One month passed by pretty fast with the wedding arrangements left and right all round without a moment of rest .
From choosing the wedding venue to picking a dress.
From choosing the DJ and music to picking a cake and caterer.
From choosing the guest list and seating arrangements to picking the theme colours.
It was hectic and tiring especially when all this was left to me alone, my future husband no where to be seen. I had tried to google him at least to see his face and know more about him but it only said his history with a family picture when he was a child.
I stared at myself on the floor length mirror and could hardly recognize myself,my melanin skin tone shone and glittered, my makeup was to perfection and my dress, well it was a beautiful off shoulder mermaid dress with lacy arms and it was definitely complimenting my body shape.
"You look beautiful Amanda"My best friend said from behind me.
"Don't I?" I said smiling.
"Yeah, like an angel or a princess about to marry her prince?"Elizabeth said excitedly.
I smiled widely trying to show my excitement which was non-existent. Before the tears I have been hiding flowed and ruined my make-up, someone knocked and my father's head popped through the door.
"Are you done honey?"
"Yeah almost, just the veil."
"You look stunning, just like your mother,"
"Dad, Don't make me cry now?" I said pretending to wipe tears away.
"OK OK I will stop." He said smiling sadly.
I slowly turned and faced him with much difficult in this dress I walked to him.
"Dad, I bet she is smiling up there."
"Yeah," he said "but I'm sorry."
"Dad please I don't want to hear or feel any negative energy, it's my wedding day."
"Okay," he said looking at me and I tried to show my happiest smile on my face. I had been practicing this smile for two weeks now and my face muscles were almost giving up.
"Come here and let's put on your veil." Elizabeth pulled me from my dad and sat me in front of the make-up table again and put my veil on, I could hardly believe I was getting married, I had imagined my wedding day countless times since I was young. I had wondered when? Where? How? And to whom I would get married and here it all came true only not how I imagined.
My dad checked his watch and cleared his throat, "it's time."
We all looked at him and cheered and started the slow walk out of the house to the venue. I had chosen a parish, my mom's church before she died. I didn't want this marriage didn't mean I wasn't going to do it right.
I imagined my life, my past, present and what the future held for me while in the car as I watched the houses and trees being left behind as the car moved forward. Was this a message? That I should forget the past and move on?no I was just reading too much into it.
The parish was a magnificent Victorian era design and I loved the way it seemed to be cone and comfort someone. I got out of my car and waited to be told to enter, I was nervous, was this the right decision? Was I making the biggest mistake of mg life?
"Are you sure about this?" Michael asked from behind nearly shattering my lungs, it was like he was reading my mind.
"Seriously? Don't do that again." I said turning my face to him with my hands to my chest.
"And yes, am sure Mike, thanks for worrying."
"If you are sure then am here for you.... And by the way you look wonderfully beautiful like a butterfly."
"Why butterfly?"
"Because they are your favorite.... So you know that you look beautiful just like them."
"OK then," I said smiling my first genuine smile, I looked at Michaels' dark eyes and remembered all the times I did not sleep thinking of them. Michael was one of those friends, hot, kind, generous but never single, with his dimpled smile, chocolate skin tone and his height, i had a crush on him since i met him in highschool but how could i tell him when he never lacked a woman by his side but now it was time for me to forget him. FOREVER.
"It's time" my dad said extending his arm startling me from my day dream. I held his arm and went into the church, my eyes cast down, I could not look up, my fears were starting to clop up, All the what ifs? I had closed down from surfacing were coming up and if I looked up I would cave and run away, so as the slow song of Shania Twain ' you are still the one' continued to ring throughout the parish, I walked on.
When we reached the pulpit, I could feel my dad's nervousness, I looked at him but his eyes were searching all around. I looked up to search for whatever he was looking for but stopped when I noticed the empty pulpit, only the priest stood there looking straight at me with sorrowful eyes.
"What is going on?" I asked to no one in particular but nobody answered me.
