Mate?
I growled satisfactorily as I slid the knife into the last scout standing.
Several bodies sprawled on the floor of the entrance through the boundaries that would lead us into the external provinces of the pack.
I could feel Herlux, my wolf, jumping excitedly inside of me. He loved the sight of victory—the smell of blood.
We had just three stations to conquer. These three stations were ruled by a very powerful Alpha who would stop at nothing to protect his province, but I didn't care about all it would take to get them all to submit to me.
Felix, my right-hand man and Omega walked up to me, panting.
“What is it?”
“I don't think going over there would be a good idea, my lord, especially since your father isn't aware.”
I growled again.
“Nonsense!” I spat angrily.
“They’d have no choice than to submit to us.
I will not have anyone stand as an opposition to this new movement. That was my father's weakness, leaving people like them independent of the pack.”
Lucious, one of my most powerful men and head of the warriors of the east wing of the Kuva pack, came before me and prostrated,
“All you need to do is say the word”
I still felt the urge to use my sword strongly, so I took him by the shoulder and put it close to his neck.
“We don't hurt fellow swordsmen, but what's this I can sense within you? Betrayal? Treason? Lucious?”
He dropped his sword and bowed with his head touching the floor.
“I wouldn't do that to my Alpha. I dare not”
It totally pissed me off that he still had the guts to lie to me, so I flung my sword and removed the tip of one of his fingers.
It was such a precise cut because I had mastered the art of using my sword. I literally practiced my whole life.
“Lucious, I'm sure you know what lying could cost you?. "Do you think I'm dumb?!” I growled at him, earning total silence from the men around.
I felt so disappointed in him.
“I am sorry, my lord” he added, totally ignoring the blood gushing out from his second finger I had just sliced.
I raised a hand and some other men came and dragged him away from the field.
It was easy to detect when someone lied to me because my wolf had that ability. This, coupled with my strong intuition skills made it very hard for people to sideline me.
A little introduction would do.
My name is Alpha Damien.
I'm the protector and guardian of the Kuva pack—the most powerful and greatly feared.
Our pack consists of about twenty provinces in which there are several stations governed by elders, and it is one of the most populated and most powerful packs in the entire Mid Venelia.
When I was ten, I experienced the first division of our pack when some elders of some provinces rose up against my father—the Alpha-to claim that he was changing some laws to favor just himself and his family.
My father, being concerned about his family's safety, tried sending us to the south region to go stay with his sister and be safe.
I could remember that gruesome night, where they wouldn't let us leave, and how it led to a battle that cost my mother's life.
My father was captured, ridiculed and imprisoned by the same people he ruled over—for over ten years, all because he refused to make a decision to eliminate them all when he sensed their mischief.
He kept saying some rubbish about not eliminating those you rule over.
While my father was held captive, I was taken home by his friend and the Beta, Stesin, who was not in support of his cowardice and wanted to avenge my mother's death.
I stood under the care of Stesin, who taught me all there was to being the most powerful Alpha, so I spent most of my life training with swords, daggers and thorny batons. There was literally no kind of weapon I could use.
When I turned twenty, I was able to recruit some men, launch an attack on my father's enemies and set him free.
I was also able to claim back all lost lands and territories and had them surrender to us. This in turn earned me the trust of my people and I assumed the office of the Alpha, as it should have been.
There was a new development.
News came that some other rebel provinces outside the pack were forming an army alliance where they would try to overthrow us and take over authority, which was quite ridiculous considering how powerful we were—how powerful their Alpha was.
The last time this happened, my father showed them mercy, and they didn't just almost ruin the entire Kuva pack, they also killed my mother.
Now I was going to take the task of stopping them. They'd either have to bow or die!
I turned to Felix, and he immediately extended new armor to me.
I took off my old armor and put on the new one, then I snapped my fingers twice and the men followed after me immediately.
When we were so close to the headquarters of the three provinces, exactly where the said Alpha was based with his family and probably his supporters, my wolf suddenly started jumping excitedly.
I rolled my eyes as I walked.
“Would you ever get tired at the thought of blood, Herlux?”
I felt him smirk and I sighed inwardly.
We walked like spies through the gates and doors, with my men silently getting rid of everyone who seemed to be an obstacle or who wanted to raise an alarm pertaining to what was happening.
I particularly went to the panel room where I suspected the said ‘Alpha’ would be with his subordinates, but immediately I got there, kicked the door open and walked in. I saw no one.
I was surprised and taken aback because, with information reaching us, they were going to hold a meeting that same day, and we made sure we didn't leak out information about our proposed attack.
How did they get to know and hide themselves?
“Lucious” I said through my gritted teeth as I realized he could have been the one. I was going to deal with him later.
It suddenly occurred to me that if they were really in hiding, there wouldn't have been any guards or people casually going about their activities.
They, too, would have been hiding.
I tried looking around and for a moment I felt confused.
Following my instincts, I walked up to the throne and sat down casually, then blared a horn I saw lying beside it.
Felix rushed in first, then other men followed, thinking something must have happened.
“I think we have been deceived. There's literally no one here. It seems as though this isn't even the real place.”
I sighed and rubbed my temples as my eyes landed on a map-like scroll on the table.
How did I not think of it?
“This is the real place”, Felix frowned, his brows arched in confusion.
I stood up and walked to the back of the throne and right in front of me was a bronze door which had a pattern written in an ancient language. I let Herlux pop his eyes through mine and my eyes glowed in a bright blue color.
Once he read it and I was able to solve the puzzle, the door opened.
How pathetic of him to go into hiding with his family and others could die for all he cared.
My men delightedly went in and in a few minutes, they were out with three women, and a man dressed in rich regalia.
I looked at them without saying a word, and in one s***h of my sword, I took one of the ladies down while the other two both screamed and whimpered in fright.
I wanted this Alpha to watch me finish off his family.
His face looked Stoic and unbothered as I went to the second woman who would pass for his wife and raised her chin up to face me.
She looked at me with pleading eyes, but that did nothing to my sense of being as I immediately used my sword on her.
The third lady only whimpered, but never screamed and tears kept flowing through her eyes.
I observed her burnt red hair, which almost touched the floor, and smirked. It was going to be such a waste.
Suddenly, he spoke because I raised my sword against her.
“Don’t you dare raise a finger at her!”
I turned to him, amused that he was actually speaking for the first time.
“I see. "What's so special about this one that wasn't so special about your wife and the other lady?...” I said as I twirled my sword around her long, wavy red hair.
“And what gives you the right to speak when I haven't asked you to?” In one swing, I pointed the sword right at him.
“You son of a bastard!! "Don't think you will ever get away with this!!” he exclaimed, eyes as hard as a rock.
I smirked, grabbed her by the neck and pulled her up, but immediately our skin came in contact, heat surged through me like a volcanic eruption.
Herlux literally started jerking inside of me and my greatest fear was confirmed immediately.
Mate.
