A Second Chance

JorJette’s POV A burning sensation only from silver spread through me as blood spewed out from my chest. My body almost tumbled but I held onto the walls, I still wanted to save myself. I tried to reach for one of the guards, to mark him. I could save myself by marking anyone. As long as I was bound to someone on the verge of death, I could prolong my stay in this world intertwining my life force with that person. No matter the consequences afterward, I just needed to buy myself a few minutes and my claws would dig into Gabe’s chest. “I know what you want to do, Jette,” Gabe spoke up and guards stepped back seeing my intention. “But not on my watch!” he added and pushed my body to the ground. My life was being sucked at by the second and I looked at Gabe with so much killing intent. If I die now, I would regret not killing Gabe but my end was here. “Another chance, please,” I muttered, needing just one chance to end that bastard’s life but then I took my last breath. I felt like I was floating and it was like I was lying on fluffy clouds and they caressed my skin. My eyes opened up slowly to see that I was in a vast cloudy space and I gasped in shock. The last thing I could remember was hoping for a chance to correct everything. Was this it? Was this what I hoped for? But it didn't seem so since this place was certainly not the Pack I lived in and I recalled that I was dead. My heart thumped and I felt the hatred for Gabe as well as my father and Jace creeping into my soul. I just wanted to tear them and make sure my Pack is all right. My mother would be glad if I avenged her unjust death as well especially with all the suffering she went through. But slowly I felt a calming feeling overwhelm me and I could feel my hatred starting to slip away. It was more like it was being lodged and hidden deep within my soul and then I felt unbelievably calm. This calmness was certainly not from me and I looked around to see the most beautiful person ever. “My child…” I heard the person say and I felt a motherly aura from her. She looked at me with kindness in her eyes and I could the gentle power radiating through her. Knowing that I was in the afterlife, my mind instantly clicked and I knew who she was. “Moon Goddess…” I uttered with so much awe and reverence while she smiled at me. She moved closer and then patted me on the head, I felt like a child getting her favorite candy. But then I snapped, why did she have to let me suffer and put the Pack members at such risk? “I do not think this is the right time to pat my head, Goddess,” I said with resentment in my eyes. At my words, she smiled, not picking an offense, “You have suffered too much, my child. But it's not the end for you.” She said slowly. “It’s not the end? Are you giving me a second chance?” I asked, latching onto her words. At my words, she only smiled. “What are you willing to give for a second chance?” She asked, her calmness changing into cunningness. My eyes dimmed a bit as I realized she was trying to negotiate with me. Of course, things like this wouldn't come easily else almost dead werewolf would be given a second chance. “What are your terms?” I asked She looked at me from head to toe, I could see the glint in her eyes which told me there was something she wanted. “Give me your Wolf. You failed to harness her abilities anyway. So, you can give her up now.” I heard her say and that put me off. How could I hand over Kyra? It was like I was handing over half of my life. What would be the use of a second chance then? “You know, Goddess, there are plenty of other people who shouldn't be alive. My innocent Wolf should not be in that category.” I finally replied, also with a cunning look. A perfect sacrifice to give popped into my head. “Who shouldn't be alive?” she asked with raised brows. This was the time to put out my conditions as well. “I will give you my mate, Gabe. You know how important a mate is, I’m ready to live without one if I can get a second life.” I proposed and she looked at me with a knowing smile. “That should work.” She agreed with glee in her eyes. “We have a deal then,” she added. “One more thing. I want my healing ability restored. It wouldn't be fair to lose a mate and not have anything else, right?” I asked, even though I had survived without that ability for so long, it was one crucial thing I needed to deal with my father. The chance of the Goddess restoring that ability was rare but she agreed. “I will do that, but I need two souls instead. Bind your mate with someone else and then send them off to me.” She put out her conditions and I nodded. That was easy pie, Jace and my father could come in handy, or anyone ready to die with Gabe. As soon as the deal was made, she gestured at me and a wisp of smoke dashed out of her fingers and I felt my body falling. The clouds disappeared and it was like I was going down an abyss. My eyes closed and I just let myself slip away. Soon, my body crashed and I jolted up with my head whipping around. My heart was beating so fast and several emotions raged through me. I was dissatisfied that the Moon Goddess let me go that way without an explanation of what was given to me. But then I knew that I had gotten a second chance. I looked down at my body to see the gaping bullet hole in my heart and I realized that that same heart was beating. I put my hands over it, to confirm, I just wanted to confirm that it was really a bullet. If I still had the bullet there, it only meant that I was brought back to the day I died. Nothing had really changed but it was my turn to change things now. I looked around to see that I was in an abandoned graveyard, where sinners were kept. It wasn't so surprising to me though, because I would have dumped my enemy here as well. I put my hand over my chest, trying to force to bullet out. With a silver bullet, Kyra wouldn't be able to react at all. And to confirm whether the Moon Goddess had really restored my ability, I tried to heal myself. A shimmering light from my hands flowed into that wound. It sealed up immediately and I could no longer feel the bullet. “Oh, Goddess!” I gasped, seeing that instant healing! Even if I depended on my abilities, I would never be able to heal so quickly. I got my gift back! One that was rare even in all Packs! My battle with Gabe would certainly take lives, I had to strategize and know how to minimize deaths and that was where this ability would come in place. I stood, ready to leave to plan out my next moves, weak from the energy dispelled to heal myself. I took a step forward to get out of there but then I stopped when I heard rustles in the bushes nearby. My senses picked that sound and I knew that there was someone. Was Gabe here to watch me? But I couldn't smell him or anyone, all I could smell was rotten dead bodies. I concluded it was probably a ghost lurking around and since I wouldn't want a ghost following me, I needed to get out. I started to walk just as much as my strength could carry me but at the same time, Kyra supported me since she felt whole now. She wanted to take over and make me shift but with my silvery white fur, we would surely gain attention while I slipped into the Pack, so I stopped her. I was just about to leave the graveyard and cross the border when I heard the rustling again. This time, it was much louder and it felt like it was so close, I could feel it crippling on me. This time, I was sure it was no ghost and it was someone who could hide so well. I turned around to attack whoever it was in my weak state but swiftly, I got tackled to the ground. My eyes widened seeing a bloodied man before me with his fangs out and his eyes were changing by the minute. His hands on me were sending shivers down my spine and I could feel my Wolf reacting to him.
