Chapter 5

Ignacio is trying to be fine, but he can’t. He was defeated already by the viruses inside his body. There’s one symptom existed on his body, still everyone don’t know what next symptoms might erect. Ignacio body is full of red spot with black spot in the center, its look like an eye of the lizard. Ignacio is too old, he can’t fight the millions of viruses inside his body since he is the only one who fight against it.

Nadia is not yet prepared to tell it to Kurt, and it is better to keep it as a secret. Kurt, always on asking how’s the result but Nadia keep on lying just to calm down Kurt and not to think bad, since they are on their examination how to save Ignacio.

Since Kurt and Nadia was not able to have their dinner last night because Nadia is with Luke and Kylie celebrated Luke’s birthday. Nadia asked only Kurt to go in her house to have some dinner since she prepared foods for both of them. “Since we are not able to have our dinner last time, let’s have it this night. Let’s just imagine that we are on a restaurant. Actually, I am only with dog in this house.” Nadia said, and serve some foods to Kurt’s plate. “You have to eat some vegetables, since it is need to your health and to be more intelligent of your work.”

“You’re just alone in this house? Are you not afraid?”

“Nope. Actually, I have only one sitter but she is not around, have some vacation in the province. But, actually—I sometimes sleep on my office, when I feel tired going home.”

“I see.” Kurt frightened when he feel something on his legs, something colds rubbing, and he realized that it was Nadia’s dog. “Gosh, it startled me.”

“It will not bite.” She get the dog and put it beside her. “It’s cute right? Like me.”

“Yeah—

Silence separate them both. They just focus on their dinner.

“Kurt, are you hoping that your father will be alright after all?” Nadia asked curiously and seriously. She just want to know how much Kurt will be affected if not.

“Yeah, I hope a lot and I trust you that you can save my father. As what happened to Mia will not happen to my father right?”

Mia is Nadia’s patient who die one month ago. Nadia already move-on about that incidents. She already forget it since someone still waiting for her.

“You should minimize your expectation.”

“What do you mean?”

“Ah…I mean…..you will get hurt if it is too much.”

“Why? Are you can’t help my father?”

“No…it….doesn’t mean. We are on our examination since we are not yet identify which your father has. But, I guess it is complicated virus since it give us difficulty.”

Kurt’s phone ringing and it make the surrounding silence for a while. Maybe it is an important since Kurt is on higher standard of work which they need to be more critical and always updated.

“Kurt, someone’s died here in the bar. I need you to bring one doctor that can identify this victim.”

“Okay, just text me the address and I’m coming now.” Kurt quick on fixing himself, get his polo being hanging on the chair. “You need to go with me.” He requested Nadia.

“Why—

Nadia was not able to complete her talk since they need to leave and walk fast. An important task that Kurt need to determine and investigate since he is a prosecutor this time. Nadia just followed as what Kurt asked or did. Nadia, as a doctor she always bring with him her sling bag, which contains of first aid treatment and equipment just for an emergency.

They went in bar that is crowded. Cops are parking outside securing the place. Before they going inside Kurt and Nadia show their I.D to the security that identify them as personnel. They went inside the bar, and they saw a soulless body, getting wet on its own blood and laying floor.

“What happened to him?” Kurt asked.

The victim is a man, around thirty years old. The incidents is not yet identify what are the reasons behind on it, and how this victim being killed. Everyone who are inside during the incident was gathered by the cops outside for an investigation. “Do not touch it yet.” Kurt said since his assistant try to touch it.

“I need to check his pulse.” Nadia said, and kneel down beside the victim. She get her hand gloves and a stethoscope on her sling bag and everyone surprised as what Nadia did. They are just get surprised and realized how Nadia being prepared. “The victim is still breathing.” She get the all the first aid treatment and cure all the wounds that the victim has for the meantime while waiting the ambulance.

“The victim is alive and then all the treatment I put on his body is just temporary. You can’t investigate him right now, since he need an operation. You can investigate him after, and you can interview as well. For now, you need to investigate someone outside who are inside during the incidents.” Nadia said, and requested the rescuer to get the victim inside the ambulance. “Tell the doctors to take perform quickly the operation. The victim’s wound is not really too much, and they can take care for it.” Nadia instructed one of the nurse who is with the ambulance.

