered my father and mother and how they had built the company through troubles sometimes even staying days at the company. I told myself this was for the betterment of my family. I told myself the vows, put the ring on my finger and signed the marriage contract, 'Victor Owen Omondi' the name was written and signed as my husband, the man who let me wed myself and humiliated me, my husband. I looked up after signing and everyone was ululating with joy. I walked out with the certificate in my hand, got into my car and drove off and didn't look back, I just got married to someone I didn't know and had yet to meet. I imagined how he looked in my mind, a CEO who did not even see the need to cone to his own wedding. A cold, aloof CEO was the picture I had in mind but that made him look like he was hot like in all the novels and short dramas but to me was the worst of the worst. And that was the beginning of my life.
