Chapter 1 Who am I
I woke up in a hospital, surrounded by medical personnel and machinery. Drip lines were attached to my body, and I had no idea why I was there. A doctor's voice echoed through the room, "She's awake!" and media vultures swarmed outside the glass door, trying to snap exclusive photos.
"Teffy!" a girl around my age called out, rushing in and giving me a warm hug. "How are you?" she asked, her eyes welling up with tears. "I've missed you so much. I thought you weren't going to make it."
"Who are you?" I asked, still trying to clear the fog from my mind.
"Teffy, don't you remember me?" she asked, looking shocked. "I'm Tamika, your best friend. We've known each other since forever."
I shook my head, and she showed me a photo of a couple. "Do you know them?" she asked.
I shook my head again, and her eyes filled with tears. "Don't worry, Teffy. You'll get your memories back," she said, trying to comfort me.
The doctor stepped in, explaining that I had suffered brain damage and lost most of my memories. "We'll do everything we can to help you recover, Teffy," he said.
Tamika took my hand and began telling me about my life. "You're Teffy Coker, a 16-year-old high school student from a wealthy family. You were on your way back from Florida when you were involved in a plane crash that killed your parents."
I was stunned. "That can't be true," I said, shaking my head. "I'm an orphan. I live with my adopted mother."
Tamika's eyes welled up with tears again. "I'm so sorry, Teffy. I know this is a lot to take in. But I'm here for you, and I'll help you get through this."
Just then, a young man rushed into the room, trying to avoid the paparazzi. "Teffy, it's me, Jake – your older brother," he said, hugging me and kissing my cheek.
I was shocked. "I have a brother?" I asked, still trying to process everything.
Jake smiled. "Yeah, sis. I'm here for you. We'll get through this together."
The doctors told Jake I could be discharged, and he took me to a luxurious mansion in a Porsche. As we drove up to the house, I couldn't help but feel overwhelmed. The interior was opulent, with gold accents everywhere.
"Welcome home, Teffy," Jake said, helping me out of the car.
I nodded, still trying to take it all in. As I lay on my new bed, I felt exhausted. "I think I need some rest," I said, yawning.
Jake nodded. "Get some rest, sis. We'll talk more later."
I nodded and drifted off to sleep, still trying to make sense of my new life.
