Back And Forth

Jor Jette’s POV There was a heated stare between us as soon as I dropped the bomb. He probably wasn't expecting me to ask such a thing and I could see how surprised he was. I raised my brows at him, resting my back on the headboard. I waited for him to speak but he said no words even after a few minutes. “I see you are taking your time to process my words,” I said while my eyes moved around the room. I realized just how beautiful, minimal, and spacious the room was since I didn't look too much into it earlier. It wasn't just about luxury. “Do you like it?” I heard him ask and I turned to look at him with a confused gaze. “What do I like?” I inquired. “The room. I see the way you look at it, it makes me pleased that I made the right choice to place you here.” He said, a proud smile adorning his face. I realized that he had chosen the room while considering me. That thought made Kyra purr within me. Roman was her mate after all and she was pleased, however, I wouldn't let that continue. “Do not change the topic, Your Majesty,” I said, with a sneer not bothering to thank him for his kindness as well as suppressing Kyra’s energy. “If you want to keep me, so you could live, you have to do as I say.” I declared, a bit annoyed at him and Kyra. “Are you trying to threaten me?” He asked, with raised brows, and I could see his eyes turning dangerous by the second that passed. “Oh, no,” I said, almost immediately. I plastered a smile on my face, knowing it would do me no good to get on his bad side now. But I could do it, in another way. “But I could easily let go of my revenge, but you have a lot more to lose…” I said, my tone drowning out while I watched him from the side of my eye. Of course, I wouldn't let go of my revenge but if the King refused to help me, I could always find another way. But then, he would be dead without me. “I wonder just how many people will fight over your throne when you die.” I threw a jab at him and I could see his dangerous look was gone and a pleased smile was on his face. “I see you are not one to back down, huh? And you are fearless.” He uttered and then looked away from me. I followed his gaze to see he was staring at a huge painting in the room. It was the image of a throne surrounded by countless wolves. I guess I was right, after all, his throne was being coveted. “Your head would have rolled off your head since you wish me death so much.” He threatened, with a mild tone but it was my cue to stop speaking of his death and his throne. I took a deep breath, to steady myself and then chose my words carefully. “But you wouldn't do that, would you?” I asked. “Of course, not.” He replied and then looked at me, slightly. “What is your revenge about?” He asked. As soon as I heard that question, I contemplated telling him all that happened. All I wanted was his power but I doubted if he would make me use it without a proper explanation. Now, I only needed to tell him what he needed to know and not everything, and most especially, I had to be careful. I began, “I want revenge on my ex-mate.” My words were simple, yet he turned to look at me with a displeased and angry expression. “You had a mate?” He asked, almost giving off steam. “Yes, why are you so surprised?” I asked, with raised brows and then a frown. I started to think that he really knew that I was his mate. Did he find out? “I thought… I just thought you never had one. I didn't sense any bond on you while I was marking you.” He muttered, slowly and I nodded, accordingly. I was relieved that he still thought he marked me but there was one more thing to clarify. “Yes, I had a mate but he is my ex now. Also, I rejected him and we are not together anymore, our bond was broken completely.” I lied through my teeth while I glanced at him briefly. Firstly, I wasn't ready to lose face and let him know that I was rejected instead. Secondly, I couldn't let him know that my bond with my ex-mate, Gabe still existed. After all, I never accepted his rejection. “Oh, is that so? Is that why I found you in that graveyard? Were you distraught about your broken mate bond?” He chuckled and then looked at me, mockingly. He was certainly pleased about that. “Yes. He put me there. He tried to kill me and dumped my body there but I survived. Now, my Pack is in his hands. I need to take it back and pay him back in his own coin.” I said, as a venomous look flashed in my eyes and he saw that. He looked at me with a questioning gaze and I wondered what he was thinking. “Are you an Alpha? I have never heard of you. While you carry the charisma, you still do not look like one.” He said and I felt a bit insulted but I chose not to dwell on that because he was right. “My father is the Alpha of the Blue Wolf Pack. You should know what that means.” I uttered, looking at him with an embarrassed smile but I masked it in the next second. Every Alpha and even the King knew about how nonchalant my father was and I didn't need to hide. Roman nodded at him, not pursuing the topic further because he understood. “So, this ex-mate of yours, why don't we kill him and get it done? You could take out your father too and become the Alpha. That's about right.” Roman suggested but as he looked at me with such a serious gaze, I knew he wasn't joking. “I would like to punish the one who dared to lay his hands on you.” He declared and I gasped. The dangerous look in his eyes was obvious like he was going to punish someone who took his possession. I didn't want that. I wasn't his to possess and I would never be. Also, I wouldn't let him fight this battle for me. “I do not need you to kill him, I just need your power to kill him.” I declared.
