HE IS JUST BUSY
Capri's POV:
I didn't even realize I had been dozing until a customer slammed her fist had into the counter. It jolted me awake like thunder . Shame made my cheeks flush red. I couldn't even look up at the person before me.
“Table three , we want two lattes." He was so annoyed that his voice radiated heat that could brew coffee for the Cafe for years.
I nodded and quickly set to prepare his order. All this was stressful, very , very stressful but I needed money for the bills and for upkeep so working my ass off was the only option now.
“Ditch that show and get enough sleep tonight." Nia, my coworker and new bestie advised as she entered through the back door. She was concerned about me and I was grateful but I had somewhere very important to be. She had been studying me for hours, I could tell because this was the fourth time she was telling me to get some rest tonight.
It's not as if I wasn't going to get any sleep, just that I had to spend half of it at the somewhere special. I couldn't miss tonight's own, else Hark would definitely lose it.
“ I wish I could. Honestly. But this is the last chance that I've been giving to make it up to him. You know I've not been going to his shows for the past two months." I tried to convince Nia, and I knew she was listening even though she was looking elsewhere.
Nia hated the idea of me going out tonight and leaving her in the apartment alone, more importantly she hated seeing me stressed and worn out.
“ You're his girlfriend, not some mere chattel!" She hissed back and attended to the customer who just walked in making me lose my chance to hit her with a defensive comeback line.
By noon, the Cafe was quite empty, just two couples being all over each other in the back but that didn't matter because such sights were so normal here.
Nia was reading a book and I sat there trying to get enough rest before the event but to my surprise,
I wasn't feeling sleepy one bit which was rather disappointing as I thought it could make up for the sleep I was going to lose tonight while attending my boyfriend's concert outside the city.
“ Oh Goshhh!!!" I yelled and spinned around in the chair. I was overstimulated. “ Do you think I should change my outfit? Hark likes seeing me in hot, cute stuff."
“ You don't even like stuff like that." Nia smirked as if trying to tell me that dating Hark was the worst decision of my life.
She had never been in support of our relationship in the first place so it was not new to me.
I just needed her opinion of what to wear since I wasn't into hot stuff but she was.
“Please, please Nia. I want to impress him, tonight is a very special night for us—" before I could even finish Nia cut me short.
“ For him. For him, not for you. Capri, he doesn't even play his role well. Why are you trying to impress him so much when he doesn't even put in the same effort to impress you? I'm sick and tired of this one sided s**t you call a relationship!"
I bet if it were any two other friends having this conversation it would have turned into a very big chaotic scene by now. But I was used to Nia's nagging. We hadn't known each for long, but eight months were enough for anyone to decide that someone was his or her best friend.
She was my best friend, caring, sweet and kind and it made sense that she just wanted the best for me and found Hark as a bum but honestly, I knew my boyfriend best.
That is why I chose him over every other guy in Hilton Vogue, our city. He was not very mean and unkind like Nia made it seem. He just was nonchalant and busy with his career as an artiste.
