-In another class-
“Ms. Willis...” The other cop, in another classroom called out to Jane who also seemed to be in a whole other world.
Jane snapped her head up when she heard the Cop call out, sounding frustrated.
“I-I’m so sorry” Jane said as she rubbed her clammy hands together, her mind kept wandering off as she tried her best to divert her attention to anything other than the fact that she was alone in the room with a police officer. It was infuriating.
Jane cleared her throat and looked at the ground as she nodded to confirm what the cop was reading out from notes about her activity that the Principle had given him.
He reached up to his face and brushed down his beard, making Jane flinch and crawl away thinking he might strike a blow at her.
The cop noticed this and asked Jane to be at ease and said that he or anyone else from the facility would not hurt her.
Jane barely nodded again and the cop sighed as he continued to read out “-So Ms.Jane Willis, we happened to find out that you’ve had some family problems before in which the Police had to be involved...I think you are familiar with what I am talking about-” The cop continued to speak but Jane had once again zoned out.
She was staring at the ground and it started turning into a dark spot and as she soon as she moved her vision a little away and looked at another spot, that too would turn black, slowly, the room started growing darker and she unwillingly started hearing whispers in her head.
Her breathing started to quicken and she wanted to clench her eyes shut but couldn’t bring herself to, she was seeing things...she could not bare to look away from. Her clothes started to seem tighter and she felt hot as she sweat profusely.
-”MS WILLIS! JANE!” The cop was now next to Jane, shaking her arm, which made her bursts out crying as her eyes cleared away and she looked at the officer
“What happened? Are you alright dear?” The cop asked whilst reaching down to grab her a water bottle.
Jane didn’t say anything, she wasn’t sure what to say. She took a moment to collect herself and replied with “I’m okay, I’m fine”
The cop finally sat down, taking his seat opposite Jane in the windy classroom.
“Do you feel fine? Do you mind continuing?” The officer asked as a confirmation to which Jane nodded.
The cop then continued and said “-You have a clear, no criminal activities record” starting off positively so he doesn’t trigger her
“Your family lives in another city and you came over here to study after the accident and currently live alone ” he read out at last as he looked up to see Jane nodding slightly
“We don’t have much to hold you for” The cop said soothingly “Though I would want to know more about the morning that you arrived at college late”
“...I already said it, I was helping my neighbour lift some boxes, she’s an old lady and needed my help” Jane explained softly as she looked at the ground and bit her lip.
“You don’t sound too convinced of it yourself Ms. Willis..” The officer noted as Jane’s eyes widened for a moment and shook her head
“I’m not lying!" she exclaimed looking up at the officer and immediately looking away after making momentary eye contact “I just don’t do well with-” she said and looked between them “this, confrontational stuff”
The cop nodded “Not a first, but you will have to co-operate until we find the culprit, we’re only doing our job”
“I know, Officer”
“Out of curiosity, did you happen to know about Ms. Smith heart disease?” the cop questioned, looking intently at Jane
“Yes” Jane replied, sounding confused
The cop wrote something down and nodded “Seems like she didn’t try to hide it from anyone...including the girl whose boyfriend she slept with” he stated and looked at Jane, waiting for her reaction but didn’t get one.
“Everyone knew about it, she had an attack in one of the classes last year so everyone found out, if she hadn’t already told them” Jane explained
The cop nodded and asked “Did you happen to know Ms. Breonna Jain before the incident happened?”
Jane was caught off-guard by the question and stuttered a she said “H-Huh? Ye- I mean no. Sorry, I mean no.” She said decidedly
“You don’t seem very sure of anything you say Ms Willis” The cop commented making Jane’s face drop as her face turned pink from embarrassment.
When Jane didn’t say anything, the officer continued and said “That’s surprising seeing how she is friends with your uh...new boyfriend, hadn’t he introduced you before?” he inquired
“We know each other only for a few days now...I don’t know any of his friends” Jane said sounding ridiculed that he would even ask .
“I see, you seemed to have gotten over your ex pretty quickly to be onto your boyfriend”
“I don’t understand how this is relevant with the investigation, officer” Jane snapped but immediately gulped as she cowered back
The officer stayed quiet for a second and replied saying “I am only doing my job Ms. Willis”
“I didn’t see why I should have to cry over a cheating asshole, he had done it before and I had enough” Jane said answering his question from before
“Ah...I see” The officer replied as he seemed to be organising his thoughts.
“You are in the clear for now Ms.Willis, anyhow I will have to look into some things and then speak with you again if I have to” The cop announced as he leaned back and crossed his leg over the other
Jane breathed a sigh of relief and stood up, pushing back her chair and turning to leave.
As she started to leave she heard the cop’s phone ring, making her jump
“-Oh alright, I just did the first one too, these rich brats seem to be harder than we thought, yea-” Jane heard the cop speak into his phone as she left the room, feeling a huge burden being lifted from her shoulders. She could finally have some peace now.
And she would...for sometime.
She had always known that her life was meant to be chaotic, sure it gets pretty much sometimes but it nothing Jane couldn’t take on. She had already had the worst, what would possibly top that?
As Jane walked out , Ken ran up to her and looked at her questioningly.
“It was fine, I’m clear ” Jane said with a smile and watched as Ken’s frown faded away and was replaced with relief
“I’m glad it’s finally over-” Ken started to say but Jane cut him off as she said “I don’t know if it’s really over...they still haven’t found the culprit so maybe I will be called in again for something”
Ken looked uneasy as he looked around and saw Ben walking towards the officer who walked out of the classroom where Brie was inquired.
He started to stride towards them and bumped into Ben and whispered in his ear “Do us all a favour and admit it you f*****g dimwit”
