**Chapter VI - Combat: Battle Example**

621 Words
I believe the best way to illustrate how combat will work in this board game RPG (without a board... unless you grab some cardboard at home and a ruler and "quadricúleo" it, lol) is through an example. So, here's a battle example with illustrations afterwards for better understanding ;-). In this battle, Gordin - the brave, entered the treasure room and encountered an evil orc with two maces (one in each hand - of course) waiting for him!! The ORC's character sheet is as follows: ORC! Attack: D6/D6 (two maces) Defense: D6 Vitality: D8 (7 H.P) Movement: D6 Firstly, they both rolled for initiative (always a D6, except for some special cases that increase initiative), the ORC got 2, and GORDIN got 1 (What rubbish!), so the ORC starts! The ORC, equipped only with melee weapons and being on the other side of the room, made his movement roll to get closer to the dwarf warrior and rolled... 1! He only moved one square (poor guy stumbled!!). GORDIN, having throwing axes, decided to take a chance and throw one at the orc's cursed head! He rolled a 4 for his ranged attack. In his defense roll, the ORC also got a 4, successfully blocking the thrown axe with his maces. Again, the ORC moved (rolled a 3 this time) and advanced three squares! He's almost there now!!! (See the pictures to feel the adrenaline of the moment, lol!) The dwarf then decided to throw another axe just for variety (but rolled a 1! Rolling a 1 is always a mistake in this game! If you rolled a 1! YOU MISSED). Fed up, the ORC decided to throw one of his maces at GORDIN. Since a mace is not a throwing weapon, the ORC uses his mace attack -1, meaning D6-1 (but he also rolled a 1... he threw the mace to the sidelines... He's left with only one now). In this comically lackluster battle, where it seems both are hungover, GORDIN decided to get revenge and get close to his opponent. His movement is D4, and guess what!!! He rolled a 1!!! Hahaha! To summarize, the ORC moved again (rolled a 3 this time), and GORDIN wielded his axe and attacked! His axe is D10 (but he rolled a 1, missed!). The ORC counterattacked. Now he's left with one mace (D6), managed to roll a 3! But hit GORDIN's armor (who rolled a 5 in defense - rolls a D8, see his character sheet in Chapter 2 – Building Your Character)! Note: If Gordin's armor, the brave dwarf, were one level higher, meaning an iron armor, the ORC would have had an advantage in his attack for using a mace. In that case, his damage would be 6, and Gordin would have taken 1 damage from the "crushing" of the armor. But Gordin's chainmail is still malleable, lol! GORDIN 1 AGAIN!!! ORC 7!!! GORDIN IN DEFENSE = 3 (7-3=4) GORDIN took a mace hit to the arm and lost 4 Vitality. Since he has 12, he now has 8! Fury! This special move isn't on GORDIN's character sheet, but I decided to swap it from the others there... After all, FURY is something GORDIN must have!! (See the barbarian's character sheet in previous chapters to know how it works!) In his fury, Gordin rolled a D12 and got a 12!!!!! !!! The ORC only got a 3 on the die and danced! He was beheaded without mercy by GORDIN's axe!!! The dwarf won over the evil ORC!!! Taking the spoils of the battle... There you go! The end of this battle with serious budget constraints and second-hand embarrassment, lol! Notes: Gordin is "Thor," and the Orc is the "Green Goblin," lol!