Nadia is coming with Kurt for an investigation. Kurt take an interview and investigate everyone. Someone caught Nadia’s attention. She saw Kylie who is with the others.

“Kylie, why are you here?” Nadia asked and hold Kylie, since Kylie is almost crying and panic, afraid to put in jail.

“Nadia, please help me. Help to get out from here.” Kylie is almost crying.

“What happened? Why are you that nervous and emotional? Did you know who try to kill the victim?”

“No—I don’t know the victim. I just want to get out from here since I am innocent.”

“Do you know her?” Kurt insisted.

“Yes, she is my friend.” Nadia answered.

“Okay—everyone are telling the truth and I see on their face that they are really innocent. You can leave now and go home.” Kurt said to Kylie. Kylie just give her uncomfortable smile and already leave.

Early in the morning, the hospital is full of cops and one of them is Prosecutor Kurt. They will going to have an interview to the victim. Nadia is not with them because she’s getting the result of the operation and its condition.

“Don’t be afraid. I am here to help you. I am here to take an interview on what happened last night.” Kurt said and sit beside the patient. He get his small pocket notebook and a pen to take down all the victim statement. While his secretary having a video recording for the support evidence during the due process.

The victim shed his tears, just like a child who cried being scolded by mother. And Kurt remember on how he get scolded by his father after not doing his father’s dream for him. “Papa, its hurt.” Kurt crying while his father keep on scolding him. He hide on his mother duster while his mother try to stop his father. “Stop it, Ignacio. Your son is hurt. You don’t even feel mercy on him.” His mother said. “He need to know some lesson by not following me. I just only want him to be a doctor like me. To save us from illness.”

“But he don’t want that. You know already that he want to be a doctor.” Her mother trying to protect him. His father stop on scolding while Kurt is still hiding on his mother’s duster and crying.

“Can you give me your personal information?” Kurt asked to the victim.

“I am Liam Horan, twenty-six years old. A social worker for ten years and I came from Quezon City.” The victim said while Kurt writing down as what it’s said.

“Can you tell me about what happened last night? Were just trying to get some statement of you if you don’t want. We are hand off by your case. We’re just here to help you and find the suspect.”

“There is no doubt on me to tell the truth. Since this time you already here, I’m going to tell you what happened…….My girlfriend tried to kill me and I don’t know what the reasons are.”

Kurt surprised as what Liam said. He is just confuse, why his own girlfriend had an intention to kill him.

“She use a knife and punch it into my whole body, five times. I was not able to shout since she put poisoned on my wine. And it cause me to be fainted and fall the ground. That time, everyone didn’t recognize us since she bring in the dark corner not to see us before. I want you to catch her and put her in jail.”

“Who is she?”

“Kylie Gaston.”

“How’s your relationship with her?”

“I proposed her and invite her to a marriage, one week ago. She is happy after knowing it since we last two years. And I am happy as well since she is my dream woman to be with forever. She is a kind of woman who made me happy when I’m sad and a relief when I’m stress. But everything turn to an incidents. She’s trying to kill without knowing some reason.”

“Okay thank you for your testimony. Tomorrow, I’m going to finalize everything for the due process. There is no problem with a prosecutor, because I volunteered myself as your prosecutor. While doing it, I’m going to ask some cops to find Kylie Gaston. And put her in jail according to the deal. I’ll be leaving now.” Kurt leave Liam crying. Punching himself, like he’s regretting so much. He regretting that she meet and know Kylie Gaston.

Kylie Gaston, is Nadia’s friend. But Nadia didn’t know about it. Which her friend get involved to a crime.

Kurt meet Nadia in the balcony of the hospital. Having refreshment again, but not only a refreshment but a date as well. Not a couple date but a friend’s date. As usual, Kurt bring with a two cups of coffee, one for Nadia and one for him.

“How’s the interview? It’s all fine?” Nadia asked.

“Yes! It’s a relief as well, when I know that Liam is fine already.”

“Who is Liam?”

“The victim! And thanks to God since I already the suspect. Geez, it really touch my nerve knowing that the suspect is his girlfriend and soon to be wife. Her name is Kylie Gaston.”

