Jorjette’s POV
I declared. Even though Gabe had proved that he would never stand by me in hard times, I was still going to be with him for my Pack’s sake and get rid of him later. What mattered now, was evidence to prove my innocence.
“You can't do that!” He said, irritated.
“Of course, I can. Since I'm not guilty, the bond still stands. You should prepare your apology speech by the time I'm done finding evidence.” I said, and then I turned around to leave, ignoring anything they had to say.
__
Hours had passed and I was already going nuts, trying to investigate and also deal with the pain of half rejection. A type of rejection where I could never get over the pain until I reunited with my mate. I had combed through several CCTV cameras and I finally found a person dressed in black clothes and a mask sneaking in when the control room was empty. I had no way of identifying him and I had to continue to comb through every CCTV camera on his route out of the packhouse and beyond.
But one baffling thing was that the time he came in to upload didn't coincide with the time of my speech. It was about minutes before the birthday party started. The only thing I guessed he did was to replace my speech file with a new file. And yes, I was right about that, the taskbar of the computer showed me everything and I found the deleted birthday speech as well.
“How could this person be so careless to leave this much evidence here,” I said with a playful smile on my face.
I concluded that it was the new file that was displayed on the big screen and as I looked through the footage a few meters away from the Packhouse, the man stopped in his tracks. He then took off his clothes that had hidden his build and his mask and I gasped, seeing who it was.
It was a bit dark but I recognized him and the new clothes after he took his black clothes off. That was Gabe and he discarded his mask and clothes by the roadside and walked back toward the Packhouse.
“Haha!” I let out an angry chuckle seeing that I was played for a fool. He was able to pull this off because the areas around the Packhouse were deserted mainly due to my party.
“I need to see him… I need to see that bastard!” I said to myself. I dashed out of the control room, raging and I could feel my Wolf raging as well. Right now, I just wanted to blow his head off. I wanted to know how the f**k he got those pictures when I never sent them to him. Also, how the f**k did he send those messages to mated wolves without my knowledge?
As soon as I got to the door, I bashed it open. But I couldn't even smell or see Gabe but I could smell something else. The intense smell of fresh blood hit me mixed with a peach scent. That scent was extremely familiar and I looked toward the bed to see a blood-stained duvet and there was something underneath it.
I frowned, thinking it was Gabe. If he was playing me again, I certainly had no time for him again because I was ready to kill him this time. I dashed toward the bed and took off the duvet.
But then my stepsister’s body, Aria, was staring back at me with a silver knife lodged deep in her chest.
“Goddess!” I let in shock and I looked around to see there was no one. Her murder was fresh and at this point, I was sure Gabe did it. This was another ploy against me and I knew I needed to get out before the situation could go south if I stayed there. But before I knew it, guards rushed into the room, followed by Gabe and my father as well as the Beta, Jace.
“Oh no!” My father uttered and rushed toward the bed, panicked, the Beta spoke up.
“Did you kill her, Jette?” Jace asked and all eyes were on me.
I sat behind a desk in an empty room and was forced to face my father, Gabe, and the Beta who was adamant about Aria’s death. Gabe was mad that his new mate was dead and my father was calm, almost too calm but I could see the anger raging in his eyes and he was trying to control his aura. He was a strong Alpha after all and even though he had neglected the Pack, he didn't joke about his safety or Aria’s.
“I didn't kill her!” I said firmly in response to the question the Beta asked me again and again.
“This is your last time to tell the truth. An investigation has been conducted and if it is found out that you are the killer, you will not be spared! The Alpha has put me in charge of this case and I do not intend to show mercy.” I heard him say and I shrugged, knowing I didn't kill Aria and no matter what they found, it would never point to me. When I was humiliated on the stage, my father never ordered an investigation but he was all over the place for Aria. That thought stung me but then I maintained maximum composure.
“Why don't you investigate that man over there? He has a lot to hide and I believe he is responsible for your daughter's death.” I uttered, staring intently at my father while pointing at Gabe. My father knew I would not just make baseless accusations and I got his attention.
“What do you mean?” My father asked glancing at Gabe who seemed nervous for a split second but he chose to stay quiet. The Gabe I knew would jump at me for accusing him but why was he so silent? But I didn't have time to think too much about that since I needed to get myself out of this situation.
“Check the CCTV footage right from the control room to five buildings away from the Packhouse with time stamps 7:15 to 7:30 pm. I guarantee that you will find your answers.” I replied, smirking and I looked at Gabe who frowned suddenly. I guess he never thought I would find out. If my father found out that Gabe was actually responsible for those photos, he would be smart enough to know that Gabe could never be trusted, especially when the dead body was found in his room.
Gabe made an effort to stop my father from going to the control room but he did anyway and now, I just had to sit back and wait for the results.
They all rushed out and for an hour, I waited, I was really starting to get nervous when the door was pushed open and my father came rushing toward me and smacked me across the face and my head whipped to the side.
“How dare you! Are you trying to accuse someone else of a crime you committed?” He thundered and I slowly turned to look at him in anger. My eyes were red and in all of the 25 years I had lived, no one had ever dared to raise their hands on me.
“You are making a mistake, father!” I declared, trying to control myself.
“Haha! How am I making a mistake here? You are the one who is trying to correct your mistakes. You f*****g lied about the footage! There is nothing there! The time stamp you gave just showed footage of the control room workers and Pack members moving around. Do you think you can fool us?” He yelled at me and I frowned.
“No! That can't be. I saw it with my eyes! He was the one who uploaded the photos and also set up everything to accuse me.” I fired back.
“So, all this is about you, huh? Not about my daughter who just died?” His words caused me to deflate. Once again, I was reminded that he didn't love or care about me. I found myself sinking but his words brought me back to reality.
