Frederick got home in a foul mood and barked at the security and the gardener; he didn't know why he was in such a lousy mood seeing her today, after five years of avoiding her.
Five good years. He was always giving one excuse or the other as to why he couldn't be with her. He lied to himself that he was just a man, but he knew in truth that he wasn't ready to see the lady his parents chose for him.
Frederick pours himself a drink and consumes it in one gulp, looking agitated and drumming with his fingers again; he wants to hate Annie so much, to avoid her for no reason, but seeing her today, changed something in him. Her innocent eyes, her smile, her voice. She was gorgeous, even with her brunette hair. She's a total beauty. Annie doesn't look like other girls; she seems very well reserved and highly educated for him.
He still didn't like that his parents chose her for me. He gave in to their whims five years ago, thinking they would grow tired after his disinterest in the girl. But it looked like the more he avoided her, the more they stepped up their games and stayed in touch with Annie's family. He wondered how his family could be so hot-headed. Right now, his father is not joking this time around.
He thought of Annie, how she'd have felt seeing him for the first time today. He didn't take any gifts with him. How foolish. He wonders how she must have supposed all those times when he couldn't "Meet up" for their planned dates and outings. He is a total jerk, and she must think so too by then.
Frederick couldn't even talk. He stuttered when he saw her and when she introduced herself, her voice melted his heart, and he knew he just had to get away from there before he made a fool of himself. That's why he walked out from the instant he laid his eyes on her.
‘Enough of Annie,’ He fired back at his thought.
He picked up his phone and called Jerry. It was a Friday night, and he needed to go out and clear his head. Jerry always knew the best places to go. The phone rings and Jerry answers on the second ring.
"Hey bro, what's up?" Jerry answers with his baritone voice.
"Hey Jerry, how are you? I'm okay."
"Freddie, I'm good. What do you have for me today?"
" I need a place to have a drink and clear my head. How about we head out for a boys' night out?"
"Cool, Freddie. I'll be at your office in 20 minutes."
Frederick hoped to get a lady to get his mind off Annie. He didn't know why seeing her made him so restless.
—
Frederick gets home real late, and he lets himself into the house, turns on the light, and is surprised to see Eva sitting in his chair. He needs to take away the spare key from her. She's abusing power. Imagine showing up at his house this late.
If she was here for s*x or company, he couldn't give it to her because he was exasperated and a little drunk. All he wants right now is to hit the bed and sleep.
"Eva, what are you doing here?"
"Freddie, darling, I came to see you." She quipped.
"It's 2 am. in the middle of the freaking night. Eva, what do you want? I know you don't care about me that much to show up without your other hidden intentions. So what's it? Do you need money?"
Eva smiled a wry smile. Her following words will break Frederick.
"I'm pregnant, darling, for you. And I intend to keep this baby."
Frederick is lost. He searches her face to see signs of suppressed laughter, to see maybe she wants to prank him, but her expression is deadpan serious. He knows that Eva is a mutual b***h for everyone but she’s right in front of him, lying to his face.
"How come you're pregnant? How is that even possible, Eva? I haven't touched you since the lab results showed that you have Chlamydia. That should be around four months ago. So how are you pregnant for me here?" Frederick asked, looking amazed at her.
Eva reached for her bag with a slight smile to her face, opened it, and brought out an envelope. She hands it over to Frederick. "Here. I knew you would argue, so I had proof before coming. You can take a look at it."
Frederick looked at the paper, and all he could see was nonsense written in poor handwriting. He rips the paper up.
"I don't believe you, Eva. You sleep with other men apart from me. How are you so sure this one is mine?" Frederick thunders at her, he could kill her for this kind of lie.
"Because it's yours, and I know. Plus, the lab results prove everything." She frowns at him.
"The results confirm that you're pregnant. It never said I'm the father. You liar, you finally got pregnant for one of your boyfriends, and now you want me to take responsibility. That's impossible, Eva. I can't. You'll need to go and look for the father of your baby." Frederick responded.
Eva stood there in silence. Her plan wasn't going as expected. She thought Frederick would be completely overpowered by the need for an heir and a wife, and he would welcome her with open arms. But this right here's a total mess, a total failure in her path.
"Please, you need to leave. I had a stressful day today; I need to rest. I have security escort you out. Make sure you don't forget anything. I don't want to see you around soon, Eva. You have a disease, and it seems like you're also developing some mental issues for trying to pin a child on me."
Roger, Frederick's bodyguard, sees Eva out by order of Frederick, then Frederick retires to his room.