Kylie Gaston?

Nadia get shocked when she heard the named Kylie Gaston who is her friend. She get startled about it. Her eyesight getting blurred and her heart beat so fast just like she is the one who get affected on it. She accidentally dropped the cup of coffee. “What? Kylie Gaston?” she curiously asked. She pretend that she didn’t hear everything.

“Why you reacted like that? Did you know her?”

“No…I don’t know here. She’s strange on me.” Nadia murmuring and nodded.

“Okay—I just want to ask your help if you know Kylie Gaston. Since we are now on searching for her.”

“Oh sure. You can trust me. But I don’t make sure that I can find her.”

“It doesn’t mean, I want you to find her. All I want is that to spread about Kylie Gaston. Maybe some of your friends, relatives, co-workers know her. And they are welcome to report on me. This is my business card.” He give his business card on Nadia for just in case of emergency or an update.

Nadia quickly and leave Kurt in the balcony. She never say goodbye that she will leave. And Kurt just let her maybe she has something to do or she is busy this time.

Nadia, feel exhaustion and confusion when she heard that her friend is a killer. She’s trying not to believe it but it seems true. When she hear all about Kylie, she feel discouraged and disappointed on her. How she can tell it to Kylie? Or to Luke? It seems like she’s affected as well sine Kylie is her close-friend. She can’t get over with this, so she get her phone and dial Kylie’s number. It ring four times but no one answer her call. It was rejected or hang up. She repeatedly dial it until she get irritated without answering her call. She just call Luke instead.

“Hello? Luke, did you know where is Kylie this time? Actually, she didn’t answer my call. Almost I waste my load.”

“I don’t know. She just tell me that she will go to abroad for a vacation. That’s what I know. Why?”

“She’s a murder.” Nadia directly said. And even in just a call, Nadia know how Luke reacted. The same as her also that she get confuse and can’t settle down herself.

“What? What do you mean? Haha…I won’t believe you since it just a false rumors.”

“Luke, listen to me. I’m telling you the truth. If you will believe or not, everything is true. I ask you not to spread about her since we will going to hide as her protection as well.”

“Nadia, listen to me as well. Kindly, don’t spread false rumor? It will ruin our relationship, if you don’t want it to happen. Kindly stop believing someone. Maybe there’s someone who’s trying to ruin our friendship.”

“Luke, I’m not wrong. Again, I’m not going to repeat it. Kylie is the most wanted woman in our town. She was accuse by having intention to kill her boyfriend at the bar. All this news I have said is came from her boyfriend Liam.”

“Believe me, Nadia. Liam is a kind of guy who spread fake news. She just use to accuse Kylie, since he has nothing to do. Where is Liam?”

“He is there in the hospital—

“I’m going you to kill him. Inject him a poison. You need to find ways how to do it.”

“What?” Nadia shocked. “How? I can’t do it. I don’t want to kill someone. Maybe I will be put in jail if they know.”

“When no choice, but to do it. Just for Kylie’s sake. Just do everything I have commanded.”

“No. I will not do it. It is better to keep in silence, not to tell where is Kylie instead of killing someone just to hide everything.”

“It’s up to you, on how you will make Kylie safe and protected.” Luke hang up the call.

Nadia kneeled down the floor, holding her chest seems like she can’t breathe and aching is heart. Nadia is a weak person, just one tapped she will be knocked down. Nadia seems to be cried but she force herself not to cry. She don’t want to be affected, but how she can do it since Kylie is her friend. The only thing that she can do is to follow what’s on her mind. Which to keep on silent and just listen as what Kurt being said. She will going to deny everything if someone will recognize her as Kylie’s friend.

Early in the morning, Nadia spend her time in the testing room to study Ignacio condition. She was alone this time, no one’s around the room. That is why, she think about Kylie. “Kylie, bring it to Luke.” Nadia requested Kylie to give the gift to Luke since she is busy for her patient. This happened two months ago, when Nadia’s patients is alive. “Nadia, I love you.” Kylie’s word that Nadia can’t ever forget. Kylie spoke it when she get drunk. Still Nadia believe it, even Kylie is drank. When Nadia, asked Kylie early in the morning to make sure she’s love her, because this time she is not drank anymore. “No. did I say anything?” Kylie pretend not to know. What? What a heck? Nadia is woman that everyone should pity her. Nadia made a coffee for a hang-over to Kylie.

