Chapter 9

For the last time, Nadia and Kurt meet in a restaurant. They have something to talk. Maybe, Nadia want to apologize or she will going to finalize that she will going to avoid her. Being sad, was painted to Kurt’s face. They just have coffee in front of them. Kurt, stared at her too serious. Begging her to stay with him.

“I want you to know, that I get hurt when I meet Carrie. Actually, this is not my first time seeing and meeting her. I meet her when the last time I throw coffee on her dress. Yes, we’re fighting. But I stop myself. I feel Carrie this time, on how she felt after knowing that both of us are together. I know she get hurt and suffer pain thinking of you. You’re the one for her. Yeah, I confess. I don’t want to leave you because I love you. I promise to myself that I can be your girlfriend soon. But after knowing that Carrie is coming before us. I lost my appetite. Kurt hope you respect my decision.”

Kurt her hands under the table and caress it. “I beg you stay. I want to marry you, if you want this time to avoid Carrie and she will not going after us if we’re getting married.”

“Kurt, I promise to myself that I’m going to pay attention to my family. Before paying attention to others. It doesn’t mean, I don’t want to see you. But I want you to give chance to Carrie.”

“No. she waste the chance that I give to her. Lots of chances I give but still it doesn’t work at all. I promise to myself to follow you until the day you will accept me and open your heart to let me in. That’s what I want.”

“Kurt.” She caress Kurt’s face. “Please.” She shed her tears but Kurt wipe it.

“Don’t cry, baby. Please, stay.”

“There’s something you need to know. I know, if you know this you will avoid me and leave me. I am sick. I have my illness, still I don’t know what happened? I don’t know what are the cause? Still I’m on my examination.”

“No. I will not leave you even though you have your illness. It’s good to hear because I can care for you.”

“Kurt, I know you love me most and I love you as well. Kurt, if you don’t want, I will let you but I will do what I want for the good sake.”

Nadia, stood up and started to walk. Kurt wasn’t able to stop him, something like there’s someone who hold him to stop. And Nadia, cried of what she did. She want to hug him but she feel ashamed. She doubted walking out the door. And drive her car back to the hospital.

In the hospital, she find out that Luke is waiting for her outside. Luke smiled and wave at her. She replied. Luke hug her when they are close together, and walk inside the hospital. They are going together to Nadia’s office. “I miss you so much. It’s been a day, that we don’t have fun to each other.”

“Yeah, it’s because I feel tired. Maybe tonight, we can hang out after my work. You don’t have work this time?”

“I have, but I plan to sign a resignation because I want to transfer here.”

“As in. Good to hear. I’m excited, because I want to work while with you. Because I feel alone since I lost Kylie.”

“Nadia, you have something to know.”

“What is that?”

“Actually, I keep it because I’m afraid to confess everything. Maybe, they will reject it. This was I felt ever since.” He slowly pulled Nadia on her chest. Act to kiss her. Nadia don’t know what to do. She’s froze and stand like a statue. They both close their eyes. Luke, slowly pulled his face Nadia. But someone who slam the door loudly, that them stop and go back to the reality.

“Patient who is in critical condition, is on the way within five minutes, Professor.” Ana gets panic.

“I will be there for a seconds.” She fix herself, wear her doctor’s suit. “I have to go, someone need my help. Pardon.” She quickly went to the OR and went for the patient. Luke, just walking while following her.

After five minutes, the patient is coming. A man who was shoot by a gun. They put the patient on the rolling bed and bring it to the OR. Nadia, run after them. In the OR, everyone were asked to prepare for the operation. Nadia, fix herself and then take a deep breath. She gets surprised when Luke approach her, who’s wearing a doctor’s suit, hand gloves, hair net and a face mask.

“What are you doing here?”

“The patient is need to be healed within thirty-five minutes. And you can’t do it alone, since it’s critical.”

“How did you know?”

“I saw it on his look, on how he gets suffer after losing bloods. Prepare everything, the operation will be start right now.” He quickly get the scalpel and slice the wounds being shoot by a bullet. Nadia, get surprise of what he did. “I found the bullet, give me the forceps.” Luke requested, Nadia give it instead.

Nadia, found out that the patient’s pulse didn’t work anymore. “The ventricular fibrillation.” She shouted, and perform the CPR. It takes ten minutes before its rate getting normal. Then, Luke continue the operation.

“We have twenty minutes left.” Nadia informed.

“I need twelve inches of tube.” Luke requested, all of what he needed is all Nadia’s care of. Luke put the tube on the veins of the patient. “Prepare five bags of blood.” Nadia hang up the blood in the elevated area. Then, Luke connect the tube on the bag, and it helps the blood flow on the veins. “Patient is running of her blood. We need to add some more.”

