Taking Revenge

Jorjette’s POV His scent mixed with blood appealed to me and the way he was hurt, hurt me. There was only one explanation for that. He was my mate! A second chance mate! Was the Goddess playing a prank on me? With a half rejection with Gabe, it wasn't surprising that I got another mate but right now, I wondered which mate the Goddess wanted. “Get off me!” I yelled, trying to push him away but his grip on me was so tight, in fear that he also sensed the bond. He was strong as well but at the same time, his heartbeat was slowing down. He was dying! But that's none of my business, I tried to jab him but he held on. How could someone be on the verge of death and still be this strong? But as I looked into his eyes, I saw the desperation in them. His eyes were calling me in, like a magnet. I never felt this kind of pull with Gabe and to think I just met this second chance mate, what effect would he have on me? I realized that the effect of a fated mate was much more than a chosen one. I couldn't allow him to have this much effect on me, or else I would have no choice but to sacrifice him to the Moon Goddess. I'm sure she would be glad to receive two mates but that would be so cruel of me. That man right there, didn't deserve to die for my sake. And it was at this moment I realized I needed to get away but he held me down, tightly. “Please, just let me.” He said and before I knew it, he went for my neck. Oh, I knew immediately what he wanted to do! He was about to mark me to stop his death! It was common knowledge to get bound to someone to remain in this life. But even if he was dying, I couldn't be bound to just anyone, not after my last encounter. But at the same time, he wasn't letting me go and the mate pull was making me feel docile in his presence. The only thing I could do at this point was heal him. My heart could not let him continue to suffer. Was this what I was encountering after the Moon Goddess gave me a second chance? Was this what I was supposed to fulfill? So many thoughts ran in my head as I dispelled more energy, healing him. My body got weaker and my eyes got dimmer, I looked at the person on top of me with so much worry and anger, why did a mate have to appear now? I couldn't make out anything anymore as I passed out. ___ I didn't know how long had passed, my eyes opened and for a few minutes, my head was trying to recall all that happened. I was like a blank sheet that was gradually being stained as anger, dissatisfaction, and hatred crept into my heart. I felt like the Goddess had played a prank on me. “This is not happening!” I muttered as I jolted up from the bed to see that I was in a large and luxurious bedroom. I frowned, knowing this wasn't my Pack because we couldn't even afford this amount of luxury. I was still mulling over the whole place when the door opened up and a man so tall walked in. “You are awake.” He said with a small smile on his face and I swallowed. He looked majestic, strong and he radiated power and most of all, he was gorgeous. I felt my heart skip a beat and Kyra reacted. She was incredibly happy to see him like he was her happy pill. I also felt strongly pulled to him but then it clicked. These emotions just wouldn’t pop out of nowhere. His face overlapped with the bloody face and his voice was the same as the person I healed. I further confirmed that he was my mate and I could see the emotions whirling in his eyes too. I was calm, too calm, and he walked toward me to sit on the bed I felt the mate pull more strongly. “Thank you for saving me last night. You let me mark you!” I heard him say and I raised my brows. I realized he thought he successfully marked me and now he was thinking that the pull he had toward me was because of the marking. “Who are you?” I asked, first of all, I needed to know who he was so as to know how to deal with this situation. The burden of being saddled with two mates couldn't be joked with. “Really? You don’t know who I am?” He asked, a proud smirk growing on his face and I wanted to smack that out so much. “Am I supposed to?” I asked back, scoffing. “I am Roman Salvatore, I am the Lycan King.” He introduced himself and I could feel his powerful aura. I was surprised that he was the king, one I would never dream of meeting. Was this another ploy by the Goddess? However, a thought popped into my head. “How did you appear there? Weak and dying if you are the King. As far as I know, Lycans hate to go over their borders.” I questioned. “My Pack has been threatened by a few ambitious rogues and I only went out to deflect their attack,” he replied simply and I understood immediately. It had spread discreetly that the rogues were colluding with a few humans and they were taking Lycans, especially for some sort of experiments. How they were able to subdue Lycans was still a mystery to me. I wanted to ask Roman about it but which king would want to admit to his Pack’s weakness? I just nodded at his words, not saying anything else but I was already thinking of ways to get out of there. “I’m surprised you are this calm about what happened.” He said, looking impressed. “If I may ask, why were you out that late? It's certainly dangerous for you and weren't you with anyone else?.” He probed with a suspicious look in his eyes. “Why? Did you think I worked with the rogues? Why did you bring me here then? Do you want to use me as bait?” I asked, jokingly but deep down I was serious, knowing he was suspicious. “Nothing like that. I just thought it was weird to be there so late and it happened to save me. But then without you, I would be here. My Pack would probably be in disarray.” He replied as if he had not just indirectly suspected me and there was another intense look in his eyes. I realized that he was grateful for his life, more like he was worried about his Pack’s welfare. “I understand,” I said curtly. “A person of your status should be wary, especially with so many troubles on your land.” I flashed him an understanding smile. “Glad you understand, and now, I just want to repay you for saving my life, letting me mark you. I owe you one and I could move heaven and earth just to fulfill your wish as long as you stay mated to me.” He put his words forward calmly and I had to take a step back in thinking. One thing about marking a person to save one’s life was that it had its effects as well. If the marked person decides to go through rejection, the one who was supposed to die would feel double that pain felt on the verge of death and eventually die. The Alpha King before me obviously didn't want to die, he had a vast empire to rule and someone like him could be useful to me. And if he died because of me, it would indirectly fulfill my deal with the Moon Goddess. That was an easy pass for the soul deal but I would be greatly troubled. And realizing that he didn't know that we were mates and also didn't know that he didn't mark me, was an opportunity for me. Since I wasn't bound to him yet, he wouldn't get endangered and I can never let myself be bound to him, not before I sacrificed Gabe to the Goddess. I could never harm an innocent person. My Wolf wouldn't even let me, and right now, she was completely smitten by the King. I could feel her pull toward his Wolf and just as his wolf’s pull toward mine. His wolf’s dominance, love, and admiration toward my Wolf was evident through the pull. It made me drawn to the King but I suppressed it. There was no way I could fall for another person, whether he was innocent of my troubles or not. But then I wouldn't fail to exploit the benefits here. He was powerful, someone I could use as long as he let me. He wasn't worth dying for my deal. “Help me take revenge.” I declared as venom flashed through my eyes.