Nadia use to slap herself to avoid imagining the moments she was with Kylie. Since, this time seems she goes crazy, minding about Kylie. She fold her both hands, like she want to punch out to express her emotion of being mad and anger. Something popped up her mind. Like she want to make the case more complicated. She think that what if she will going to kill Liam, just for the sake of her friends. But what if they will find out that she kill Liam. Perhaps, she will be out in jail instead. So, she slap again her face to avoid that unreliable tips, it won’t help her after all. She keep on thinking on what to do, but the end she will be fail. Failure. A failure in life that she will regret after—

She bumped herself down on her narrow bed. Exhaustion, problematic, madness, and hungry, she experience it all. Her stomach bubbling like it ask for foods. She push it to stop but it doesn’t. She have her glance around her room to find some foods but she can’t find.

She irrritatedly stood up from her bed. Wear her pajama and went out to her dorm. She will going to find a restaurant where she can eat, and forget all of her problem this night. She drive her Limousine and park it outside the restaurant she have planned to it. She take some order. She ordered lot of foods since she is hungry.

A woman, made from water. But it doesn’t mean she is a goddess of water. Because her talent is in water. Surfing. A surf-girl from Canada. One of the famous woman there. Carrie Kuda, twenty-four years old, a Canadian but she likes Filipino. And also came from in a complicated relationship. So let just say, an ex-girlfriend already, since they forgot each other but she went back to Philippines to visit her boyfriend and to apologize. Her boyfriend named Kurt Joaquin, a prosecutor who is friend with Nadia and have a kissed with her.

Tonight, the first night of Carrie Kuda here in the Philippines. She is with her friend Mia, her personal assistant as well. They have their dinner in the restaurant where Nadia is. She wear her short-ten inches above the knee and sleeveless skirt and a sweater. She looks like gorgeous. That is Kurt fall in love with her a year ago, but not they are separated because Carrie choose her career over Kurt. That is why everything is a choice.

They occupied the table beside Nadia’s table. Carrie flip her hair backward when she seated. Like she reject everything. She hold the spoon and pork, pointing out her small finger. And eat like a luxurious one. Though, she is a woman who belong to luxury but she should pay respect to the restaurant since the restaurant they are is not really luxury by the same as that. Some gossiping around but Carrie give her fierce look and ignore it all.

“Mia, after this night. I want you to set up some hotel for our stay. It should be practical, like inside the room is complete, neat and clean as well. Make sure everything is secure or else you will get paid all the mess or lost.” Carrie flip again her hair when it trying to cover her eyes.

“But, Carrie. We almost consume twenty hotels here just for our rest. Can I ask something? Like let’s stay in a hotel forever until we were leaving here in the Philippines because I’m already tired of it.” Mia turned her face to regretting, like she’s trying to beg Carrie.

“It’s simple, Mia. If you are tired you can leave alone. And don’t follow me anymore. Because I am here to find Kurt, okay.” Her voice tuned-up and Nadia heard to it. That is why she stared Carrie and Mia curiously.

“Carrie, you’re too noisy. Kindly keep quiet, everyone are watching us.” Mia said.

Carrie take a glance before her quiet. She grasp Nadia who still looking at them. She stared it too badly. And rolled her eyes back to Mia. “A girl who is at the back. Who has strange look, she keep on staring at us. Perhaps she is insecure of my beauty or what that I have. Because actually, look at her she looks nothing. Man will never fall in love, and it’s obvious on her look. In fairness, she has her beauty but not really quite. She’s out of my standard.” Carrie said, flip her hair again.

“Yeah, she’s out of your standard. And in my standard as well.” Mia flip her hair also.

“Hey, know what. To tell you honestly, you are out of her standard. She is beautiful than you and maybe she is intelligent than you.” Carrie stared at Mia too badly and rolled her eyes again.

“Yeah, I know. Actually, Carrie don’t judge the book by its cover. Maybe she is just look haggard this night because of being stress or what. Maybe tomorrow she will turn being beautiful and she will defeat you.” Mia rolled her eyes.