“Ten minutes left.” Nadia said. Luke started to stitch each wounds for finishing. After the operation being successful, everyone are applauding themselves for doing their best. Luke and Nadia together went out in the OR.

“I’m tired.” Luke take a deep breath and shut himself on the bench on the corner.

“Thanks for your help. You made the operation within time.”

“Your welcome. What’s up? Want some dinner tonight?”

“Sure. What’s time is it?”

“It’s seven already, time for dinner.” Together looking at his wristwatch.

After fixing themselves, Luke drive for her to the restaurant where they have their dinner. Since, Luke save the man’s life a while ago. Nadia treat him, for a thanksgiving. She bought all foods for their dinner and drinks as well.

“Tomorrow, I’ll be going home. I’ll be going to the province to meet my mother. Since it’s been a long time I didn’t meet them.” Together eat her foods.

“I can go with you. Since I have one week of rest.”

“Sure, maybe I’ll be leaving early in the morning, four a.m. So I can go there around six a.m. And I can spend the rest of my time with them.”

“No, problem. I can sleep in your house instead. So, I can go with you early,”

“Sure. That’s no problem.”

After the dinner, they went home directly. Luke, asked the security in the hospital to secure Nadia’s car because she can’t get it this time, since it’s already late in the evening. Since the hospital is open twenty-four seven, nothings to worry. They went home, seriously. Nadia turning on the switch of the light. She bumped herself on the couch and turn on the TV. She’s getting sleepy, trying to close her eyes while watching movie. “How cute you are with that look?” Luke uttered. Until, Nadia asleep. Luke carry her through her room.

In the room, Nadia woke up so suddenly. Luke surprised as what happened to her. Nadia pushed Luke on her bed, and crawl from above to Luke’s body. She’s getting horny this night. Luke trying to stop her but she didn’t even listen. She wear off Luke’s shirt and suddenly, kiss Luke’s body down on his waist. They are not drunk this night. Luke don’t know what to do. Since he is a man who deserve to be like that, he just follow as what Nadia did to him.

Nadia, pulled the button of Luke’s pants. She open it until the Luke’s wearing his underwear. What a bald legs. Nadia caress his crazy pet. And then she kiss back on Luke’s body. Luke moaned. He’s getting horny as well. He gets surprised when Nadia stood up and wear off everything, and she get naked this time. She flip her hair before she take a ride with Luke. Luke wear off his underwear. He can’t control his feelings this time. That is why, they created a one night stand.

Early in the morning, Nadia woke up without wearing something, she just cover herself with blanket. She found out that Luke’s is not around. She quickly wear a shirt and an underwear and search for Luke on the living room. It’s seven o’clock in the morning, and they are late already. She found out Luke in the kitchen preparing for their meal.

“We’re late already.” She uttered.

“That’s why I prepare for a breakfast. You can take a bath then eat. I will just follow so we can leave as early.”

Nadia, grabbed a towel and went on the bathroom. She takes twenty minutes of taking a bath. Then followed by Luke. They eat together. And leave now. The ride will take too long, so they need to bring foods in case of emergency.

On the ride, they are taking. Nadia was sitting at the back while Luke who drive.

“Did you remember, what happened last night?” Nadia asked.

“Yes. I know we both love those stand. And I don’t regret it all. I want to confess, that since our childhood time, I already admire you. I wish to have you in my whole life. I only need you, Nadia.”

“Luke, please let’s just be friend. Someone who confess his feelings and I don’t want to reject it. Since, I really realize that were destined to each other.”

“Who? Is that Kurt? I really regretted that I keep this feelings. If not, maybe were now together.”

“Luke, it doesn’t what I mean. I want to remain our relationship as a friend. Please.” Nadia caress Luke’s shoulder. “Please, let’s not fight for it. Let’s focus on our destination. Luke, focus on driving.”

“How about that one-night-stand? What do you mean by that? We both did it, it means we have our feelings to each other. Why we don’t to make it real. To be in relationship.”

“Luke, don’t talk about that one-night-stand. Let’s forget about it.”

“As you wish.”

After the long travel, the came in the province where Nadia’s mother live. It’s stupid around. There is a lot of beggar every side of the hallway, asking for foods and money. Luke give them a two-dollars. And since I bring with me my foods, I give it to them. Since there is also a street chill roaming around. They have to walk in the hallway since the car can’t get in because there is no way. And then, they come in an old house. Where the house of Nadia’s ancestor. Her mother can’t live this house since it is their inheritance and there is a lot of property and business that need of attention.

