“Don’t cry, I won’t hurt you if you stay quiet, it’ll be over soon” she heard his voice whisper in her ear making her face scrunch up in disgust as chills ran down her spine as she desperately tried to move away from him
“You can’t leave yet!” he whisper-yelled at her aggressively “You know how it is, don’t make this harder than it should be” he said, moving in closer to her, pinning her back completely to the wall as they stood in the corner of her bedroom with faint chattering sounds in the background from across the corridor in the living room
“We need to be done before someone comes looking for us” he said with a wide anticipating grin painted across his wrinkled face
“I-I don’t think this is right, let’s p-please go back out, I-I-” she cried out desperately between sobs but was cut off when a strong elbow swung against her abdomen with another palm flying over and grasping her mouth shut as she gasped at the impact and tears continued to stream down her face
“I told you nicely, didn’t I? Don’t pretend like you don’t enjoy this!” he muttered from between his teeth as he clenched his jaw. He leaned over and rubbed his unkept beard against her face as he whispered in her ear “This is why I say you don’t deserve good things, you want to be treated like the w***e you are, you enjoy when I’m rough, don’t you? You sick wrench!” he said menacingly before moving his hand away from striking her stomach to crawl up behind her neck and into her hair as he held onto it roughly and pulled her head back.
His hand over her mouth muffled her screams as he used his time to cause havoc to her body until she was too tired to protest anymore for the day and let him make it through his routine of breaking through her soul as she stood being able to do nothing.
“Mother - 1 missed call”
Ken couldn’t read Jane’s face but knew it hadn’t made her happy- “Babe? Are you okay? Did you miss an important call?” he questioned, squatting down next to her
“Quite the opposite actually” Jane muttered under her breath
Ken allowed himself to spare a glance at her lock screen right before she turned it off and saw that it was her mother who’d called, confused he stopped himself from asking why she didn’t just answer the call and instead asked “Is everything okay?’
“Yea-” just ask jane started to answer, her ringtone cut her off, and both their gazes moved onto her flashing phone screen that once again read ‘Mother’
“Aren’t you going to answer that?’ Ken making Jane snap out of her trance as she stared at her screen “I’ll be back in a second” Jane said as she stood up with her purse clutched in one hand and her phone in another. She dragged her thumb across the screen to answer the call as she rushed into the forest so she was away from Ken’s hearing
“Jane! Honey, we’ve been so worried!-” Jane heard her mother’s voice on the other side as soon as she pressed the phone against her ear
“I’m fine” she answered blandly “Is there anything, in particular, you need from me, mother?” she continued bitterly
“W-We had gotten a call from your college and they told us something about a murder and all this stuff about you being a part of police investigations and we’ve been trying to get you to answer-” Jane cut her off once again
“You guys care, yeah right!. Are you sure this isn’t just another of your pathetic attempts at making yourself feel a little less guilty?” She asked, her voice growing louder and louder as her breath got ragged
Just then Jane heard some rustling and crackling of leaves, making her snap her head towards the source of the sound as Ken emerged from behind a bunch of trees that she had nonchalantly walked through as she spoke “Hey, you okay? You came a long way” Ken said in a light-hearted tone, in hopes that she wouldn’t be upset that he followed her.
She had quite a different reaction from what he guessed as she held his gaze for a second and her eyes started to tear up and she burst into a series of sobs, moving her phone from her ear and hanging up against her mother’s protests
Ken rushed towards Jane and wrapped his arms around her shaking body “J-Jane, baby, you’re okay, it’s fine, breathe” he whispered as he rubbed her back gently
Jane continued to sob and failed at trying to form words so she could answer Ken “I- S-She-” she tried hopelessly as Ken comforted her “It’s alright, just focus on your breathing alright? I’m going to be right here”
Jane hiccuped as her body refused to co-ordinate with her mind, she tried in vain to catch her breath but every attempt fell weak as her sobs made it hard for her to breathe and she couldn’t collect her thoughts as her mind ran wild
Ken moved away from Jane and held her face between his palms and made her look up at him as he leaned over and kissed her forehead muttering soothing nothings against her skin and stayed that way until she started sober up and her breathing got more regular.
“You did well” Ken said, his eyes glistening with concern as he pulled away from Jane and gave her a once over to make sure she wasn’t hurt anywhere
“T-Thank you” Jane mumbled, her face flushed pink from crying but also from embarrassment “and sorry for ruining the date”
“You haven’t ruined anything, beautiful” Ken said gently with a small smile “Do you want to talk about it? Or would you like me to take you home so you can rest?”
“I-It’s nothing really” Jane started nervously, looking down at her hands, fidgeting.
Ken carefully extended his hand out to hers and grasped her fingers, intertwining them with his making Jane look up at him as he encouraged her to go on with a nod, his face intent as he listened to her.
Jane let the silence guide her thoughts for a moment and started “My parents are good people, they just were never mentally present with us, or cared about what we did” pausing, she looked up at Ken as he nodded again slowly, this time in acknowledgment.
“W-We had to go through a lot on our own” Jane said, loud enough only for Ken to hear, he comfortingly rubbed his thumb across her wrist “That must have been hard”
“It was very overwhelming” she confirmed “We dreaded every holiday that would have family over because we knew he would be there and we’d have to go through-” she paused as she shut her eyes close and tears started to stream down her face
Ken hoped he was wrong but he understood what she was talking about, rage riled up inside his chest as he protectively held Jane against him “It’s okay princess, no one will hurt you now” he said in a decisive, comfortingly low voice