“Shut your mouth, or I’m going to slap you there.” Carrie get mad.

“Okay.” Mia covered her mouth, like a dog being in silent.

Carrie get her bag beside her and stood up. “Let’s go, I need a beauty rest tonight. And tomorrow we will visit Kurt at Hansang Prosecutor Office because I feel excitement to meet him.” She glared and rolled her eyes out to Nadia. Mia open the sliding glass window for Carrie. Mia should not complain everything about her task, since she is just a personal assistant to a celebrity.

They choose to stay in Daebok Alemania Hotel, just for one night. These hotel is the most visited in the Philippines. Sizes of the room is good for ten person. Each room contains kitchen, living room, dining room, bed room, and bathroom. Almost like a house. But Carrie were not satisfy seeing this. Mia, feel tired, and stress because of Carrie being demanding boss.

Carrie directly bumped herself on the wide-brimmed bed. Fall asleep and snore like a pig. What an ashamed? A discourageble matter. Mia are the one who take off her bag from her shoulder, her heels and covered it with a blanket. She looks a royalty woman. Mia bumped herself in the couch, since she I not allowed beside Carrie because it’s private. She snore as well. Actually, they usually snore if they are tired or being stress but at the same time they doesn’t snore if they haven’t experience anything that make them burden in a day. They are both tired because they spend long hours of travel going here in the Philippines.

Late in the morning, Mia woke up first and still Carrie is sleeping. She’s not allowed to disturb maybe it will get mad if she will do it. She just prepare foods for their breakfast. What a challenge for Mia? They alarm clock, that was on the table beside Carrie rang loudly and it make her frightened and woke up being angry printed on her face. “Mia, why you didn’t wake me up?” She shouted. Actually, she will going to wake up before the alarm. But she forgot Mia to inform her. That is why she wake up after and already late. “How dare you, Mia. You’re an irresponsible P.A I’ve known.” Scream again. She get rid to the bathroom to take some shower, while she commanded Mia to prepare everything she need.

She wear her short-heaven shirt and a ripped-black jeans. She drive her car through Daesang Prosecutor Office. She will going to meet the guy, she missed. She bring with her a peace and surprise offerings. To look being formal, she put to the gifts that is suitable on Kurt’s taste. Since they have their relationship a years ago, so she already what is suitable to him or even his favorite. She walk through Kurt’s office, chinning-up, flipping her hairs every side-by-side, winking on some who look at her. Someone are looking at her not because of her beauty but they look strange to her. Because it’s first time seeing her being like this who is flirt outside but don’t know inside.

She meet Kurt’s assistant in the elevator. Assistant Yap look at her, head to toe. Also him, he look strange to Carrie. “Can I know, where’s the room of Prosecutor Kurt?” Carrie flirty asked.

“Why? You know him?” Ass. Yap didn’t know what to say because also him surprised of Carrie’s beauty.

“Yes. And I want to meet him. I am her girlfriend, don’t you.” she rolled her eyes back again.

“Okay, just follow me.” Ass. Yap bring Carrie to Kurt’s office. He doublty bring Carrie, because he think maybe she is a scammer or a blackmailer or a kidnapper. That is why, he was out of his mind. He just continue bring Carrie to the office.

Prosecutor Kurt shocked about what he see. He meet Carrie. He stood up to bring out Carrie outside. He rejectedly hold hand way out. “Why are you here? Did I told you to meet me?” Kurt getting mad already. He’s not mad because meet him but because Carrie didn’t informed him that she will come.

“Just surprised.” Carrie opened her arm widely for a hug. She hug Kurt but he trying to stopped her.

“You should not do it. Did you forgot already of what you did to me? You throw me away and choose your career over me. How can you explain that? I already forgot you and you are not in my mind already.” Kurt directly open. He just want to make it quick since he has his work today and he is busy. “So, leave now. I don’t want to see you anymore. And this is the last okay?” he went back inside his office and leave Carrie outside who already shedding its tears. He locked the door so she can’t open it and disturb him. Ass. Yap and Sec. Erica looks like being intrigue. He bumped himself into his chair and being disappointed and mad is printed on his face.