The house is full of silence. Only her mother who is in the rocking chair, facing at the window. Nadia, give her hug to her mother and kiss on the chick. “Mom.”

“Nadia, why you don’t tell me that you will come? So I can prepare foods for you…Oh, is that Luke? How tall you are. Sorry, I wasn’t able to recognize you since you change a lot.”

“Its okay.” He smiled.

“C’mon.” they went in the kitchen. “I will cook foods for you. I know you are both hungry.” Her mother, prepare everything that is needed for cooking. They sat down on the chair, and watching her mom.

“Mom, I want to find a sitter to be with you in this house. Who can help working the chores and cleaning the house. And you were not alone as well.”

“No need. Your nephew, Bella is with me right now. But this time, she went to her classmates making their project.”

“Ah…Good.” She stood up and help her mom. Luke as well, but he walk around the house and see each of the painting around the house and furniture that made by mahogany and narra.

“Is Luke is your boyfriend?” her mother whispered.

“No. We’re just friend. Actually, there is someone I have waiting for.” She smiled.

“Why not Luke? I like him to be your boyfriend. Since I know already him.”

“No, Mom. It will not happen. I already have someone. His name is Kurt. But this time I’m on a process to be his girlfriend.”

“Who is that Kurt?”

“A handsome guy, like Luke. He is a prosecutor. Actually, he save thousands of innocents. And I saluted him.”

“As in? May I know him?”

“Not this time. Actually, Mom. Kylie was on the jail.”

“What?” her mother get surprised. And stop what she’s doing.

“She was accuse by the crime that she didn’t made. But I don’t if it is real or not. I can’t tell it, Mom.”

“Gosh, how pity she is.” She continue slicing the potatoes.

“What did you cook, Mom?”

“Your favorite, lasagna. Just stay, and I’m going to cook it for you. Since I already miss cooking lasagna.”

“Mom, I want you to come with me.”

“No, this time.”

“Mom, let’s handle it to Bella. I know she can handle it.”

“Nadia, you have something to know about me.” they both stop and they are separated by silence.

“What?” she’s getting curious.

“I have my illness. A leukemia, and I’m going to die.”

“Mom, don’t tell me like that. You don’t have Leukemia. You forget already, your daughter is a doctor, a professor. I can cure you.”

“No need, since I’m old already.” Her mother smile and shed her tears.

“No. I’m going to bring in the city and cure you there.”

“You’re too old enough to stay by your own feet. You don’t need me already. You can do what you want without me, Nadia.”

“Mom, kindly stop discussing it. Let’s focus on cooking, I’m hungry.” They both laughed.

After they take a lunch, Nadia and Luke went to the balcony to have some refreshments. Luke lay on the rocking chair and rock it repeatedly. Then, Nadia stood up, crossing her arms and watch how the clouds float and bird fly. Silence was made them apart.

“What happened to you? Is there something wrong?”

“Yes, and about my mom. Soon she will going to die because of her Leukemia. And I don’t want it to happen. I’m going to bring her in the city to cure her, whether she want or not and my decisions will be follow.”

“A Leukemia. A serious disease. We need to hang up, and bring her in the hospital to cure before it’s too late.”

Nadia shed her tears. “I already know about my mom. But she didn’t know about me, that I bring with me my illness and getting sick often times. What if the time happen, we both suffer pain?”

“We need to focus on you mom. I can handle her with me. And focus on examining your illness. In the city, I’m going to bring her in the hospital, so you will not worry about her anymore.”

“Thank you, Luke. You are good to me, but sorry my mind will not change. Only Kurt I need.”

“It’s okay for me that will choose Kurt over me. I’m going to focus your mother condition, either.”

“Thank you.”

“Your welcome.”

They fix themselves to leave. Nadia, pack the things for her mom. Though, her mom don’t want to go with me, but Nadia force her, for her good sake. Bella, was told by Nadia to take care everything in the house. Nadia will send money for Bella’s need.

One week later, Luke take care of her mom. Since she is busy to visit her, she just message them or call. Nadia is on her way to the office. Since she is outside she walk fast because it’s hot outside and dust. Carrie surprised her.

“Hello, Nadia. How’s your day?” Carrie walk closer to Nadia while irritatedly smile.

“Carrie, I’m not in a good condition right now. I’m sick so please leave me alone.”

“You’re sick? Gosh, how poor. Where is Kurt?”

“Kurt? Sorry, I didn’t know where he is, why?”

“I text and or even contact her but he didn’t answer. I went to his office but he is not there. I’m worry about him.”

“What do you mean?”

“Kurt is out of nowhere and I can’t find him.”

“What?” Nadia get shocked.

