Bella's POV -
Once we get to the farmers market, there is a great variety of salads. I go for my "go to", which is a simple garden salad loaded with tomatoes and French dressing. I spot James coming back from the mini donut truck and just laugh. "What?!" he asks "Nothing, just you are so unhealthy every time we get lunch, where do you put it all?" I joke. "Wouldn't you like to know Bella" He responds, making me blush a little, luckily I have my sunglasses on so they should hide my cheeks. I don't know too much about James, since we only have time at lunch to talk and most of the time is spent discussing patients or upcoming cases. The only things that I know about him is he went to college in Minnesota where his family lives and did his residency at Mayo hospitals and clinics, he loves to wear the color blue, and he has a dog named Nina.
Since lately things have been calm, I ask him "If you had to choose between working here or Johns Hopkins what would you choose?" "What Bella! are you asking me about something that is not related to work?" He asks, holding his chest. I just laugh and I can feel a blush creeping up my cheeks but push it down. "Hmmm, I would have to say stay here, there are plenty of attractive doctors at Johns Hopkins, but there is only me here" He states matter of factly. I just roll my eyes and say "Aren't we a little full of ourselves huh?" "Well, since you asked me a question non work related do I have to ask you one?" he asks while smirking. "It is only fair", I reply.
"Will you go on a date with me this Friday?" He asks, looking into my eyes. 'noooo' Novah says through our mind link but I block her. "When and where?" I state. He gets this cheeky smile and those dimples can make any woman's heart stop. I just respond with a soft smile. The questions kept flowing. I learned that he has 2 younger sisters He travels back to Minnesota for all holidays. He had been in 3 serious relationships, with the last one ending 2 years ago, and since then he has not been looking for anything serious(of course back peddling after he said it). The biggest thing that intrigues me about James is his ongoing self confidence. As a werewolf it is generally only alphas who seep that kind of confidence, but here I am with this human who knows his worth. It's very refreshing.
Once we both finish our lunches, it is time to head back to the office. The rest of the day flies by once the clock hits 5:oopm I hear the girls holler back to me and say goodbye. Next Esther knocks on my door asking if I need anything before she leaves. "No, I am just wrapping some things up". I smile at her. James comes in, he already has his coat on and is ready to head out "Staying late?" he asks. Looking up I say "Yeah have to get my orders in for the month, have a good night!" He walks around my desk and looks at the computer, then in a flash he gives me a kiss on my cheek. "À demain!" meaning see you tomorrow in French, he walks out. I have got to be as red as the tomatoes I was eating for lunch! That is the first time he has ever shown any affection towards me and my heart probably just stopped.
After 3 more hours of work, I check my email one more time and I have one from James, "I know you haven't fixed your Wi-Fi, drive safely and I will see you in the morning." You know that feeling you get in your stomach like butterflies, that is how I feel! I have not had that feeling since my relationship with Chris. I was with him 3.5 years, all of high school, then in college I had some flings but nothing serious especially since I was so young. I was focused on my studies. Then, when I moved here, I was trying to build a career and work on my house. I hadn't even thought of dating until now. 'your going to break his heart if we ever find our mate' Novah speaks up, I respond ' He would need to fall for me first, it is just a date Novah we need the practice' ' I know we are rusty. I just wish we would have found him' She responds in almost a whisper before going to back of my mind. Little does she know I wish that everyday.