“You didn't think we would find out, didn't you? Your fingerprints are all over the murder weapon and because you have been so jealous of Aria, you hated her for taking your place and Gabe, you decided to kill her.” He enunciated every of his words and they were a f*****g blow to me.
My head sparked, wondering how they had even gotten that evidence.
“It’s false evidence! You can't convict me of what I did not do!” I put out my words, rising to my feet. I could see the venomous look in Gabe’s eyes but he acted like he was pained about Aria’s death so well, fooling the others.
At the same time, guards rushed into the room, and the Alpha pointed at me, “Throw her in prison! She will be executed tonight!” He ordered and the guards came forward to take me and it was at this moment I finally reacted.
“Father!” I screamed but he looked away from me.
“I did not kill her! I don't know how my fingerprints got there! I never hated Aria enough to kill her!” I enunciated every one of my words. Though I disliked her, I wasn't as vile as she or her mother was. And as the guard dragged me, I struggled violently against them, trying to set myself free.
I kicked and bit them but their hold on me was stronger but I didn't relent. I made another move, jabbing one of them in the stomach and pushing the others with all my might. I made a move to run to Gabe. Something in my head had snapped and I could feel the bloodlust rising through me. I wanted to take him down with me but before I could get to him, I was smacked strongly in the head and I went tumbling to the floor. I passed out, cold.
__
Hours later, I opened my eyes again to find out that I was on the cold floor of the dungeon.
“Oh no!” I let out as I crazily stood up and ran to the entrance, banging on the iron bars. That bloodlust was still inside me and I wanted to let it out so desperately. Kyra wanted to dash out so bad but we were trapped in that prison cell.
I even tried to bend the bars but they were made of hardcore steel mixed with a bit of silver to harm prisoners. My hands were slowly burning as I continued to try but then I heard footsteps and I stopped. Someone was coming and I recognized that scent.
“Have you given up?” I heard Gabe’s voice suddenly and he appeared before me.
“It looks like you want to kill me so bad.”
“Yes, of course! Do you want to have a feel of my sharp claws?” I asked with a sneer.
“You see, I never thought you would find out this way. But I must say, taking you out was easy because of your unnecessary hatred toward Aria. It was the only tool I could use against your perfect image and of course, those photoshopped photos and chats from your cloned social media accounts.” He said to me and my breath hitched. This was his plan and his doing after all. How could I have not known that those photos were photoshopped? They were too good and the cloned account, I didn't find out about because he saved those chats before deleting them.
I only guessed that he had taken those photos while I was asleep but he only proved that he was more cunning than that, with the chats and then…
“The footage…” That was one thing I wasn't sure about. How did it disappear?
“Oh, the footage. It wasn't that hard. I just had to pay a good tech dude and he replaced it. I must say he is really good.” He explained without me asking and I let out an irritated gasp.
“You won't get away with this, Gabe! I promise!” I declared, snarling at him. I wanted to tear his head apart and feed it to the dogs. He was certainly there to mock me and to prove that I was stupid enough to trust him.
“Oh, I would love to see you try. Maybe, when I slowly gain your father’s trust and I sell your Pack members away.” He chuckled and I gasped, in fear for the first time. Knowing that Gabe was never in love with me or approached me with good intentions, was one thing. But knowing that he planned to sell my Pack members was another thing.
He knew that was all I cared for and he made sure to take me out first.
“Whatever you want to do, you won’t succeed,” I said to him.
“Oh really? Dealing with your father won’t be hard at all. He cares little about the Pack and the Beta is also helping me if you may know.” He said with so much pride in his voice.
“And do you think he will let you take the Pack? My father is not so dumb! The Pack members will fight against evil like you!” I raged but even I had little faith in him because he had lost his will ever since his two wives died.
“Why do you think I went through this much trouble to frame you? The Pack members will see me as the saint here while you and your father crumble. And then I can exploit their trust in me. Easy game.” He chuckled and disgust rose within me toward him. His level of evilness amazed me to the core.
Slowly, he turned around to leave and his last words were, “Wait for your execution tonight, Jette. And then I can take over your Pack and sell the Pack members just as I want.”
“Get back here! You bastard!” I yelled, trying to tear apart those bars. I considered myself a strong Wolf but these bars were just too strong for me and especially after the rejection, my strength had declined.
I took a step back, knowing Gabe wasn't coming back. I needed to think of a way to get out and the only thing I could think of was negotiating with the guards. I had been good to them, in place of my father, and a few words here and there would convince them.
I had to wait for hours before two guards approached my prison cell and my hands curled around the bars as I looked at them eagerly. I went straight to the point.
“Get me out of here…” I said to them and they looked at each other, bewildered. Right, they wouldn't just listen to me after what happened.
“You both know I have worked diligently for this Pack and I know you can tell that I have been framed. I need to save my people from Gabe’s hands! The Pack is not secure in my father’s hands. So, please let me out and I will reward you both greatly.” I proposed, trying my luck in the little faith they had for me. They had seen me work tirelessly all these years and I could see a tinge of hope in their eyes.
They looked at each other and then nodded, “We will do as you say.” they said and it was like a heavy load was off my shoulder. They let me out and even though their acceptance was so sudden, I had to make use of this opportunity before they changed their mind. and I walked out of the prison cells, trying to be as discreet as possible. I needed to find evidence on Gabe and my destination was his bedroom.
But as I got to the dark entrance of the entire prison, I saw Gabe waiting for me there with two guards behind him and I gasped, halting my steps.
“I knew you would come, mate.” He said with a mocking tone. I realized that the guards let me go so easily on purpose. How could I have not known? I asked and cursed myself. I felt like tearing those guards apart and I was a bit dismayed that my Pack members had started to follow Gabe’s words.
And before I could react, he took out a gun and shot me in the chest.