“Or maybe, you hide him so I can’t find him, right?”

“No, even me don’t know where he is going. Please, don’t blame me.”

“If I found out that you hide him, you will regret it.” Carrie leave Nadia, and rolled her eyes.

Nadia walk fast to her office. She need to call and contact Kurt. She get worry right now, and get panic maybe something bad happened to him. She throw her sling bag on the table, get her phone and dial Kurt’s number.

“Hello?” Kurt answered weakly.

“Where are you?” she get mad.

“I’m here in the bar, spending my time and drunk myself. I hate my life. I don’t have purpose here anymore. I want to die.”

“Kurt, stop it. Where bar you are?”

“In SHAPING BAR. Why? I thought, you hate me. And you don’t want to see me anymore.”

“Stay there, I’m coming there.”

She hang up the call. And drive her car to the SHAPING BAR, where Kurt drunk himself. She drove fast, because she get panic this time. She think, if Kurt was in danger. She found out Kurt, who is inside the bar who get drunk. She get it and bring him inside in her car. “You need to go home.” Nadia irritated.

“No, I don’t want to go home.”

“Whether you like it or not. I’m going to bring you home.” She drove fast to Kurt’s house. She know where his house located, since she visited here last time.

She guide, Kurt getting inside since he can’t walk seriously. He drank too much and can’t control himself. She bumped Kurt on the couch. “Stay here, I’m leaving.”

Kurt hold her left hand tightly when she’s trying to leave. “Stay here, I don’t want to be alone. I want you to be here just this night.” He started shedding his tears. He looks like a baby who is crying in front of his mother.

“No, I have something to do.”

“Please, stay here. I can’t take myself alone. I want you stay with me and take care with me. Just this time, I need your concern.”

Nadia feel pity on him. She forgive Kurt, so she will going stay with Kurt just this night. “Okay, I’m going to stay. Just-this-night. Okay?”

“Okay.”

She guide Kurt to his room. There she helps to change Kurt clothes, since it’s getting wet by his sweats. And he smell disgusting on the wine he drink. He pour some wine on his dress. Kurt moaned. She’s worry as what happened to Kurt this time. Just his forehead to know if he was sick. Yes, he is sick. Nadia get some water and towel in the bathroom and put it on Kurt forehead. Then she continue dress Kurt.

“How I can leave Kurt if he is being like this. I’m worry about his condition. I don’t want to leave him. I don’t want to let him suffer fever. He need me.” she thought.

She realize that she is wrong. And she always think that someone’s need her. Then she found that someone need for help is Kurt. She regret everything what she have done to him. She want to say sorry regarding on her mistake. She promise to herself that tomorrow, she will confess everything.

Nadia woke up by the alarm that rung under the table, beside on her heads. She yawn, and stretched her body and arms. The light of the sun shine on her face, and her shadow reflect on the wall. It’s seven o’clock in the morning. She found that Kurt is not anymore on the bed where he sleep last night. She walk downstairs and found out Kurt who is preparing foods for them. She remember on how Luke did the same, after the one-night stand.

Nadia walk closer on the table. “Good morning.” Kurt smiled at her.

“Did you cook it?”

“Yes.”

“Good. Hmm…smelly. I feel hungry.”

“You can eat now.”

Nadia, serve foods on her plate as well as Kurt. Nadia, choose the crabs and shrimps then rice. It’s been a long time she didn’t eat sea-foods. Since no one will cook for her.

“Actually, it’s my second time eating this sea foods. Where did you buy it?”

“I bought it in the market, earlier.”

“As in? Actually, this is my favorite.”

“Yeah, I know.”

“What? How did you know?” she getting curious.

“I read it on your diary last time that I found under your table. You forgot to hide it. Sorry, I forgot to asked permission.”

“Did you read it?”

“No, I only read is your favorite. That’s it.”

“Are you feel okay, right now? Actually, you are sick last night. Fortunately, I found medicine on your table.”

“Thank you for your concern. That’s what I need.”

They keep in silence. Kurt look at her seriously. And Nadia feel ashamed on him. “Actually, Kurt this time I won’t let this end being like this. I want you to know that, I want to marry you.”

Kurt get surprised of what she’s talking about. His heart beats so fast like he can’t breathe. “Is that true? Or maybe you are just joking.”

“No, I’m not. It’s for real.”

“Gosh.” He run toward Nadia, and hug her and kiss her tightly. He can’t imagine that Nadia will surprised him. “I want to marry you as well.” He smiled like it was his first time. They hugged together and kiss together. Carrie can’t fight back anymore, because they will get marry soon. She can’t do anything but to watch them inside the church wearing a wedding dress.
