Perfect Husband For You
Was I still in my dream?
I was not certain. I felt as if I was floating in an endless sea, and it was complete darkness without a lighthouse or moon and stars. Furthermore, I couldn't shout or move anymore. In my dream, it seemed that a woman walking towards me. She approached me with an irresistible feeling. I tried to escape her eyes but failed. I could only watch her walk up to me. I could only see her face in the dim vision. "How is my little angel today?" The woman spoke softly towards me and that woman is non-other than my mother, it didn't take me long to know that.
"Mommy... You wouldn't leave me again, right?" I looked at her with glassy eyes. It was almost 17 years since the last time we met.
"Mommy promise will stay together and will play together?" I asked with a hoarse voice as she cupped my face and nodded in yes. "My little Princess... Just wait for mommy after school I'll pick you up then we will play together" She pinches my cheeks softly, earning a cute giggle for me. But that day, she never came to pick me up.
"Iris!" I heard someone yelled my name out, and I reluctantly opened my eyes to look up at the source only to see my music teacher staring down at me with a look of pity and impatience.
"Pay attention to class. If you wanted to sleep, you should have stayed at home." Sir scolded me, but I knew he wasn't being harsh, so I was chill. The rest of the day went by, my exhaustion became harder to deal with every passing hour. Finally, it was noon and I was free. I speed walked to the ground area.
The calming breeze and sunshine soon welcomed me. My school is located near the mountain, so I have the privilege of breathing scenery every time.
“Come on Iris Lia the competition is coming in just a couple of days. Work harder than usual if you want to make me proud, ok!” My best friend Carolina said and I chuckled.
“You know what, you just got extra hyped because you got to dance with that hot dude this time... Hun...?” She whined, and my cheeks turned a red shade of hot red. “Oh please Care, don't even start!” I said, and she giggled at my weird expression. I love my friend, she was more than a friend... Maybe my human diary. She knew inside out. We had an in-depth bond that I could never have with anyone else because I found solace in her company, but she could sometimes be nosy. I swear, she should've become a detective instead of attending Art school. We two hit it off right away since the first semester in college. She is not a friend, I always considered her as my sister. Whom I love to pamper, and she loves to tease me endlessly. Our bond is going stronger with every year passing, making us inseparable soul sisters.
We are on the same course and shared the same dream of becoming a choreographer. I know that is my dream. Will never be fulfilled, no matter what I do. With all my dreams, all my ambition came with two obstacles. One was my father and the other was my own conflicted and uncertain self. I lived exactly as my parents expected me. I was an obedient daughter. As a child and even now as an adult, but my ideas of obedience had taken a different form as I grew older. I learn to submit and obey so much that I allowed my father to restrict the event in my thought process. If I wished for something or to achieve something, I have to ask for his permission. My stepmother would always smile and just as she would about to support me, my father would intervene most ruthlessly that the idea, the hope, and my ambition would seek their death and own incarceration.
But I will always pray that my jolly friend's dream must come true. I didn't have any genuine friends in high school because of my father, and meeting Carolina was a lucky card I have wished for.
“Don't tell me, Iris, I know you have had a crush on him since forever but let me tell you one thing, the world will be a good place to be in, if your dreams, wishes, and expectations come true. Otherwise, it will be equivalent to hell when you don't expect good for your own. It is wrong for anyone to even stifle your desire, not for your parents! Think about it, my friend.” She said, winking at me. Her words have a great impact on me. I don't know why but a sad smile plastered on my lips and cheeks exposing my deep dimples. It kindled a different kind of hope in my heart.
“Oh my God Care, I never knew that you are that witty, but I love you the way you are.” I hinted while smiling. “Oh hello, a pearl-like me can't lose its shine just that way.” She bragged smirking, and she was all smiling, and I could see her face glistening with joy.
“Iris, let's plan a sleepover at my place? I wanted to tell you something. Please please please.” She said with a puppy face.
“And you think my so-called father will permit me to stay in other people's houses? You know how my life is.” I said and rolled my eyes at her, and she stuck her tongue out. “Get a life, Iris! Please for your own sake.” She said and was about to elaborate some more.
“Hey Iris” a soft and alluring male voice came from behind before my brain had managed to come up with a response, I would consider good enough. I turned around, rushing, coming face to face with Leo's sunny features.
“I was hoping to meet you, thinking we could practice the routine some more... Umm, are you free to discuss this over coffee?”
Now my heart was beating for an entirely different reason than fear. A small smile bloomed on my lips.
“Well…what's your answer then? Perhaps we could grab some coffee today.” A wide yet, somewhat nervous smile played across his lips. If there was a Prince Charming, It was Leo King.
Kind, gentle and handsome. I was all surprised by how easily I got attracted to him, maybe because of his name. His name reminds me of someone whom I cannot forget even if I wanted to. He was a Greek god. His fresh haircut matched so well with his face structure. He could cut glass with his well-defined jawline. His eyes land in my direction for an answer, and our eyes met. I was hypnotized, my mind and my body freeze completely. He had apparent green eyes, and it was as if she was trying to look at my soul. He had all the qualities you could wish for in a dream man. For what seemed like an eternity, it came back to my senses and I quickly lowered my gaze.
“Co...coffee...today...?” I stammered, feeling myself grow bright red.
“Umm Leo, actually I have to go home today. I'm... I'm sorry!” I pushed back the bitterness in my voice. “Oh! It's okay, no worries.” Leo's face fell in disappointment.
“But I'm free the next day. Tomorrow maybe?”
I quickly added. The smile was quick to return on his dazzling face. Damn, why does his smile has to be so delightful?
“Great! Tuesday it is. let's meet, then I will message you.” With this, he waved his goodbye. Taking one last look at me before walking off. He even looks good from behind.
“Well. Well. Well. Did someone just land a date?”
Caroline's previous scowl was now replaced by a large Cheshire grin and nudge my side with an elbow, a knowing look plastered on her face which I hate the most. “It's not like that we just want to discuss something related to the upcoming dance competition, so please stop it, Carolina, please don't overreact.”
I grinned, my cheeks were rosy. I had dreamed about Leo since day one. This was the first time he had ever asked me out. Though, a part of me was squealing in joy until... PING!
A message from my stepmother Lina served as a simple reminder.
~ “Your father is seeking your immediate presence, he has found the perfect husband for you. Leave everything and come home as soon as possible. You already know the consequences of being late, so hurry up.”
